Me at the beach
Kristy A.

The scenery is beautiful, with this beach being nestled in between to hills/mountains. There are vendors who will rent umbrellas for $10/ day. Very reasonable. The beach wasn't too crowded when we went. Biggest drawback is that the sand is mostly rocks like what would find at the bottom of a fish tank. They hurt to stand on and make wading in the water less than desirable, bringing new meaning to the phrase "crack rock". The water was cold in the end of July, but refreshing after sitting in the sun. Just have to give your body time to adjust. Overall, still makes for a nice day on the beach.

Full disclosure: I did not come here during the day. I came here on my last night in Los Cabos. It was close to sunset and, not wanting to miss a sunset on the beach, this was the best we could do because we were in the area. That said, imagine my surprise when we were dropped off in a clean, modern parking lot with a nice bathroom and outdoor shower area. There's a paved walkway leading down to the beach - about a 5-7 minute walk - and several palapas along with a booth that rents stuff (what stuff I don't know because we got there too late). There are buoys to indicate the safe areas to swim, a lifeguard's chair (not sure if it is staffed during the day), and there is a very nice resort to the right. Also, the sand is coarse - if you close your eyes and pick up a handful, it feels like that old 80s candy, Nerds! When we got there on Monday around 6:15 there were only two other couples on the beach. The sun was setting and the stars were coming out. Even though we were late, it was totally worth it. Took out a towel, laid back, and pondered the meaning of life as it got darker and darker. (The answer I came up with? 42.) I also loved the vibe of the resort next door and the entire beach area. It seemed so tranquil and serene. After not gaining access to a different local beach (!*+%!! exclusive resorts) our driver recommended Santa María - and this is honestly where we should have gone to begin with. I miss Cabo already - not for its rude drunk Texans who swear by Señor Frog's, screaming college kids, and entitled bridezillas and bridesmaids, but for its stunning natural beauty. There was no sound but the waves and some chill music drifting over from the resort (not loud or obnoxious). Everyone on the beach was quiet and respectful. Although I don't recommend it (especially if you don't speak enough Spanish to get by), we stayed until the sky was dark and blanketed with stars, and took the walk back to the parking lot to catch an Uber in the dark (using our phone flashlights). Along the way, we saw a group approaching with flashlights. We said, "Buenas" and "Hola" and they replied in kind - local guys with large fishing poles and headlamps who were trying their luck around 7:30 pm. Can't wait to come back again - Santa María will definitely be at the top of my list for a visit.

Look at the water....just like Hawai'i #beautiful

Playa Santa Maria is a beautifully owned must see government beach. Along highway 1 at kilometer 12. Bahía Santa María is located next to the former exclusive Hotel Twin Dolphin. Look for the beach access sign and follow the winding dirt road to the parking area. The parking area has 24 hour security cameras. Once you've settled your belongings, It's a short walk to this beautiful protected cove. There were so many locals and tourists enjoying the sunny beach. The sand is not like the sand of Hawaii's beaches. A little tougher yet walkable. The view is amazingly beautiful. This is a calmer water beachfront. Not for surfers looking to catch waves. We enjoyed dropping by and taking in the scenic view.

Great beach, beautiful water. The facilities are new or near new. The restrooms are nice and clean. There are showers outside next to the restrooms. Just so you know, the bathrooms are at the parking lot which is a 5 minute walk from the entrance to the beach. The beach has calm enough waters to swim and snorkel. The best area to do so is on the far right side of the beach. Its quite a long walk in sand that really hurt all of our feet. There are lots of fish along the rock walls. Nothing exciting but there were fish. There are only a few shade huts, so come early or bring you own. Overall, a clean and safe beach for an afternoon.

Calm clear water at the far end

We spent 3 out of our 5 days in Cabo hanging out at this beach. It's a beautiful little cove with crystal clear water and great snorkeling. All the guidebooks said Chileno Bay (also nearby) was better but we much preferred this beach. Yes there are boats coming in and out loaded with boozy tourists, but regardless, we loved it. We took our two little kids down to the end farthest away from the parking lot and they loved the calm water and snorkeling. There are tons of fish! On our last morning we arrived just in time to see some whales go by, off in the distance. There are peddlers there who may be able to rent you a snorkel or a beach umbrella (or sell you any number of things ranging from hats and sarongs to big ceramic platters) but other than that the beach doesn't have food, restrooms, or anything else--so plan to bring your own gear and snacks and just chill. If you're driving west from San Jose del Cabo toward Cabo San Lucas, there are no signs on the highway to direct you to this beach. We missed it the first time we tried to get there and had to turn around. If you're driving from Cabo San Lucas toward San Jose del Cabo, you're in luck--there is a massive exit sign on the highway pointing you Playa Santa Maria. And then you can drive on a dirt road down to a parking lot right next to the beach. Easy!

Local beach very cool. No tourists here! This is the place to go. Definitely need a car to get here! You can take a Taxi too. $$$$

Found this beach during our stay in Cabo. Actually went there two of our five days. Clean, safe no venders, you can rent an umbrella, water was clear and there were lots of fish to look at. Nice mix of locals and others (like us). Took a cooler with drinks and food and turned out to be a very relaxing time! Would recommend for quite escape.

View overlooking the beach from our yacht.

Vacationing in Cabo and we landed up signing up for a snorkeling activity which brought us here. The beach was amazing! White sand and tropical fish swimming close to shore. Make sure to bring some tortillas and feed them, they'll gather around you and give you great opportunities to take pictures! -Yes the fish here love tortillas lol If you have water shoes I recommend you bring them here because the sand isn't really sand but instead little pieces of rocks that hurt your feet. Overall, Small little beach with amazing views and fish. You can't go wrong. Definitely want to come back!

My favorite in cabo.we had a car rental and it was about 30 minute drive from downtown cabo, public beach with parking, clean restrooms, free cabanas but very few so go early if you are looking to get one. We stopped at Walmart before to get snacks (the only big store in the area)This was the only beach we could swim in. There are no vendors so bring your own drinks and snacks. We took our 2 year old and he loved it. We got lucky and found a cabana at about 1:00pm. There is construction to a hotel , you walk a few steps "easy walkway", cement walkway..We went back for a second time it was so peaceful. Great for swimming and snorkeling.

When I thought about beautiful beaches and Cabo and peaceful places to just hang out and chill and enjoy the water, Playa Santa Maria satisfied all those requirements and I can't wait to go back to this place. When you get there, it seems like almost like a resort or if you experience going to a really nice golf resort in the United States. During the weekday we were here and there was plenty of parking and we bought mangoes in the parking lot, which were really good. He did a excellent job cutting and prepping it out for us. You take the walk back and then you see the ocean and the beach and I was just in awe of how beautiful it was. This is pretty close to paradise. It was a big contrast from the Bajia Beach House we were at for the past couple of days where there are a lot of tourists, loud music, vendors, and just noise in general. This place is so serene and quiet and calm and yes, it is connected to a resort, but it was not overcrowded, no loud music, you could see a lot of the locals were here, and the beach area to swim was very large and vast. If I lived in Cabo, I would probably come here every weekend. The only downer was the sand consisted of very small pebbles so if your feet are sensitive, then I highly suggest water shoes or sandals - which I'm so glad I brought. I am so glad I got to experience this place, thanks to our local friend and temporary tour guide. If you're in Cabo looking for some nice peace and relaxation and a beautiful scene, you definitely need to come here.

It's best visited early or later in the day - before tourista boats arrive or after they depart. Easy to find this beach off the highway, just stay away when I'm in town - please?! Just kidding... Sizeable parking lot, restrooms and a policia presence - I appreciate the effort made to keep cars from being broken into. There are a few vendors on the beach offering the typical items (I bought a few blankets off one guy) and "renting" beach umbrellas - a must if you stay all day! My first visit a few years ago was delightful - prior to the completion of the Montage. It's still nice, but the arrival of the Montage has placed more people on/overlooking the beach (it's not as quaint as it once was...) Nonetheless, SM Beach is awesome! 5 stars

There are places in the world you should see... and then there are places you have to experience…read more One of those is Lover's Beach. Tucked right beside the famous El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, this little stretch of sand sits where the Pacific Ocean shakes hands with the Gulf of California. Boats can't always nose right up to shore, so sometimes they anchor out and well congratulations, you're swimming the rest of the way. Not exactly the plan when you're holding a drink and thinking about tacos. But there I was, staring at that water thinking, alright... here we go. First step in refreshing. Second step whoa, that's colder than advertised. But once you're in, you're in, and suddenly the whole thing turns into the kind of travel story you remember forever. And that's Cabo in a nutshell. Music drifting through the air, drinks flowing, tacos somewhere nearby, somebody laughing so hard the whole beach joins in. My wife was cracking up, people were singing, and the day just kept rolling like a perfect Baja postcard. Lovers Beach itself is only reachable by boat, which somehow makes it feel like a little secret tucked against those golden rock formations. You look around and think, yeah... this is the good stuff. So if you make it to Cabo, don't just look at it from the boat jump in, swim if you have to, and make the memory. Trust me... that's the story you'll still be telling later.

A Love Letter (with a Side of "No Gracias") to Cabo's Beach Vendors…read moreLook, I get it Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas is paradise, the sun is blazing, the margaritas are calling, and you're just trying to make a living in one of the most competitive tourist spots on Earth. But holy guacamole, the vendor parade feels like a non-stop flash mob sometimes! One minute you're finally zoning out with your spouse, pretending the real world doesn't exist, and the next, a cheerful guy with a tower of hats is standing over your towel like, "Amigo, you need this sombrero it's magic!" Spoiler: It's not magic; it's just very persistent. I've said "no gracias" so many times I started feeling like a broken record, and each polite rejection somehow makes me the bad guy who just crushed someone's dreams. It's exhausting, and it turns what should be pure relaxation into a game of vendor dodgeball. That said, here's the constructive part from someone who genuinely wants to support local folks (and might even splurge if the vibe is right): Let the beautiful handmade jewelry, the colorful sarongs, or those killer tamales do the talking! Imagine a chill setup like Hawaii's swap meets tables lined up, folks browsing at their own pace, no high-pressure sales pitch every 30 seconds. Vendors could hang back a bit, flash a friendly smile, and only engage when someone shows real interest. It'd give tourists breathing room to actually fall in love with the products instead of feeling cornered into a forced buy. The hardworking sellers deserve better than constant "no"s, and we visitors deserve a few uninterrupted minutes of beach zen. A little salesmanship class (or just some designated browsing zones) could turn those interactions from interruptions into delightful discoveries. Cabo's already got the magic let's not chase it away with too much hustle. ¡Salud to finding that perfect balance!

The weather was genuinely nice, warm but not overly hot, which made it comfortable to be outside for a while. That said, the experience was mixed. The waves were pretty strong, which could be due to the Pacific influence or the constant traffic from nearby boats. Not ideal if you're looking for calm water. The biggest downside was the nonstop vendors. My husband sat on a towel on the sand and was constantly approached to buy massages, blankets, jewelry, etc. It became overwhelming, and after about an hour he was clearly fed up. It made it hard to relax or enjoy the beach. What really left a bad impression, though, was seeing a very young puppy tied to a beach umbrella with no shade or water. I shaded her for a bit and brought her water. Eventually the owner came back, but it was pretty upsetting and felt unnecessarily cruel. Overall, Playa Médano has nice weather and a lively atmosphere, but between the aggressive vendors and what we witnessed, it wasn't as enjoyable or relaxing as we hoped.
