However, you'll be able to rent beach umbrellas, paddle boards, snorkeling gears, and life vests for a steep cost from the locals. But worth it if your intended visit is not just for a quick "check it out" visit but to spend some time to relax, enjoy the scenery, and dip in the refreshing calm waters on a hot summer day. If you're in the know, this is the beach to go to while in Cabo San Lucas as this is considered one of the few swimmable beaches. With that said, in the afternoon, the winds are stronger than in the morning and the shore will toss you around a bit. Although this beach is new to me, all the locals know about it and they know to bring their umbrellas for shade (it's super hot in August), blankets, food, beverages, and music. Expect to hear Mexican music from each party. Even people with their yachts know about this beach as you'll see several yachts anchored near the shore. While on the beach we saw authorized vendors selling ice cold fruit from coolers. Surprisingly, in less than knee deep water, you can see a variety of fish without a mask. With a mask, the fish viewing is very good, but the shore is rough. For me, a huge benefit of this beach is that there are restrooms (sanitorios) and showers outside. Albeit, the showers are flooded from the sand, but at least there is an opportunity to remove sand before you get in the car. In Baja California, toilets are sensitive and people throw their toilet paper in a waste basket rather than in the toilet. Admittedly, it's tough to remember. During peak times, parking is challenging, but if you're patient enough, someone will leave. By the way, I wish the title of the Yelp was called Chileno Beach (Playa de Chileno) rather than Bahía Chileno (Chileno Bay) because it's easier to find via Maps. read more

A beautiful sheltered beach a few miles from Cabo. It's a public beach so parking can be an issue. But it's worth it. There's a reasonable changing room, toilets and showers which is a plus. The beach is always busy but we had no problem finding a spot. The rightmost area has a reef for snorkeling but we found schools of fish just offshore in 2-4' of water. In June, the water temperature was around 85° or so. read more

We frequented this beach to get a swim in the ocean as our resort (5 minute drive) had riptides and the black flag was up so we went around to the local beaches. It was a mix of locals, ex-pats, & tourists; plenty of places to swim or snorkel and spend time. The beach is pretty well maintained, with a pretty big parking lot and restrooms/locker rooms are near the entrance to the beach. read more

According to my Uber driver Chileno Beach is one of the only public beaches left in San Jose Del Cabo, which is very unfortunate. The beach was extremely clean, they had both clean bathrooms and showers, and the water was crystal clear... I didn't go in that deep because I don't even know how to swim, but as I was walking into the ocean and you could see fish right in front of you and it was purely amazing. There were a fair amount of people snorkeling, and just hanging out and enjoying the beach and water, it wasn't crowded, very tranquil and peaceful, it was a great time. I highly recommend going here for a beach day. read more

Best Cabo beach we found. Hands Down. Tons of locals, no vendors, no timeshare/activities sharks, free parking, Beautiful beach, calm waves, fine sand... soooo much good I could go on and on. We spent the whole day here after stocking up on snacks, drinks and fried chicken (Walmart has great buys in their deli area). Bring a cooler, beach umbrella, and snorkel and you're set for the day. This was the best, simple, lazy day we spent in Cabo, no doubt. read more

Perfect fine sand beach, excellent parking lot and bathroom/ shower facilities. Nice board walk from parking lot all the way down to the sand. The beach is spotless, we did not snorkle, but i guess this is the spot for it, its where the boats from the marina take people who book snorkle trips. One of the nicest beachs i have ever been on. i like Santa Maria better. Chileno seems like a good place for a family with small kids. Chileno had all these little streams of water flowing randomly through the beach, making it a perfect place for kids to play and splash while parents are BBQing next to them. i didnt go in the water. it was too crowded when i went the first time and since i wasn't crazy about it I just didn't go again. read more

The only reason I'm docking a star is because the new Chileno bay took down a bunch of palm trees and bougainvillea plants and has thus far replaced it with nothing. There's a nice path that you can walk on to the beach, and a free shower and bathroom at the top of the beach. Be warned, that bathroom can get pretty messy, very quickly. A nice place to hang out, you can get free umbrellas near the lifeguard station. Excellent snorkeling, where several boats let tourists out on day cruises. What used to feel more like a secret beach, is now very popular. Free parking which is great. read more

Superb *free* public beach for the family. You can snorkel here, lots of fish to see and relatively clear & calm water inside the safety markers. There's a board with safety advisories...luckily there was no black warning flag for water conditions. Some folks brought frozen green peas and the fish came over so you don't have to go into deep over; not sure if this is okay though. They also have a stand that rents & sets up umbrellas for shade at a reasonable price. Nice surprise to see new prefab facility with outside showers, although the bathrooms were still being installed. Great parking, plenty of spots and the lot looks new. We didn't follow Google Maps here, it asked us to take a dirt road. Instead there's a sign off Highway 1 for Chileno beach (heading from San Jose to Los Cabos, at least) and everything is well paved. read more

Best snorkeling spot within 15 minutes from downtown Cabo. Free to visit the beach, free parking, easy to locate, showers and bathrooms, squeaky clean beach with fine sand... We love Chileno Bay! What a great feeling it is to roast in the sun then jump in the crystal clear ocean to cool off. It's where the locals go, a quieter beach than Santa Maria. One thing to note about Santa Maria beach is the long 1+mile walk down from parking lot if you're not a guest at the Montage or surrounding resorts. I was amazed at the great snorkeling here. We had just come from Cabo Pulmo, which is touted as the best--this was better (and free!). The locals throw bread in the water to attract the fish and it works. As soon as you swim in, you are surrounded by fish. Lots to look at and plenty of room for everyone. Ditto to the other reviews about nice sand and free parking. Can't be beat if you're looking to swim or snorkel (best is at the south end). A short ride from downtown Cabo. read more

This places keeps changing when we come back. Now there is a nice walk way that takes you to the beach from the parking lot. This is a popular destination for snorkeling if you can tough on the cold water of the pacific. Bring your own chairs and umbrella. No beach vendors here but also no drink or food service here too. Go to Walmart of Costco before you come to this beach or Santa Maria. This beach was not crowded at all even with 3 cruise ships that tendered in that day. This time, we hired a private van and driver for 6 hrs to take us around. Great option to explore Cabo. Driving here is also easy enough. One main road along the coast to get to hotels, restaurants and beaches. read more

Gorgeous bay perfect for snorkeling just 10 miles away from the Cabo San Lucas downtown area. After reading several Tripadvisor reviews about this beach we knew we would make a trip to Chileno Bay on our recent trip to Cabo. The Bay is beautiful! And like Santa Maria Beach, a favorite for tourist snorkeling tours. Save yourself tons of money by taking a bus/driving your rental car and bringing your own snorkeling gear. Snorkeling is on the right side of the beach. You'll see hundreds of medium sized colorful fish. The SAND IS COARSE. Having water shoes is recommended especially when hot weather makes walking on the sand here difficult. Parking is easy and the Beach is just 3 minute walk from the lot. Lots of development going on here-including bathrooms! Portable potties are bathrooms here for now. Take an umbrella, sunscreen, drinks and snacks, and snorkeling gear, and enjoy a memorable day at Chileno Bay! read more

This is a beautiful beach, but they are doing a lot of construction around so if you can, try to check out this place soon! The water is crystal clear and blue. It's really clean and there weren't that many people here which is a definite plus! The only reason I knocked it down one star was because of how hard the sand is... there's a lot of shells so it makes it really difficult to walk on the beach. It was actually quite painful after spending a few hours out there and I just didn't want to get off my towel once it got too hot. I didn't see any kiosks where you can rent things.. luckily we rented a few umbrellas and snorkel gear from our resort to bring with us. Overall, a nice beach to check out if you're in the area.. but a word of advice is to bring some wet/water shoes just in case! read more

Here's the perfect beach for those who want to get away from the crowd and enjoy a quieter time tanning or snorkeling in the corridor section of Los Cabos. Be aware that it's a lot easier to get to and from here with a car than with a bus, however. For those interested in bussing it to here from San Lucas, make sure to wait at the bus stop near Puerto Paraiso and take the purple-colored one. The Chileno beach is right next to Chileno Bay resort, which happens to provide free access to snorkeling gears for its guests. Even for those who aren't guests may also able to use it as well. When I went there, a lifeguard helped me set up my beach umbrella and offered to give me a private snorkeling tour free of charge. The viewing of the marine life here makes it the best snorkeling experience of my life, since my guide (the lifeguard) had a bottle of dried bread to feed the fishes with. I was literally close enough to the fishes to touch them and being slapped by their fins. I'm not sure if I was just lucky or if the same service is freely provided for anyone though. However, your chances might be better if you go during off-season (I went at the end of November). The beach here is relatively calm and very swimmable. Unlike the Medano beach, there aren't any restaurants or bars on the shore, so you won't have to worry about the blaring music or smell of food in the area. And since the beach is close to an upscale resort, the surrounding landscapes are also well maintained and beautifully lined with bushes and trees as well. I'd highly recommend this beach for families, couples, and anyone with a car. If you're taking a bus there, you'll have to wait on the side of the freeway to flag down a bus back into town. read more

They are building a bunch of hotels/resorts all around which is a shame but they are not done building then just yet, so I would hurry! This beach is definitely where the locals come and hang out. If you aren't staying in downtown Cabo and staying more in the inland part of Cabo, this is the beach closest to you. A lot of the inland hotel resorts don't have access to the beach because it is too rocky but this one is completely safe to venture out in. It is a very nice beach and a good size. Around the beach they are building new resorts and hotels which is great to note for future trips. As any beach in Cabo, the sand is perfectly white and soft and the water is so warm and feels amazing! It is also a great place to swim with a safety line that had been placed to make sure you don't go to the deep end. One of my favorite beaches that we came to visit here. We had a rental car last time we were here, so decided to explore some of the local beaches. Chileno Bay (or Bahia Chileno) is a beautiful crescent-shaped cove beach about halfway between Cabo and San Jose. The water was crystal clear and Caribbean blues, but quite chilly at the end of March, and the sand was very course - would have been nice to have water shoes. Apparently sometimes there is snorkel equipment for rent on the beach , but not the day we went. But we waded out and could see the fish just by looking down. We met some kayakers who saw whales right off the beach. Several boats come and drop off dozens of snorkelers, which make the waters a little more crowded than they would ordinarily be, but still much quieter and more peaceful than the hustling Medano Beach. read more

I loved this beach. The water is beautiful. Can swim in the water here. Pretty quiet on a weekday when we were there. You could walk out by rocks and see fish swimming. I didn't notice any bathrooms or food places. We brought umbrellas and chairs and our own drinks. read more
