With that said, in the afternoon, the winds are stronger than in the morning and the shore will toss you around a bit. Although this beach is new to me, all the locals know about it and they know to bring their umbrellas for shade (it's super hot in August), blankets, food, beverages, and music. Expect to hear Mexican music from each party. Even people with their yachts know about this beach as you'll see several yachts anchored near the shore. While on the beach we saw authorized vendors selling ice cold fruit from coolers. Surprisingly, in less than knee deep water, you can see a variety of fish without a mask. With a mask, the fish viewing is very good, but the shore is rough. For me, a huge benefit of this beach is that there are restrooms (sanitorios) and showers outside. Albeit, the showers are flooded from the sand, but at least there is an opportunity to remove sand before you get in the car. In Baja California, toilets are sensitive and people throw their toilet paper in a waste basket rather than in the toilet. Admittedly, it's tough to remember. During peak times, parking is challenging, but if you're patient enough, someone will leave. By the way, I wish the title of the Yelp was called Chileno Beach (Playa de Chileno) rather than Bahía Chileno (Chileno Bay) because it's easier to find via Maps.

Tucked right beside the famous El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, this little stretch of sand sits where the Pacific Ocean shakes hands with the Gulf of California. Boats can't always nose right up to shore, so sometimes they anchor out and well congratulations, you're swimming the rest of the way. Not exactly the plan when you're holding a drink and thinking about tacos. But there I was, staring at that water thinking, alright... here we go. First step in refreshing. Second step whoa, that's colder than advertised. But once you're in, you're in, and suddenly the whole thing turns into the kind of travel story you remember forever. And that's Cabo in a nutshell. Music drifting through the air, drinks flowing, tacos somewhere nearby, somebody laughing so hard the whole beach joins in. My wife was cracking up, people were singing, and the day just kept rolling like a perfect Baja postcard. Lovers Beach itself is only reachable by boat, which somehow makes it feel like a little secret tucked against those golden rock formations. You look around and think, yeah... this is the good stuff. So if you make it to Cabo, don't just look at it from the boat jump in, swim if you have to, and make the memory. Trust me... that's the story you'll still be telling later.

The weather was genuinely nice, warm but not overly hot, which made it comfortable to be outside for a while. That said, the experience was mixed. The waves were pretty strong, which could be due to the Pacific influence or the constant traffic from nearby boats. Not ideal if you're looking for calm water. The biggest downside was the nonstop vendors. My husband sat on a towel on the sand and was constantly approached to buy massages, blankets, jewelry, etc. It became overwhelming, and after about an hour he was clearly fed up. It made it hard to relax or enjoy the beach. What really left a bad impression, though, was seeing a very young puppy tied to a beach umbrella with no shade or water. I shaded her for a bit and brought her water. Eventually the owner came back, but it was pretty upsetting and felt unnecessarily cruel. Overall, Playa Médano has nice weather and a lively atmosphere, but between the aggressive vendors and what we witnessed, it wasn't as enjoyable or relaxing as we hoped.

The sand was very fine, so that part doesn't make it hurt to walk on. But for whatever reason, it was somehow harder to walk on this beach versus other beaches, both on the dry and even the wet sand. I really felt my calves working in ways the other beaches didn't make me work lol. I'd normally remove 2 stars for the difficulty walking, and inabilty to swim here, but I'm just removing 1 because it's mother Nature after all!

There are some magnificent rock structures and villas scattered along the shoreline which make excellent photo opps. During the weekday we were here and there was plenty of parking and we bought mangoes in the parking lot, which were really good. He did a excellent job cutting and prepping it out for us. You take the walk back and then you see the ocean and the beach and I was just in awe of how beautiful it was. This is pretty close to paradise. It was a big contrast from the Bajia Beach House we were at for the past couple of days where there are a lot of tourists, loud music, vendors, and just noise in general. This place is so serene and quiet and calm and yes, it is connected to a resort, but it was not overcrowded, no loud music, you could see a lot of the locals were here, and the beach area to swim was very large and vast. If I lived in Cabo, I would probably come here every weekend. The only downer was the sand consisted of very small pebbles so if your feet are sensitive, then I highly suggest water shoes or sandals - which I'm so glad I brought. I am so glad I got to experience this place, thanks to our local friend and temporary tour guide. If you're in Cabo looking for some nice peace and relaxation and a beautiful scene, you definitely need to come here.

It's best visited early or later in the day - before tourista boats arrive or after they depart. Easy to find this beach off the highway, just stay away when I'm in town - please?! Just kidding... Sizeable parking lot, restrooms and a policia presence - I appreciate the effort made to keep cars from being broken into. There are a few vendors on the beach offering the typical items (I bought a few blankets off one guy) and "renting" beach umbrellas - a must if you stay all day! My first visit a few years ago was delightful - prior to the completion of the Montage. It's still nice, but the arrival of the Montage has placed more people on/overlooking the beach (it's not as quaint as it once was...) Nonetheless, SM Beach is awesome! 5 stars

As a result, we liked it way more than Medano Beach. It was not crowded at all and it is swimmable as well. There are even people there renting umbrellas. We found it very relaxing to hang out here for half the day. If you want to be a little adventurous there are rocks to climb on the eastern side of the beach and you can even walk past that along the rocks. FYI, this beach is also known as Playa Empacadora and Cannery Beach.

We read the good reviews and we made reservations with Juan Carlos for the larger boat for a half day of fishing at $550 without buying the boxed lunch. We were transferred to another guy who walked us to the dock and transferred again to our captain (Santiago) and deckhands (Brandon and Gus(?)). We spent the first several hours trawling top water baits presumably for marlin. At one point the captain hooked one and set the hook and reeled it in some. After he did the fun part he passed the pole to me. Before I could hold the pole and start reeling the fish got off the line. That was as close to getting a fish we got all day. At some point they switched to bottom fishing with live bait but got no bites. We could see other boats around us landed fish. When we arrived back to the docks the other boats succeeded in catching themselves "sushi." The captain and deckhands were nice enough, but spoke zero English. Their Spanish was unintelligible as I am an OK Spanish speaker but they were both hard to understand and not interested to talk. The captain and deckhands did not communicate, did not tell us the plan for the day, could not explain what to do with the equipment. We basically watched them fish all morning and almost didn't get to touch the rods ourselves. Our family of four felt like spectators. They had about 8-10 live fish in the well for the entire ride. When they ran out of live bait our trip was over. I feel like it would have been more appropriate to have more bait available at this price point so that we wouldn't go home empty handed. Also, there's a sign on the boat announcing you're expected to add a 25-30% tip. We complied with tipping with no questions asked despite no communication, no teaching, and no fish. I had told the kids in advance that we would catch a fish and take it to a restaurant to eat that night like other reviewers. Be aware that you could spend $550 before tip, watch the staff fish all day, not touch the equipment yourselves, and get skunked.
