Capt John assured us that his GPS coordinates would take us to the best fishing spots in the Gulf and he was correct. Capt John told us stories of him out to sea hunting lobsters, tuna, and big water monsters when all of a sudden, we hooked a monster of our own. Boat was very clean, plenty of supplies, and it was nice to have AC on board during the day. Sunset in the Gulf off of St Pete was spectacular. Very reasonably priced and the ease of having all of the equipment and bait on board made the day. Well, actually, what made the day was my son and I enjoying a fantastic day on the water together. If you can't tell, I highly recommend Matador Deep Sea Fishing and especially Captain John.

We got a nice tour passing by a mangrove and by the time we reached under the bridge where the catfish live, it was dark enough for our LED lights to illuminate the water so we could see and feed the catfish. Then it was a nice paddle back to shore. This is the perfect date night activity, whether you're beginners or have done it before. Only 2 people max can be in the same kayak as long as they are under the weight limit, so if you come in odd numbered parties, someone will have to be fine with kayaking alone.

Prior to the trip, I attempted multiple times to contact the company with questions through email, text, and Facebook messages. There was no way to leave a voicemail, and despite messages clearly being read, I received no response. Then, just four hours before the scheduled trip, a generic automated email was sent canceling the experience and instructing customers to request a refund. After that, communication again became nonexistent. I received no response regarding next steps for the refund despite repeated outreach. Unfortunately, I ultimately had to file a dispute with my bank to recover the payment for a service that was never rendered. Weather cancellations are understandable -- poor communication and lack of customer support are not.

My son, my brothers and I had great fun. And we are as a group like herding cats. I certainly improved my fishing skills and all of us caught fish, including some Kings Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Snook, and a Mangrove Snapper. There was one King dump one of our reels just before cutting off on a crab trap. And lost another that went about 30lb when it skyed onto one of baits and catching our mainline with his teeth upon entry. We came back with a ton of great memories and a cooler packed with meat. Captain Chad was so incredible with the kids. They will have lifelong memories of this amazing day. We ran into a large school of mahi mahi, which was super fun. We had an awesome battle with a cobia and got some sweet photos. We caught a ton of red grouper. One with an epic fight my son will NEVER forget. Nice mangrove snapper. Tasty lane snappers. I'm probably forgetting more. It was non-stop reeling. Great boat boat. Super well maintained. Very roomy, which was comfortable for fishing and traveling. Excellent rods/reels/tackle. If El Capitano is open, don't hesitate. Definitely worth it.

Wow! What an experience! We took a 9am tour to Shell Key on Cap'n Dalton's boat. There were only…read moresix passengers on board, which meant there was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sunshine. Dalton provided expert commentary about the area, even pointing out a few celebrity homes and yachts along the way. It was a gorgeous ride over to Shell Key, and we even saw a few dolphins along the way. Once on the island, we had about 45-50 minutes to explore the beaches and do a little snorkeling and shell-hunting. The island is aptly named, with rows and piles of shells along its white, sandy beaches. The water was warm and perfect for swimming. Soon enough we were back on board and heading back to the harbor. And that's when the magic happened: dolphins! Following along in our wake, and no doubt attracted to the enthusiastic squeals of one of our dolphin-loving fellow passengers, the dolphins put on quite a show. Even Dalton, who I assume sees a LOT of dolphins, was impressed by how long they followed in our wake and performed jumps and flips for us. It was truly one of the most remarkable experiences of my life! Thank you Dalton and Island Ferry for an amazing and memorable tour and one of the true highlights of our vacation!

Groups are small and the boats are very comfortable. They use pontoon boats so you have shade, which I definitely appreciated. The beach they took us to to snorkeling was gorgeous.
