Do you think you have done everything well? How about adding the ability to drive a speed boat to your list? Well, that's exactly what I did. This was just flipping amazing. The location is a little off the beaten path. However, it has a beautiful beach right next to it, so if you show up early enough or stay after, there is basically a "local" beach, and it's beautiful. You want to show up a little early for the safety briefing and to take some great pics. You can bring whatever except alcohol or weapons so if you want to bring some water you can. I had no idea, so I didn't. Also, I would recommend great pockets or a fanny pack because you can't set your phone on the seat as it will slide into the back of the boat and be gone. I put mine in my shorts pocket between pics and videos. This is so cool. You are taught by a wonderful captain who has 30+ years of experience in the industry. He will lead you on a jet ski into the open water waters of Tampa Bay. You will get almost 45 minutes of high-speed boating excitement. Make sure to watch for any waves and follow all the tips and rules you learn in the beginning, and you will have a time of your life. You will go past places you can't see on land and experience going under bridges while being able to say, "I know how to drive a boat now." That's a bucket list if you ask me. I would highly recommend this thrilling adventure next time you are in Tampa. It really is like a Segway tour with speedboats!!! I went when it was like 65 degrees out, and with the sun, it was perfect. I recommend sunscreen and maybe a secure hot in the summertime. You must try this, though!! Had a blast on the Speed Boat Adventures. It's just like driving a go-cart is what they told us. I could agree with that. I never drove a boat before. These speed boats were super easy. Both Hubby and I got to experience driving it on water. I really wanted to fly on water, but if you want to really fly on water, get a wave runner. It will be faster. That could be subjective though, and you might find it quite fast for your comfort. I preferred riding instead of driving. With riding I could see everything around me. With driving, I was too focused on following too closely, or not driving into things, boats, people, etc. There were about 4 or 5 speed boats in our group, and we followed each other in a line. We had to maintain a certain space from each other obviously and all got to get the max speed on the boat. If the boat in front of you was not fast, you might not be able to go as fast. That would have annoyed me if that were the case. The guide was awesome and he made sure we were all comfortable, and also gave us highlights about the area through the speakers that were all in the boats... We got to see a bird sanctuary, awesome mansions on the water, nice boats, and be on the water for a few hours. It was a great experience, and if it's something you want to do, go for it. Just an FYI, you feel the bumps more as a passenger than a driver. As a driver, I always wanted to find the waves just to get that extra thrill. You don't really get very wet in these boats, at least I thought so. read more

We visited St Petes recently and booked this adventure since we had never driven a speed boat before. I found it fairly easy to get accustomed to driving the speed boat really quickly. During the course of the tour, we also encountered dolphins up close, so that was great. And who doesn't like speed especially when you are in control of the throttle and the wheel. What a fun speedboat trip. There was our guide Dustin as well as one other couple besides us. Both of us had 2 person boats. Dustin led us on a jet ski and we followed behind. His initial directions as well as use of the boat was very easily understood. We saw many sites including John's pass, a pelican sanctuary and the skyway bridges. Very cool, very adventurous trip. What a great experience we had at St Petersburg Speed Boat Adventures. The water was choppy as all get out on Memorial Day but the captain made us aware of it and said that being the 11am tour we would be OK. We were...it was thrilling and scary at the same time. The Captain instilled confidence in our group and we survived :) I even got air on someone's wake, but hey...that's part of driving a speed boat right? The Captain also took time to gather us up a few times during the ride and point out local sites and things that we could see from the water. It was a great tour and we would do it again! Hands down the best excursion in Tampa!!! Visited Speed Boat Adventures on March 25, 2019 and had a great experience cruising around the Tampa Bay, Gulf of Mexico and around the channels. We saw a lot of dolphins, manatees and expensive homes! The best part of was the view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge! You travel approximately 20 miles on the water for over 1 hour!!! The water is pretty much smooth and barely a low chop. You don't get wet and the experience is amazing. The fee was $126 for 2 people and the owner and guide were very pleasant and accommodating. We saw the cold front coming in on Tuesday and Wednesday and thought we should do the tour a day earlier. They had no problems adjusting our reservation and getting us out on the water! The boats handled really well. You don't need to know much about driving a boat to operate these things. Pretty simple and they will explain everything to you before departing. Definitely going to do it again! Might suggest a frequent visitor card because of how much fun it was!!! read more

This is a great experience for seeing west bay sights from a brand new perspective. Pop in a little 14' zippy boat, and you drive it around, following the boat in front of you. Lots of cool sights, you'll probably see dolphins, and the boat leader (Skippy? Sammy? Scooter? Some kind of S name, sorry I can't remember it) has some fun anecdotes and cool information. He's spot on with on-the-fly instructions too, so you'll always feel comfortable and safe. Which leads me to my next point - when I found out I was driving (instead of what I thought it was - a guided tour where you just sit in a boat and look around while someone else drives), I was a bit apprehensive. Last time I piloted a boat was, like, 2004. But the instructions are easy to learn and follow, and the boats are a breeze to pilot, and very forgiving. IF YOU'RE FROM OUT OF TOWN - for the love of god, listen to them when they say it's shallow. The average depth of the entire bay is eight feet, and the areas where SBA takes you get much shallower. Follow the wake in front of you, and you'll be good. This is a very cool excursion if you're from the area, and absolutely unforgettable if you're from out of town. Go here and do this. read more

I should have realized from the title of the company that this was clearly just a high speed experience. We were the only boat behind the guide who led us by a JetSki. We thought he was going to narrate the whole thing but he hardly said a thing. In fact we thought our CB was broken because we never heard him talk while we were going through he area with nice homes. He checked in once then took off full throttle for probably 45 minutes. As the driver my husband had fun but as the passenger I was holding on to the single handle on the dash. Exhilarating yes but a disappointment if you want to spot any dolphins or manatee (per the description). I understand that tips are important to the guides. But he clearly suggested 20% and more if possible... we felt strange not tipping 20+% as we were the only ones and it was clearly suggested. I would not do this again. I was disappointed and had a headache afterwards but if you're a speed demon you'll probably like it read more

Then our group looked for guide and he never got on his boat and we were just sitting in an area where other boats were passing by and didn't know what to do. We are a little older and our guide patiently helped my husband in and out of the boat and explained the rules thoroughly. I have to say first that all my interactions with staff were excellent, they were so friendly and nice during the scheduling process and when I got lost and needed directions they were super patient and friendly at that time too. This is a fun concept, the boats were easy to drive and felt safe but yet went fast. They however have a very strict policy that they will not give a refund or reschedule a tour if it rains and our tour got about 1/4 of the way through before we got soaked with pouring rain. We ended up soaked, disappointed and with noting to show for all the money we had spent but wet clothes. We did get to go fast a few times but in the pelting rain it wasn't that great. I think it would be a really great tour, just beware of the their strict policies on weather, I am sure it would be excellent if you got a great day or a chance to reschedule if you were caught in a monsoon. read more

The best part of my whole vacation! Go-carts on the water is the best description I can think of. We had a pod of 8-10 dolphins within about 10 or 15 feet of the boat. It was awesome. The guys were so cool and the trip was ridiculously fun. We were out on the water about 1.5 hours but it felt like 20 minutes. I'd go again in a heartbeat! NOTE: I'm a BIG guy (3X shirt) and was worried about fitting in the boat comfortably. They were so nice and had a life jacket for me and the boat was no problem. Coolest adventure ever! The people who operate Speed Boat Adventures are so chill! Before I arrived in Florida, the person who I was in contact with (Chris) was very accommodating. My friend and I planned on going on this adventure on the same day that I landed in Florida and I was afraid my flight was going to get delayed. I kept in touch with Chris and he made sure that we were able to experience this unique attraction. He even left me a voice mail during my layover in Nashville to make sure I was going to arrive in Florida on time. I am glad that things worked out perfectly for us! The weather was a bit off (well, nothing can compare to sunny Southern Caifornia's weather), but we were lucky it didn't rain or thunderstorm while we were out on the water. Our guide, Captain Scott, was very enthusiastic about his work and about the area we were boating through. He made me want to quit my day job and start working as a tour guide haha. Neither of us had ever operated a boat before, but we found out that it was extremely simple and fun! Chris gave us a run down on how to operate the boat while Scott got the boats ready for us. Everything was very safe and we were assured that the boat would not flip over (SPOILER ALERT: it didn't!). We were given the opportunity to switch seats so that both of us could operate the boat during the middle(ish) portion of the tour, so don't worry about not getting a chance to operate it. Wife and I had a great time on this excursion. I snagged a deal on groupon and made an early appointment to which we arrived a little early and hung around for bit with the staff and had a cup of coffee from the convenient store next to this place. We also were kept company by a manatee feeding by the dock. I had fun doing some free styling and being allowed to push the throttle down.
