During my favorite visits, the bartenders explain each drink you order as they serve it and tell you the story. Every drink has a story. Sometimes they are busy or not interested and you don't get the story. I wouldn't have noticed that the drink tastes like a salad, and not in the bad way, had the bartender not told me the story. A couple of times I asked if they have merch for sale and one time they had pins which I bought. The next time I came, they were out of both pins and shirts. Bummer. I recommend a visit when you're looking for a cool place in Amsterdam, especially when you are staying at the hotel.

The decor was very nice as well. I didn't try any food there. Now it comes to the important part of the review. It's all about the cocktails. I got the Beeswax Old Fashioned(17 Euros). It was very good and a nice twist on an old fashioned. My second drink was the Paradiso Manhattan(17 Euros) and it was a tasty cocktail with something extra. It came with a piece of chocolate that was made with mushroom powder. They paired well together. I can't give it five stars for one reason. The drinks were very good, but they were a little weak. I felt very little to nothing after my second drink. I'm not a big drinker and I have a low tolerance for alcohol. The drinks need to be a little stronger. More of a kick to them. I would still recommend Super Lyan to anyone that has the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam on holiday.

Antwerp is not known for skyscrapers after all. The bar is very spacious and cleanly decorated. Pretty classy in my opinion. I talked a bit with the bartender and told him that I was looking for a boozy cocktail that would match a bulleit rye bottle that I noticed in the bar. He didn't have any in the menu, but suggested his take on a classic: a smoked pumpkin old fashioned. I thought that the smoke was just shenanigans, but in this case it added some peat to the cocktail. I loved it. It was nice to relax a bit with a nice view and a great cocktail in hand. Too bad I could not stay long, as I had dinner scheduled with some friends in another restaurant. I can see myself spending a quality evening there. Oh, well, next time I guess.

Especielly when looking at what people was getting for that money (not very much). With the very expensive menue with very little flexibility and seemingly low value for money, I decided to only have a drink and some finger foods. On the wine list they do not have any options if you want wine by the glass only 1 white, red and rose house wine is available, which I find is really limited - especielly when you call yourself a lounge bar. Their finger food is store bought tortilla chips (bad quality) with a "Chef's famous home made salsa" which is a store bought salsa that they've added chopped tomatoes, corn and onions. I also had their large chips with sea salt which were large squares of potato chips that were covered in sea salt, very salty. In addition they were served on a piece of wood that had been chemically treated (toxic!!). I would say - come here if you want coctails and a view - for that it's great!

Unfortunately, as time has gone on, the experience has really started to slide. It's the flagship lounge for KLM's home hub, but honestly, it's becoming a bit embarrassing for the brand. The biggest issue is the overcrowding. It feels more like a busy train station than an exclusive retreat. What's most frustrating is that they have that expensive "Blue" pay-to-eat restaurant taking up a massive chunk of the upper level. It's usually half-empty while everyone else is downstairs cramped together. If they just integrated that space back into the regular lounge area, it would breathe so much life back into the place. As for the food, it's just aggressively average. You'd think a flagship lounge would showcase some high-quality dining, but it feels very "mass production" and lacks any real flavor or variety. Then there's the cleanliness/pest issue. On my last visit, I actually saw a mouse zip across the floor. I know Schiphol has a well-known reputation for a mouse problem because of its location and age, but seeing one in what is supposed to be a "premium" lounge is still a major turn-off. KLM really needs to step it up. Between the crowds, the average snacks, and the uninvited furry guests, it's just not the world-class experience it used to be. They could--and should--do a lot better than this.
