I dropped of a huge amount of quality clothing - easily 60 items. I contacted them to pick up a check (as is the protocol) and was given a date. When I go there they could not find the check. Told me to come back the following week. The following week the same story - and no record of my account. I've been going there for 3 years despite the shady reviews and my own experiences with their incompetence. Now I'm done. Donate before you bring your things here - at least you get a tax write off! Please be aware of this business! It's not worth the trouble! There is no consistency regarding the contract terms (if you can even get one)!! My items were in perfect condition some new with tags.. boxed designer leather boots and bags.. ( she sold for peanuts!) How ridiculous! She has no conception of what things are worth! The owner told me you can take back anything that hasn't sold in 60 days then she change it to 90 days! Nobody there is on the same page! It was also told to me that I can retrieve my unsold items under $25 after the 60 or 90 days?? It's impossible to reach these people as they are only open 3 days a week and nobody other than "Mary" can help you unless it's a purchase.. ??? I finally got the chance to go back to this out of my way consignment shop to pick up my unsold items under $25, but wait - Mary changed it to $50 without any notice to me and probably others! Therefore she donated it ALL to charity? She screamed at me saying it's in the contract!!! Again there was NO CONTRACT!! This woman is the most unprofessional , rude business owner I have ever dealt with! Her constant excuse is her internet isn't working, the computer is down, constantly giving you the run around! I give them less than a 0 and here is why... I went to Plum one week ago today. I saw a pair of ski's and ski boots asked the price they didn't know... they said they would get back to me... they did. I told them I would like to buy them and that I would be there on Thursday since they don't open on Monday Tuesday or Wednesdays. I left a voicemail on Tuesday asking a question about them and never heard back from them. I was literally on my way out the door to go pick them up and I saw a missed call from them. I called them right back and they told me they sold the skis and boots this morning. First time consigning with Plum Consignment, it was a horrible experience, I should have read up on the reviews before I dropped in with my 6 items of clothing. I was told the breakdown is 60/40 and they charge you a 10.00 fee to start. The women told me they donate the items they don't sell after 60 days if the items are priced lower then 50.00, still not sure why I didn't grab my things and head out the door after hearing all this but I hung in there. she examined my clothing and especially admired one of the dresses which was a Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti purchased at Bergdorf Goodman still with tags on and she said don't worry about this piece it will not be lower then 50.00 so you should be able to take it back after the 60 days. Just a note , I don't remember being told about getting an email to discuss the pricing though I really should have questioned that and not left the pricing up to them, because even with the invention of the internet they don't seem to grasp the different designer labels. I arrived on my scheduled day to pick up my check and it was waiting for me , I sold 3 items for a total of 50.00, not exactly what I expected but ok, lesson learned. I then asked her about the 3 items that didn't sell and she said I don't know where they are and if they're under 50.00 they will be donated and she said I could look for them on the sales floor and I did and brought them up to the counter and there was my dress that was so expensive priced at I think like 35.00 ,she absolutely refused to give me back the dress , instead she handed me back a Vince sweater and said here you can have this as it was priced at 50.00 , I said how could you price the sweater at 50.00 and this dress with tags at 35.00, her reply , Well Vince is a good brand, well yes it is a nice brand, but you obviously don't know your designer brands that well. I said I want the dress back and she said I can't do it for you and not everyone else, So what ,your so intent on donating it and couldn't give me back just that one special dress that your associate said would definitely be priced higher, so not to worry.Then she says we sent you an email telling you the prices , of course I never received the email and she says oh yeah a lot of people complain about that, so I said can you resend the email to me, and she wouldn't . Brought 5 Coach handbags to this store. They never let me know if any were sold. I finally called them 6 months later and was told they already paid me for these. Now I remember exactly because they told me that the bags were "winter" bags and they would have a hard time selling in spring. Absolutely positively DO NOT consign here. There are no words to describe how you will be treated. If you buy here, please know management is stealing from consigners. I wish I'd read the other reviews before trying Plum Consignment. I've consigned with multiple other shops in the past and am well versed in protocol. I agree with the other review that taxes are being avoided and consigners are being stolen from. I will give you quotes from Mary the owner, the following statements are HER words. "We get all our messages, but we don't return them all." "We were negligent with your account." "Lots of customers don't keep their appointments with me, so I didn't keep mine with you." Short story: Three bags of designer high end clothes are gone, they've given me no check, said nothing sold and it was given to charity. Five days later they "found some of my clothes." Two items had tags ripped off with holes where the tags had been, so we're ruined. No account statement has yet been produced, despite multiple requests. Multiple attempts to pick up the unsold items, two hang ups from two different employees, and Mary no showed for two appointments to give me a statement of my account. If you "drop in" they tell you "we don't have that screen up on the computer, we can't help you," or "Only Mary can get in the computer." It's ridiculous, a waste of time, and they charge you $10 cash to start consigning with them. I believe my clothes were never entered into the computer, so when sold there is no record. Therefore Plum Consignment keeps all the money and tells the consigner the clothes were given to charity. One evening while I was waiting a customer was negotiating the purchase of a Gucci bag. It was I tagged and the customer offered $650 cash if she "could buy it now." I'm not sure what the end result was, but if purchased I tagged and with cash, that goes to the theories mentioned. read more

Extremely rude associates. When I went back for the things that weren't sold... they weren't there. If they weren't sold where were they ? I consigned 13 items and was paid a whopping $8 for two items that they told me were sold. So if the other 11 items weren't sold where were they ? It's part of their policy to return what is not sold. I was told I needed to go through the entire store to find my things myself. So I did and not one of the items were there. Attempted to help a friend who is going through difficult family medical issues. She had consigned multiple high end items with this shop in September, and wanted to retrieve them. She wrote up a directive, naming me her representative and authorizing me to retrieve her items on her behalf, as well as securing payment for items already sold, and for how much, which I gave to Mary. She was quite rude, and advised me she didn't have time to do it then, (which I didn't expect) and advised me to return the end of November to retrieve the items. This occurred last Friday 10/21. I told her end of November was unacceptable the items needed to be returned sooner. She gave me an appointment for today at 12:30. I showed up at 12:30 & she wasn't there, and the person working there knew nothing about a scheduled pickup. I sat & waited for her and she showed up about 1:15. When I approached her she completely ignored me. I advised her that I was there for the scheduled 12:30 appointment as she directed & she told me she didn't have time so nothing is ready. She further advised that she wouldn't talk any further with me until she received legal advice. While I was waiting for her to show up I looked all over the store & it appears that all of my friends merchandise had been removed with the exception of 1 pair of timberland boots. Needless to say this isn't over, but be forewarned that this business does not exercise ethical business practices and consign with plum consignment at your own risk. read more

Brought in about 30 items to be reviewed. I was told that I would be notified after they determined which items they were keeping. I received a call about a week later and was told to pick up the things that they did not want for the store. I told them I was away and would be back in two days and would pick them up. I went to get them and they were gone. Accidently donated I was told. She was very apologetic and I was very understanding. She offered to take the new items I had brought and sell them and give me the entire sale price with no deduction for them. I accepted. I began calling 3 weeks ago to see if it was time to pick up the things so the unsold items would not be donated again. I called 3 times and did not get a call back until I became angry on the 3 call. I was told to pick up my check and the items that didn't sell. I arrived and was given a check that deducted the fee for the store. Suddenly no one remembered the offer that was made to me on my last visit. I know what I was told by the woman in the store. I am not crazy. I know what I was told. I left the store leaving the remaining items and the check because I cannot stand dishonest people read more

I walked in the door, and the store smelled like old people. Had the worst experience trying to resell my items. I received no itemization of what I left with them, no email, nothing. A week later I went in for the inventory list and my things were still on the floor untagged within reach where anyone could grab them. Plum is a terrible consignment shop! They are so off in the pricing of the merchandise. If the items are new with tags she might take off like about 15 or 20 dollars. Consignment is supposed to be 45 to 65 percent off retail. Many items do not have pricing on them and the girl always has to call the owner for the price. It's Rediculous. No receipts everything is hand written with no returns. Not work the trip. Take a ride to Ramsey or Ridgewood you will pay half the price for the same type of up handbags or items. read more

Plum is a top notch consignment shop and a beautiful boutique. It's an opportunty to clean out your closet and shop some of the finest consignment in the area. The store and merchandise are exceptionally clean and the staff is like having a personal shopper. They pay 50% of the selling price to the consigner and its only $10.00 per year to bring in as much as you want... Any time. You must make an appt. after 60/days to pick up your check and whatever didn't sell, they donate to a charitable group for women. They carry many designer names including LV, Prada, M Kors, TB, and a lot of others that are not knock offs. For the most part they have a lot of nice things, but I think they are very disorganized. I have seen , and has my partner and my sister who shop there ;many things on the rack that should not be there period. Very odd. We were there at the holidays and saw items with tickets, layaways I believe, which were out in the open on racks, which someone unscrupulous could just take off the tags and purchase since there are many salespeople part-time.! I guess that's how they are stored. One person complained while we were there that her layaway did not have all its payments on the tickets listed. And that out of the many salespeople some won't even give receipts. In reading their reviews on here and other places makes you wonder. My sister did ask how long a layaway was held and the saleswoman said as long as you need, but clearly that may not be the case,as I read here. People have said things just get donated w/o their knowledge after so many days. And it seems like you can nwver get help on a complaint either frim the owner.In any case we did another so we will see how that goes. Again a lot of nice and not so nice items.As well as some nice help but then questionable sales practices.When my sister put her deposit down in cash which there was no urgency to afix it to the item.She got very worried, since people can forget in the rush if things and people bringing in clothes and other sales being made on other items. One time we even hung out shopping quite a while and it never got on the item the whole time we were there and they were so busy attending to people bringing in clothes all we got was a post it as a receipt! This was cash !. It was as if it would be dealt with .....when they got around to it.What if they forget or get busy? Things like this happened on several occasions, different people each time. Not very encouraging at all. Of course the item was picked up with no problem, but still. The reveiws and what we witnessed at the shop. Not very Disorganized? Dishonest? Absolutely the worst consignment set up. Do NOT consign here. They have no real strategy on recording what you have consigned. I never received an email with the inventory they decided to keep or the prices associated with it. I told them not to donate my clothes after the 60 days that I was going to come and pick them up. I missed one appointment to go pick up my clothes. They never called me they just donated it. Meanwhile they still had a pair of my shoes on their floor to sell. Which would have meant that if they did sell them it would have been 100% profit for them and nothing for me because they have no real record of what you consign. ​This is a very difficult consignment shop to do business with. I had problems when I dropped off my clothes and when it was time to pick up my check. If you leave a message ​you'll be lucky if they return your call. If they send you an email, you can not reply to it as they told me they do not actively monitor their e-mail. My father passed away after I dropped off my clothes, so I sent a​​n e-mail and also left a message on their answering machine to let them know I could not pick up my clothes that week. When I returned, four days later, they had left six messages on my home answering machine stating that if I did not pick up my clothes, they were going to donate them. Since no one knew the manager's schedule, it took three phone calls just to schedule an appointment to pick up my check. When I arrived at the agreed upon time, the manager ​w​as not there. ​The employee ​who was there did not have access to the computer so she could ​not ​tell me what items sold and did not have authorization to write a check. ​​She had to call the person with whom I had the appointment to see if she could meet with me. I ​then ​waited 30 min​utes​ for her to come to the store. ​ I could not find one item that did not sell so they asked me to call in a week to see if they ​found it. I called but no one called me back. They eventually found the item. On my fourth trip to the store, I told them that I would not be back ​due to my great frustration in dealing with them. I asked to have the manager call me to give them an opportunity to make things right. ​A​ couple times I asked for the manager or owners name but I was not given that information. I received a call 4 days later. I told ​the person who called me about my horrible experience dealing with them and told her if she sent me a $10 check​,​ which was my membership fee, ​I would feel like they were working with me to resolve this poor customer service experience. She said she would not send me the $10 check and that most people just donate their clothes. If that is the case, than this should be a Thrift shop not a Consignment shop. Don't know where to start. Purchased a mink coat here. Employee called manager to make sure I still got the sale discount and the manager insisted I pay $120 cash... okaaaay no big deal. Then she handed me the coat and sent me on my way, no receipt nothing (they're either not paying their taxes or stealing from consignors). Guess it was my own fault I was in a rush but I didn't think I would have a problem with this coat. Came home put it on and half the sleeve ripped off. Called back the next day and spoke to an employee at plum who apparently called the manager to see what can be done about this while promising me at LEAST store credit. I called back a few times after that looking for the manager and was told they don't know when she comes in and that she's not there and have no idea when she will come (lol nice management). I go back there with my mother two days later and the lady (named terry I believe) has no idea why we're there. No effort to resolve the problem, all we get is "we don't do returns, you bought it ripped, manager is never here". I've shopped at consignments for years and never have I experienced such sh*tty quality or such bad customer service. I was expecting either a refund or for them to fix the giant hole under the armpit but no she refused to help us. On top of everything she REFUSED to call the manager or give us her name OR the manager's name (isn't it the managers job to resolve these problems?) And then she offered to give us the receipt we never got at the point of sale lol slick. As she was writing out the receipt she kept asking my mother for her first and last name! All while refusing to reveal her real name and did not even put her initials on the handwritten receipt. First she tells us the managers name is terry (I was told its Mary when I called a few days before wth) and then my mom asks what her name is and she goes I told you it's terry... I'm suspecting she was the manager/owner of the store and was just pretending to be an employee. Shady shady shady. If you consign here beware, they encourage customers to pay cash and then pocket the money and claim the merchandise got donated for being in the store too long. Sad because I bought two things from them and I was going to make this my staple store to stop by every now and then.
