My friends and I drank quite a bit of tea, and definitely ate pretty much all of the food. The building/ house is really pretty both on the outside and the inside. It's also cool because it is within Stanmer Park. It is fairly secluded, in a good way, but not too far from things at all. The best thing about this place is that it's so pretty and peaceful.

Stanmer House was built in 1720 for the first Earl of Chichester, Thomas Pelham by the architect…read moreNicholas Dubois. It's a quintessential English country house, built in a restrained classical style, and set in 5,000 acres of parkland - also landscaped in the classical English style. The House itself incorporated part of the house of the previous owners of the estate, the Michelborne family, who were connected with the manor (then called Audwick) as early as 1594. The new house was in the restrained Classical style so popular for English country houses, with little adornment. A later extension to the right wing has spoiled the symmetry somewhat, but the ensemble is still handsome enough. Although most of the contents were dispersed when the House was sold to the Council, the ground floor interiors of this Grade 1 listed building are reasonably well preserved and tastefully decorated, and worth a look - the main function rooms of the house are open to visitors for free when not in use. Among other things, they contain a midly diverting collection of old photographs, but most of the original contents have long since gone - however, the modern furnishings fit in well enough in a 'Country House Hotel' sort of way. The grounds are now owned by Brighton City Council as Stanmer Park (see separate entry), but the house has been retained as a conference and events venue, and specialises in special dinners, weddings and similar events. The venue is licensed for Civil Ceremonies. I have only visited the house as a tourist so can't comment first hand on service etc. or as a conference or event venue. But it has a good reputation locally, albeit at a price: wedding packages here start around £140 per guest (up to 140 with a marquee), but it'd be a pretty memorable!

They have their own audio visual, IT, production and post production facilities and a digital lounge which you can hire to show screenings. There's also conference rooms, a more relaxed meeting area with leather sofas and training studios where you can run workshops and seminars. I went there on Saturday night to see the films they were showing as part of the annual White Night festival and have to say whilst I wasn't blown away by the quality of the 4 films I watched, I thought the space and concept was great.

I saw what was probably the worst film I have ever seen here, but that's not giving the Lighthouse the credit it deserves. It is a wonderful place that offers both performance and training. The building is modern and clean and there is a small downstairs bar where you can congregate before, or after performances. Okay, so the film I saw was dire, but that was just bad luck. The Lighthouse offers an insight into Brighton's creative side that you might not always know exists. Yes there are bands and painters, but the performing arts are often overlooked. I strongly advise checking the listings and giving this place a go. I gave it a go and although I didn't enjoy the particular performance, I am so glad I know places like Lighthouse exist.

Hotel Pelirocco is a fantastic choice for a unique stay while in Brighton…read more Close to the ocean & Brighton Pier, it's also w/in walking distance to The Lanes (shopping / music venues) The neighborhood is quiet and hopping at the same time. Lots of people out & about & the downstairs bar was packed but up in my room, it was nice & quiet I scored the Pressure Sounds room w/ its Reggae theme. Turns out the phone in the room just so happened to be exact phone Sis had while we were growing up....awww, nostalgia! Bed was on a springy frame which made it almost like staying at camp - but it was comfy nonetheless. Wicker chair in the corner, gaming console w/ the tv & great smelly bath products Staff is super-friendly & the downstairs bar is cozy-cool. Would def stay here again!

A regency guest-house two minutes from the sea-front, Hotel Pelirocco is easily Brighton's coolest and most distinctive hotel. Every room is individually themed and decorated by artists, designers or hip record labels like Rough Trade and Skint. I've stayed in the Absolut Love room (which was all red velvet curtains and a heart-shaped bed), the Hysteric Glamour room (which was all provocative neon and black bedding) and the Leah Bowery room (which was a shrine to the cult performance artist). All of them were great and I'd happily go back and stay in the Pressure Sounds room (Lee Scratch Perry wallpaper apparently!), the Muhammed Ali rom (with boxing ring paint) and the Betty Page Boudoir - if only I had the bling or a free invite... The bar is terrific and serves cooool cocktails til 1am Sun to Thurs and til 4am at weekends. The only disappointing thing is some of the rooms are sponsored by corporate companies and so there's product placements dotted everywhere around the hotel. I don't mind seeing Absolut bottles upcycled into chandeliers but Smint mints...

Sea gulls call and for a moment, you forget that you are at a work event and it's just you and the gentle bobbing of water under the deck at your feet. If you are looking for that absolutely unique event that people will be talking about for months, give TopSail Events a call. For corporate events, weddings or just a great social outing, book a cruise on a tall ship or river barge down the River Thames. Topsail handles it all for you. In fact- you can even go clay pigeon shooting on the Thames (who knew?). The food is top notch- appetizers served by friendly servers (they must love their jobs being outside on the water all day) and the desserts? Heavenly. The ship that I was on was a fully restored tall ship and you can bet that it was an unforgettable experience when the Tower Bridge had to open to let our ship sail under. Tourists on other boats and on the bridges took pictures of us as we sipped our champagne and nibbled on our tasty bites. Below deck is a full galley and a large room that can be furnished with tables if you are having a dinner, or sofas and conversation areas if it is cocktails only. There are also restrooms on board which are as nice as any I've seen. The cruise goes down river to Greenwich passing the Canary Wharf and other points of interest and then turns around with the finale being the opening of the Tower Bridge to let the ship through. TopSail events will work with your organization to make your night out the perfect experience but check out their website as they already have some great suggested packages set up. I've been to London many times . . . but never have I had the experience of taking a Tall Ship down the river with a glass of champagne in my hand. Truly a once in a lifetime event!

There are plenty of tables and seats and a few different choices of food on the menu (it varies from show to show). The bar is reasonably pricey but not over the top. The venue itself is an interesting layout with a bar area, the main stage area and a smaller room near the back, it is what it says it is - a basement, although it's very clean with laminated flooring and smells of fresh wood! The event I experienced is known as the 'Supper club' - a monthly show that contains various performances that can only be described as somewhat eccentric. There was a visual art performance using helium balloons, some acoustic musical performances and photocopier at the back where people could photocopy their body and then pin the pictures up next to their suitable category - 'non rude', 'rude' and 'explicit'. Need I go on?! The basement might not be everyone's cup of tea but it's certainly something different, a little quirky and light hearted but rather enjoyable if you're interested in the visual performance and art that Brighton has to offer, it's unquestionably a relaxing evening of entertainment.
