Main reason was that I can easily walk to and from the gym as it's close by to where I live. I've been impressed with not only the facilities but the service delivered by the staff as well from the membership consultant to reception and the trainers. They have a variety of classes on to suit everyone whether its Zumba, bodyattack or even the small group training sessions. When you sign up with them, you can either have 3 sessions with a personal trainer for $75 (Normally costs $180) or the fitness program which is free to new members and you get 3 sessions with a group floor instructor. I chose to go with the fitness program as I didn't want to spend money on a personal trainer and much rather have the alternate option which is the fitness program in which all they basically do is show you how to use all of the machines the correct way and other exercises you can do to build up strength as well as knowledge on what you start achieving your own personal goals. At the end of your workout when you feel tired and muscles are sore, they have both a 25 m indoor heated pool, 2 spa's and a sauna as well or you can just jump in the showers in the change rooms which are just as good. Probably only down side is that Fitness First are an expensive gym to join but I personally would recommend people to consider getting a membership as you won't regret it and they also have lots of other things they offer their members whether its free coffee and tea, free wifi and lots of other stuff.

I don't know why. I love exercise but always end up enjoying the uses of public places such as parks or the boardwalk at Teneriffe to release some serotonins instead. In saying this, I recently joined Healthworks On The River (yep, another wave of guilt) and so far, so good! The first thing I was pleased about was the price, which for me as a student is only $12.50 a week with no contract and only 2 weeks notice if I want out. This is amazing considering all the tacked on costs a lot of the larger gyms charge, not to mention the periods of time they lock you into the contracts. Another bonus is the location. Set right on the river at Teneriffe, it's pleasant just going to the gym knowing there's a beautiful view of the water, especially from the lap pool out the front. In terms of facilities, it's certainly not as ritzy as the bigger chain gyms. The equipment isn't the newest, and the touch screens are, well....a bit touchy. Sometimes they don't work at all. With this in mind it has everything you need for a work out. The group classes are great, but the timetable could definitely use some more Yoga classes in my opinion. Peak times can often be competitive for the equipment too, but that comes part and parcel with any gym in my experience. Healthworks does the job. If you are looking for a casual environment where you can train and work-out then it's fantastic. If you are looking for a high-end gym experience, it probably isn't the fitness centre for you.

This fast metabolism ain't lasting forever unless I work at it. So I've joined a gym. Now fitness ain't my thing. It never has been. But I'm trying. I figure if I commit to classes then I will go. Even if it's just once a week. So I've had a membership for.... seven days and I've been twice. I don't think that's too bad. The facilities are great. Split across two spaces across a walkway from each other, you've got the gym bit downstairs and a studio for classes in the other building. My first class was a core class. I feel I should be honest; I don't have a core. The class was hard, but I enjoyed it. I felt a bit unco, but that's natural (I feel like that 75% of the time) but the instructor was super helpful and I felt comfortable and relaxed. The next day (I know - crazy person) I did a spin and abs class. 35 minutes of spin (kill me) and 15 minutes of abs (kill me). The class was great. It was the same instructor as the day before which made me feel must more at ease. The spin part of the class was super hard but I was able to tailor it to my ability (low. It's low) and the abs part was a good end to the class. After the class, I spoke to the teacher about the possibly PT stuff and she was super supportive and helpful. It's nice to find a gym where I don't feel like an idiot for not being able to touch my toes (I actually can't btw!) I'll definitely be back for more classes and knowing I can go to any of their other gyms too is a total bonus.

Excellent group fitness timetable with great instructors. They have all my favourites (Sh'Bam, Bodyjam, Attack, Balance etc) and their Go Girl Room is huge. Just be careful in the ladies bathroom - I do not know how many times I have walked into the mirrored wall!! :)

I miss it me and mum went there a lot when Lewis and Markus were there. I have good memories of there when disability people came and all different age groups and how the staff taylor made comfortable exercises for variety of needs and very inclusive minded even when the rain came down hard you watch the tv screens and if anything I think they should have put in some tables and a toaster and jug, as I been to a lot of gyms and found the ones that fostered more social and healthy eating areas appeared to be working better as a place to meet friends. I think gyms should be subsidised by govt for pensioners, people who need rehab and depression and other illness and even unemployed to get Australia healthy again and less obesity because prevention is better then the cure. I think this would be great initiative as well as church dance hall nights and movie pick up buses like my dad and his sister had in 1950s here for a govt to consider over night clubs. Get people healthy again. I did do some night clubbing but once I found chelseys body bar at capalaba in 2002 I gave it up.

Not the biggest gym but a great use of space with adequate facilities, music and air conditioning usually on. This gym is 24 hours with key you receive when joining, feels safe going after hours. Only problem I find is the lack of free weights, I would say due the liability of somebody damaging themselves whilst unmanned. There are no classes but heaps of ultra modern machines kept in good working order.

What I want from a gym is a great range of classes, friendly staff and the option to visit gyms in other locations. Fitness First is delivering all of these, as a national and international chain. The Elizabeth St Platinum gym is my 'home gym', and let me tell you it is something special. Spread over four floors this new mecca of health and fitness has everything any gym junkie could want - a large range of free standing and machine weights, cardio equipment, sauna and steam room and of course studios for classes. My first class was sh'bam - it's kind of like Zumba, but much more gentle and fun. The instructor was pretty cool and we had fun. There's even a disco ball in the studio! Being a premium gym I expected it to be full of scary glamazons but it wasn't. Loads of people of all shapes and sizes were there making me feel like just one of the crowd rather than a fail whale. I have a good feeling that my membership won't be going to waste.

Can't even complete a workout due to long waiting times and weights being left around. Change rooms are constantly left a mess and not one bit of privacy. Will not be returning.
