Randomly found this place. Very happy I did. Good selection, friendly service and all the records are well taken care of.

Haven't been here in here in years, I do kno when I did frequent the shop, twas pound for pound the best selection in the South bay * A very tidy place, it never had the typical overwhelming layout, in the way of EVERY record shop spanning the globe. Everything was accessible, which made browsing more pleasant . I would be here at least twice a week some years ago, which reminds me I need to stop by soon. . read more

A great local spot to buy albums! Owner is cool and the place has a great Zen feel (and smell) to it. I bought 7 albums, all used and all were VG+ to M condition. I watched Erving hand clean a couple while I shopped and was very impressed with the care he took to deliver the best possible product. I will definitely be back! Kudos Erving :-) read more

I finally got to go to a real record store with vinyl! This place is filled w/ all kinds of music in just the 1st 20 or so records I saw 5 that I used to have in H/S! Mr Johnson was friendly knowledgeable & helpful! A really cool guy! I got 5 albums 4 an amazing price & will definitely go back when I'm in the area! Pretty good selection of records and most of them are in great shape. Cool owner is, well, cool prices are pretty good too!

Erving is great - he knows Jazz and Blues and Soul really well - he was a DJ, and all the records he sells are in very good to mint condition, AND he cleans them before he puts them in the bins. In his one dollar bins, he sometimes has really good stuff too that you would pay top dollar for at a store in LA. He is selective, so he does not sell crappy garage sale records. HIs records are in the same good condition as an excellent record store like Rockaway Records and Record Surplus, BUT you are not paying the high price those stores set bec of their rent and the trendy neighborhood. The record stores in LA - their prices have really gotten out of control. They might want 30 bucks for a record in LA, but it will be half that price at PM Sounds, unless it is really rare. I would say he has the best Jazz collection of any store in LA - if you are looking for Jazz and don't want to pay a lot of money, go to PM Sounds, you will get something good and not deplete your entire bank account as you will at some other LA record stores. Very cool vinyl store. Nice selection of jazz and r&b with some nice vintage high end stereo equipment available. Very clean store, no musty or dusty here. Owner Erving takes great pride in his inventory and store, and is very knowledgeable regarding his stock. Highly recommended by this professional musician and audiophile. read more

I've been to hundreds of record stores, all over the united states, and and have been collecting for over 50 years (52,000 LP's, current count), and I'll cut right to the chase here: PM Sounds is THEE best record store of its type that I've EVER been to! It's a small store....but....the QUALITY, and the TASTE that owner Erv has on display is second to none. I find records, and artists, there that I don't see anywhere else...and the quality of his offerings, from the condition of the outer LP jacket, to the condition of the vinyl record inside, is superb. The 'main' attraction here is Jazz, but yes, he does have a really nice selection of all other genres. Every time I visit this store, I encounter new findings, and again, always in super good condition. Erv is a very personable, low-key guy, and he's generous in his knowledge of these recordings. He also has a section of used Hi-Fi gear for sale there, so check that out...and, the walls are 'museum quality' in terms of music/recording/art decor around the place. Super good store, and as easy of a recommendation as I can give. Five stars is the limit I can give here, but if they had more to give, I'd give them! lol read more

This is my secret GEM! where can I start. I dig for records around the world, and have to say Erving has the cleanest record store on Earth. The records are never dusty you can eat off the floor. As for his selection...A. All genres here and in great shape. Ive walked out with some amazing stuff from Hardcore Techno, Golden Age Hip Hop, some Wes Montgomery, and the list goes on. We are so fortunate that such a wonderful record store like PM Sounds still exists..!!!! A beyond 5-Star rating is well deserved. Shopping at PM Sounds is nothing short of a blissful experience, such a cool vibe. I found it so refreshing that Erv the owner is so passionate about the music and so dedicated and devoted in keeping the vinyl experience alive and well. His knowledge is amazing, especially in regards to Jazz and the service is always stella! The prices can't be beat (so fair), the quality of the records stocked are outstanding (buy with confidence) and the selection is overwhelming. Where ever you live.. the drive is worth it. Funny, there's a vinyl record shop just a few miles from my house, but I rarely go there because the total experience at PM Sounds has totally spoiled me. In short, there is no better record store in Los Angeles (TO PURCHASE HIGH QUALITY VINYL AT GREAT PRICES WITH AMAZING SERVICE), maybe even all of SoCal. Love this place. I always make it a point to stop in when I get back into town. It's a vinyl shopping experience the way it I like it. Great energy, good music being played, meaty selection, and the owner Erving is very kind and offers up some good conversation. He's a true music lover and knows his history. I can always guarantee that any record I pick up is going to be real clean if not mint. I've found some gems in here whether it be classic rock, old school hip hop, R&B, etc. Some cool memorabilia up on the wall too. And if you need stereo equipment (turntable, receiver, speakers) it's definitely worth stopping in to see what's in store. read more

Excellent place to buy records! The owner has always been the one to help me in this store. I'm not sure if he has any other workers. He has only the highest quality records and the majority are of Jazz. He has other genres such as rock and pop, but if you're looking for something specific and high quality in the Jazz genre, look here. He also sells equipment such as record players and speakers--used and new. He was very willing to help me start my collection. As an experienced collector, he didn't look down on me for knowing absolutely nothing, he actually seemed excited to teach me a few things. I highly recommend PM sounds to anyone. read more
