Dr. Freecloud's is one of OC's OG record shops and has been in the game for 30+ years! This spot is located in the same plaza as Savers where there is a good amount of parking spots. Inside, they have a pretty big store with tons of crates to dig through. Their selection is organized by different genres and artists. They also have a clearance section which has some great scores too. The records here are definitely priced fairly and all of the staff are friendly and welcoming. I browsed around for a good 25-30 minutes and was able to score on a Laufey and a Gunna vinyl (yes, my music taste is random but also immaculate). It's always great to discover a new record store, especially one that's been around awhile (1994) and have it right next door to a stellar sushi restaurant (Satoshi), wow! Two for one action! I simply had to go inside, the wonderful lady behind the counter let me check out a sealed collectable record (Miles Davis Sketches Of Spain),and right when I was trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger, my gf came in to say our table was ready next door. Collector Tip: Discdogs can be an invaluable way to quickly research what record you are holding in your hands. In this case it could have been one of two variations from 1964 or 1965. It also helps establish what a fair price is for that particular record, pending condition, and so on. You can also add records into your collection after setting up an account, which is very helpful. I came back for Record Store Day (RSD) on Saturday, July 17th but too late to get anything on my list. Nevertheless, they're clean and the lovely smell of used records hangs in the air. Current releases on vinyl are also available in separate sections from the used records. The most valuable items are on the shelves behind the counter. All-in-all, a great shop! read more

This is Ron D Core's record store!!! Ron D Core is quite possibly the biggest name in happy hardcore/hardcore. Especially if you grew up in the 90's. Now... This record store is awesome!! A little bit of everything. New releases, some rare finds, classics, full lps and even some singles. FYI.. they have some Dj essentials. Ron and his wife run the store and they are always willing to help and are super welcoming. I picked up a shirt last time around, and I can't wait to wear it in my next vinyl gig. read more

What a great fine. Crazy selection everything from impossible to find vintage to current new mofi stuff. I even found a Pink Floyd record. I didn't know about. This is a clean, well-organized record store with a good variety of genre. It carries new and used vinyl, as well as a very small selection of used CDs. There's also a DJ corner inside the store so I'm guessing it has guest DJs doing events. I didn't see a huge selection in any one genre but did notice a good selection of used vinyl for 80s stuff, specifically new wave. This is definitely up my alley so I spent quite a bit of time looking through this section. Most of the items were $9.99 and seemed to be in good condition. I ended up buying an album by Missing Persons and Sparks. Service was good, and I was greeted when I walked in. read more

A bright, clean, and organized record store with friendly staff. The pros: It's always a bonus when a record store has a parking lot so you're not spending a lot of time searching for street parking. The store itself has plenty of space to accommodate lots of shoppers, and the records are organized by popular new, popular used, rare finds, and sub genres. Decent amount of merch too. They had a DJ spinning while I was there. Cons: Some bins are hard to leaf through because they're packed so tight. Suppose some might see that as a pro alluding to it meaning they have a hefty inventory. I bought an item from the rare finds but when I brought it home, the records were so dusty it required a lot of brushing and a wet clean. Made me wonder if they don't do a courtesy cleaning before pricing items and putting them in the bins. It's a nice shop. If I'm ever in OC again, I'll be sure to make my way back. read more

This record store has some of the greatest finds ever! BUT... Older Asian lady was super stereotyping me and my partner (both Mexican). I walked in today to browse and the whole time I was being watched. I couldn't walk to fast or else she would make a noise to make sure I knew I was being watched. I was in with my partner and even they said they felt her watching us. As we were walking out she stood up from the counter and said something to us and rolled her eyes. We could tell she didn't mean well at all. I usually come here and don't have a bad time when a nice gentlemen is working but today I felt really judged and it wasn't a nice feeling. I might check in to see whatever product Ron and Helen happen to be selling on any given day. They're especially professional and disciplined owners. If a customer has a request or even an implied preference, I've seen Helen act immediately to place the right vinyl in the right hands. The same can be said of Ron (aka Ron D. Core). I've had constructive and worthwhile conversations with Helen; she is exceptionally knowledgeable on the topic of EDM, and she tends to have the entire inventory of the store memorized. Ron has shared some comparably valuable opinions on music and vinyl too. The layout alone gets 5 stars from me. Freecloud's likely has one of the most nuanced breakdowns of record by genre I have seen. They have got a house section, a tribal house section, a progressive house section, a disco section, an electro section...I could go on because Freecloud's inventory does not seem to stop. The Rare Dance music section gets a big nod from me. Some stores actually secret their rare vinyl in with the rest of the inventory in an effort to keep customers in the store longer. (As if that's the only way to organize records). I appreciate Freecloud's more direct and less manipulative angle on selling vinyl. The listening stations (plural) are well maintained. I enjoyed testing out records on them, and that experience--who-would-have-thought?--made me want to stay in the store longer. Quality always wins, and Freecloud's combines a high quality product with exemplary customer service. The vinyl is enough to keep me coming back though. Good EDM records are easy to dig up at Freecloud's. The pricing at Freecloud's is very fair, and the vast majority of their used House music is a bargain. I got several house and Italo disco records for approx. half the lowest listed price on Discogs, which should not be the sole guide for prices; people online can dream up whatever price they like. Freecloud's is the last record store standing for a reason. It's one of the best there is because it was one of the best there was. I hope to move my body back to Freecloud's in the near future. This is a must-visit every time I visit family in Huntington Beach. Today I left with some Way Out West, Rabbit In the Moon, BT, 29 Palms, Lexicon Avenue remix of Seal and soooo much more. I love this place, they had something for my classic rock loving father in law, as well as a ton of great electronic for myself. I might have to swing back to pickup a Michael Jackson picture disc I saw, but figuring I already exceeded my "allowed" allotment..... I wouldn't push the budget boundary. I usually leave with some awesome deals and today was not any different. The people who run the place are fantastic, the same cool lady is there every visit and knows the music scene well. Got my 13 yr old son, a record player for Christmas. Today, we found this record shop, and we have decided to do our music shopping HERE ...til the end of time! Walking thru the doors, we were greeted by the kindest man, behind the counter. I truly enjoy being able to browse, with nobody hovering over you and yet ready to answer questions or help locate items, if need be. The hub and I had seen this store dozens of times, but never had the time to stop in.... until today! What a crazy, fun blast-from-the-past record store. Even the feel of "r-e-c-o-r-d s-t-o-r-e" from my lips is so foreign nowadays. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and then I started to nerd out. The layout is exactly like the old places: Big Ben's, Licorice Pizza, etc. Categories, sections, genres made me wish I had a rolling stool to browse every freakin' category for days! Just move on down the line. I found a few records from my teen years. Elton John: 11-17-70; Peter Frampton: Frampton Comes Alive. So many others. I would have bought 'em if I didn't already have em. Hub bought The 77's: Ping Pong Over the Abyss. Prices are amazing, too! I shot a text to my retro friend (we old!). He said "Shut up! Records don't exist anymore!" (we need to get out more). Always friendly and always something new to discover. I was very impressed with the owner when my 9-year old daughter asked him for what song is currently playing. That record was not in stock so he inquired what other music she likes. He answered patiently all her questions and showed her where she can find what she's looking for. Long story short: she was treated just like a regular customer. I never experienced this before and thought this was extraordinary. Ho-hum shop with everything that didn't sell from 1970s and 1980s. No AC so get ready to pass out. (((Despite owners claim below, I was at the store at 2pm on a Saturday, well during store hours, and part of my poor experience was the stifling heat of this store.))) Lots of electronic from 1990-2006. Super confusing layout, section for rock, separate section for new wave, another separate section for synth rock, separate section for punk, another separate section for new, and yet another separate section for "rare". Way too many potential places to look for the same band. If you like searching records, you get the feeling that nothing here is really fresh.
