My Experience with Temple Mortgage (Reynard Boyce) -- Norfolk, VA…read moreI became aware of Temple Mortgage through a local podcast featuring Reynard Boyce. Based on that appearance, my wife and I decided to use his services for a DSCR investment property loan. Upon visiting his office at 440 Monticello Ave, Suite 1850, Norfolk VA, I noticed the workspace was very small. Throughout our interactions, Mr. Boyce frequently referenced his 30 years in the banking industry. During the loan process I experienced several significant concerns: Loan complexity: The DSCR loan process through Temple Mortgage was more difficult and time-consuming than expected for a straightforward investment property transaction. Cybersecurity incident: Mr. Boyce's computer system was compromised during our transaction. I was not notified of this breach in a timely manner. As a result, I nearly wired my down payment to a fraudulent account. Fortunately, the title company had not yet processed the wire and the situation was resolved -- not through any action by Mr. Boyce, but through the intervention of another party's legal counsel who was contacted that evening. Mr. Boyce's response to the near-loss of my down payment did not reflect the level of urgency I expected given the severity of the situation. Missed closing: Due to delays in the loan process I missed my originally scheduled closing date. I have not missed a closing on any prior real estate transaction. Fees above market rate: At closing I discovered the broker fee charged was significantly higher than the standard 1-2% typically charged by mortgage brokers in the Hampton Roads market. This fee level was not clearly communicated to me prior to closing and only became apparent when I reviewed the HUD closing statement. Appraisal refund: I was verbally told at closing that I would receive a refund for an appraisal overpayment. That refund was not issued for approximately 30 days and was only processed after I submitted a formal written demand letter. Based on my experience I would not use Temple Mortgage again and would not recommend them to others. I have documentation supporting each of the above statements.
