Beware of false representation of a licensed contractor!…read more We hired Down 2 Earth Landscaping for a large backyard project involving concrete coating, gravel, rock installation, stepping stones, and other exterior work. The experience was one of the most stressful and unprofessional contractor experiences we have ever had. Most importantly: as of today, we were unable to locate any active Arizona Registrar of Contractors license for this business or the individual representing himself as the contractor, despite repeated searches and direct verification attempts with the Arizona ROC. We repeatedly asked for proof of licensing and did not receive it. Consumers should verify licensing for themselves before signing anything or paying deposits. We will certainly verify in the future.  The problems throughout this project were extensive: * Concrete coating developed cloudy white discoloration after rain shortly after application * Finish appearance did not match what was discussed or expected * High-gloss sealer was used despite our request for matte * Concrete splatter and dents were left on painted stucco walls * Outdoor faucet hardware was damaged during the project * Rock color installed was dramatically different from what we requested * Multiple corrections and redirects were needed due to poor communication and lack of oversight * We were charged while still dealing with unresolved workmanship concerns * Communication became defensive, dismissive, and at times openly disrespectful when concerns were raised Rather than taking accountability, the response was largely blame-shifting and gaslighting. Concerns were minimized instead of professionally addressed, and we were made to feel like the problem for asking for basic quality and clarity on a very expensive project. Homeowners: please do your homework, verify licensing independently through the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and proceed with extreme caution.

I hired him through Networks and paid half dollar amount of the discussed project upfront  on 6/1/21. He told me he wanted to get the job we agreed on done within two days. Today is 7/26/21 - two month later - and he did not even finish half of the discussed work. Many times he told me to be at my house to continue the project and he did not only not show up, but he did not even tell me he would not come,- he just did not show up. So many times I had arranged my schedule to be at the job site and then he would just not appear. Strangely he texted me often about his whereabouts though, that he "came home late, will be driving out tonight, just got back last night...car accident, a relative passed away..."  stuff that I am really not happy about to be text - harassed with and not interested to know about, - even about his wife's medical condition he told me,- I find him extremely unprofessional. He told me he would take the trash out of the backyard after every day of work, because it would not be nice to do otherwise, but Paul left the trash ( his plastic drinking cups with straws in them, empty water bottles in our back yard on the ground, rocks and cement pieces ) from a job left half undone in our backyard for nineteen!! days. The trash laying there for so long caused a few big brown holes in our green grass. Network asked me to write a review at a time by which the project should have been finished. So I had written a one star review a few weeks in after Paul had collected half of the dollar amount for the entire job but not really gotten much done yet. A few days later he called me at 6:00am! very upset about the review although everything in it had been nothing but the truth. He did not take the responsibility for his actions at all. I decided to delete the review in order to give him a second chance. That had been a bad idea, because his behavior got even worse. After I told him very friendly that I did not want to receive anymore personal texts about his whereabouts, but just about work related things, he all over sudden informed me that he did not want to do a certain job we had agreed on, and parts of that job, he even tried to delegate to me. Not a man of his word, not reliable, not respectful, unfortunately not taking responsibility for his own actions. I should have seen it coming when he rang my doorbell 30 minutes before our first appointment, informing me he was here earlier, because he was in the area, laughing insecurely. It had been a very unpleasant experience to me, but I admit I am partly responsible, because I continued to trust him.

The owner (Nick) and his staff all had exceptional customer service- they answered every question I had and were very knowledgeable. They were even able to do the service while we were away at work and took before/after photos as well.
