They sent someone to find us and "lead the way" which took almost an hour, and we were charged $83! And we tipped the driver $24. My husband accidentally spilled a glass of wine on his robe and the bed, apologized repeatedly, we were charged approximately $80! We were forced to take our dinners there because of the location being so remote and had absolutely no say in what we ate. Almost inedible food!! Veal veal veal. AND We were charged about $350! They managed to increase our bill by one third or more. We were NOT happy. We would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. It may Be quaint, but not worth being overcharged for sure.

The rooms are located in a 13th-century farmhouse, and come with terracotta floors and wooden beams on the ceilings. There are 12 rooms in the boutique hotel. The location of the hotel is very special since it is located in between Pienza and Montepulciano with marvelous Chianti scenery. The Santo Pietro's well-tended gardens feature several patio areas, furnished with tables and chairs. The pool is surrounded by padded-teak deck chairs, tables, and parasols. The public areas of the hotel is very relaxing, the small pool area is also helpful to rest under the Tuscan sun... Most of the service people are very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast is not bad with variety of freshly baked cakes, croissants and tarts. The dinner that we had at its restaurant was perfect. We had true Tuscan food with fresh vegetables, delicious meat with perfect wine. There are many people who only came for lunch and dinner. The rooms are very clean, the towels are soft and the amenities such as soap, shampoo and body lotion are special Tuscanian products. However there are some negative issues with the rooms. First, the hotel faces a busy traffic road and it was very hard to sleep since it is impossible to open the windows because of the noise. Although the rooms were nicely decorated, there was not a mirror in the room and there is only one chair. Therefore there is not a place to put your staff in the room. The other problem was the coverage of the wifi. It is not possible to use it in the rooms and pool area. Although it was a bit pricey we had very nice time at Tenuta Santo Pietro.

We returned on my birthday for dinner and arrived an hour early. No problem, the waiter was overjoyed to see us and we asked to sit outside on a gorgeous evening with a light breeze. The weather set the tone and we ordered a glass of Barbi's vermentino which was served within 30 seconds. (There was only one other table of diners, who, as it turned out had ordered about 6 cases of Barbi's wines and decided to celebrate their acquisition by eating dinner too!) We asked when their wine shop was closing and were told ten minutes. We promptly rose, took our glasses with us and visited the shop where we purchased a few bottles to take home. While this is primarily a review about the restaurant it bears mentioning that Barbi's Brunellos are made in the traditional style with lots of terroir. Not fruit forward and highly alcoholic like the modern style. We love their wines and on this night after we sat down again we ordered a 1999 Brunello to enjoy with dinner. It was stunning and drinking perfectly. We were given an amuse bouche to start the evening, a wonderful gazpacho like creation, served cold. I started with a special, a tagliatelle pasta with fresh porcini mushrooms. I cannot remember when I had last had fresh porcinis, they always seem to be dried. The dish was so incredible, so perfectly balanced and flavorful that I literally had tears in my eyes. No lie. And I went perfectly with the Brunello. And now a sidebar for all the wine fanatics out there. The wine service was the most complicated, most detailed I have ever seen. Sure, you've seen wine decanted. Over a candle, yes. But before that, the waiter removed the top of the capsule. Then he made another cut a little ways down and almost all around the bottle but just enough left to pull up the capsule to form a ring into which he put the cork after he opened the wine. Yes the cork was like a finger and the capsule was like its ring. Crazy. Of course we were fascinated and even though I was thirsty, i could wait for this. He decanted. He used napkins. He wiped. He said it would be ready in ten minutes. Arrrrggh, i want it now! He came back, poured it, and wow it was worth the wait! Anyways the main courses were wonderful. Veal cheek and pork loin wrapped in bacon with more porcinis. Veal cheek was fork tender and full of flavor. The pork was too. Plates were cleaned! The only misstep was dessert. The custard had broken and resembled scrambled eggs. While it tasted good, it didn't look good. It was spread over baked apples - yum - and there were lovely meringue tepees all around. Stupendous place. I highly recommend it, hopefully you can go in wild boar season which I think is later in the year.

Service by everyone was exemplary. We were here on an arranged tour (via V Sattui Winery) and visited many towns and wineries, had great food and wine, all mostly within a one-hour bus ride, with maybe a couple a little longer. We also enjoyed comradery and beverages at night with our tour mates. The service, room and surroundings were just beyond excellent.

I sort of hate to write this review because I don't want the secret to get out about this place…read more Suite D'Artista is phenomenal in every way! It's like having your own private flat in the gorgeous Tuscan hill town of Montalcino! We rented the smallest guest room, the Basilè, for two nights. It was absolutely beautiful! This room is tucked away from the main area so you have a little private garden and gazebo right outside your front door. (See my photos, including the picture of the view from the front door)! The flat was tastefully decorated in a modern style with furnishings from Ikea. The room had a weird layout but it worked and was perfect for us. Internet was free, and the in-room refrigerator was stocked with a few essentials. The kitchenette was nice as well (a basket of snacks was also provided, as was an in-room Nespresso espresso machine). The bathroom was modern and outfitted with pretty travertine stone. A rainfall shower head and large soaking tub completed the room and made for a relaxing time. It also impressed me how the owner thought of EVERYTHING -- our room had wine glasses, a bottle opener, paper towels, plates, a cheese knife, candles and matches....it was amazing. Everything you could possibly want or need was in the room! The windows opened easily for fresh air and the a/c unit worked great. The property is very quiet and in an old neighborhood. I loved being surrounded by the brick houses and had fun watching the locals (and their dogs) go about their everyday lives. There are several fruit trees and an herb garden (guests were welcome to pick and eat the fruit and use the fresh herbs), a grill, and a washing machine that you can use for 5 Euros per load (no dryer, you could hang your clothes on the clothesline in the courtyard). The property is at the bottom of a very steep hill. You can walk into town but the direct route is up a flight of VERY steep stairs. We needed the workout, but older folks should be aware of this. There's also a longer way to walk into town but it's still uphill and may prove difficult for some. Montalcino is a quiet, sleepy little town and is absolutely gorgeous. It really feels like you are in some sort of fairy tale movie! The owner, Lisa, is a true gem. She is SO kind, caring and considerate. She is a wonderful proprietor and gave us great suggestions on things to do in the area. She welcomed us like members of the family and helped us when we needed her (yes, even when our car got STUCK on one of the town's hilly streets late at night -- she came to our rescue). Her demeanor was always SUPER positive and wonderful, I can't say enough about her and her property. She is one of the most genuine, kind people I have ever met anywhere in the world. The biggest negative is this: the property is located within the old city walls. We had a rental car and driving is NOT easy. First off, the property is VERY difficult to find and the narrow streets are VERY difficult to navigate. In fact, the only reason I'd hesitate to stay here again is the driving. It is so stressful and parking is tough too. There's a very tiny lot attached but it fits only 3 cars; when it's full, you must find parking on the street out front. If you are not comfortable driving on VERY narrow and hilly streets (I mean SUPER NARROW, we got our car stuck a few times) and one-way / dead end streets, you might not be comfortable here. I don't want to dissuade anyone from staying at this property because it is so nice, but the driving is super difficult and people should be aware of that. I can't wait to return to Montalcino. I will definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. It's one of the greatest guest houses in the world.

While it is hard to be too far away from unbelievable food & wine if you are staying within the walls of Montalcino, what set Suite d'Artista apart for us was the fantastic advice, suggestions and conversations with the proprietors, Lisa & Andrea; I can only imagine how many times they must have to answer the same questions to the "first timers," but they clearly love their city and are eager to share the gems in and around Montalcino. On top of spot on suggestions for restaurants and local vineyards, Lisa recommended a great one day cooking class that is still paying dividends for us here at home... The suite was super unique in its layout, had more than enough room for two, and came equipped with all the basics needed to handle breakfast. To state the obvious, the food is soooo good in Montalcino that it makes it hard prepare your own food. It was very private, clean and peaceful. Lisa & Andrea... Sorry we lost track of time and took so long to share our experience with our stay to Suite d'Artista. We cannot wait to make it back there!
