Big fan of Poet & the Bench since they first opened their doors in Mill Valley. A wonderful creative space beautifully curated to combine original art, stunning jewelry, and artisanal ceramics as well as a little modern vintage and original gift items. My most recent find was a porcelain bowl by Lisa Fleming, who creates her own original glazes. Owners Bonnie & Jeffrey Levin create a warm and welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike. I was on a retreat in Mill Valley and some of the women couldn't stop talking about getting permanent bracelets... to memorialize the trip. I know the permanent bracelet trend is all over the place right now, but something about THIS particular time in my life felt... worthy of a bracelet. Some other retreat friends and I visited The Poet And The Bench a day or so later, and both owners remembered the gal's names that started the "look what we got!" trend! These 2 (Jeffrey and Bonnie!) could not have been lovelier and even offered to take a photo to send to me (my phone had died). Permanent bracelets are pricey. Mine was almost $300- 1/2 was for the actual 14k gold bracelet and the other 1/2 was for the teensy weensy diamond heart charm I chose. But I honestly love it! I look down and remember so fondly my time in Mill Valley The store is like an L- there's actual 2 entrances: one on the Main Street and one down a sweet little alley nook. It's curated by artists and well represented with small signs saying the artist, where they're from and a small bit about the collection/artform. Thanks for making my memory of this trip PERMANENT! It is very rare that you find a shop that is so beautifully curated with local artists and their amazing stories, ethically sourced and environmentally conscious products and delightful and passionate shop owners. Every corner of the shop has amazing pieces from jewelry to ceramics, sculptures and art, to textiles and fragrances I found unusual pieces that I've never seen elsewhere. Why? Why do shops like this continue to exist? Everything in here looks like it belongs in a toddler's bedroom. But it has an adult pricetag on it. The dumbing down of Marin culture needs to end. This isn't the 1980s folks - we aren't desperate to buy any odd fun looking thing that ends up donated to the charity shop. We aren't stupid. This has to be quite seriously the most unserious business in Mill Valley. You folks need to find more meaningful work. You can do better - don't be afraid to break a sweat. read more

Was in the neighborhood... And rediscovered "the poet and the bench" at a fabulous new address....It's bigger, it's better, it's quite fabulous, actually. I have to admit, I love rings... most especially deigns that are delicate, unique, and flattering. That's my "go to" when I wander into this Mill Valley treasure trove. Seriously, when I walked into the new store I was gob smacked. Not only was the store bigger-it's taken on a new image with fabulous art hanging on the walls. Best new discovery! This shop has the most elegant and refined collection of designers. The owners are super knowledgeable, warm and friendly. Interesting creative couple. Great convo! The range of jewelry--super edgy and bold statement pieces to stunning stacking bands and custom/bespoke designs to everyday wearable. I covet so much of the home goods--the pottery, pillows, blankets and OMG gorgeous cookware. Oh and the vintage is really nicely edited. Found some sipping tequila glasses for a wedding gift but I might keep them! Ha. read more

Stopped at this store on my way home for work because a friend told me that they can make custom jewerly. The store just closed for the day but the owner was still there. I just wanted to ask a question to see if they could help. I waved at the owner who promptely came to the window. I motioned TRHOUGH THE WINDOW that I had a quick question, and he never bothered to open the door or even make an effort to be polite, he just wanted me to talk through the window. I had to show my tahitian pearl that I just got in Tahiti 2 weeks ago, from the sidewalk and through the window!!! I asked if he does jewerly and even though I could see through the window, that he had lots of jewerly, he told me that he doesn't deal with jewerly. I realized that he just closed, but politeness usually goes a long way. I was interested to see if he could create some jewerly with my pearl but I'm going to bring my business somewhere else. Love at first sight! Ever since Jeff and Bonnie opened Poet and the Bench I've been smitten with everything they so carefully curate at their beautiful store. They've continued to expand the artists they showcase and always include unique designs in all price ranges. I'll go in to look for a gift and then see something I can't live without. I brought in a broken opal bracelet from my dad that had been kicking around in my jewelry box for years. This piece means a lot to me, and I'd been waiting for the perfect jeweler to help me wear it again. I don't usually wear bracelets and thought for sure there was a better way to showcase the opals. Jeff suggested turning it into a stunning long necklace. Voila! He turned a very sentimental piece into something simply gorgeous. I am extremely happy. Not only do they create beautiful jewelry at Poet and/the Bench, but they also have a very modern and unique selection from different artists (each with a cool backstory that makes their work more meaningful).
