I found their items really cute and unique, which makes this even more disappointing. Unfortunately, the staff was very rude and unwelcoming during my visit. One of the women working there made us especially uncomfortable--she kept following us around and watching us as if we were stealing. There was no smile, no greeting, and overall just a very unfriendly atmosphere. When I mentioned at the end that a more welcoming attitude toward customers would go a long way, she seemed completely indifferent. Update: The experience got worse--the staff didn't even bother to properly wrap a candle, and by the time I got home, it was already broken. After reading other reviews on Yelp, I realized this doesn't seem like a one-off situation. I rarely write reviews anymore unless a business warrants one through exceptional service or the polar opposite of that. Folio falls in the latter category. We live in the neighborhood and love supporting our local businesses, but the few times I have been in this store left me wondering why I even try supporting a business that clearly doesn't want me shopping there. Today was the last time I will ever step foot in this store again. No greeting, just a hand reaching for the merchandise I was trying to buy. No thank you, either. Seriously, why have a shop if you can't be bothered offering any kind of basic customer service? People wonder why brick and mortar stores are dying...well, this is the reason. read more

I have to agree with the yelp reviewers that stated the customer service is poor at Folio. The sales lady made me feel like she suspected me of attempted theft. Give me a break! I like the merchandise at Folio, and love their window displays. I still have a cute tray to hold a mask I purchased during C19. Folio is a gem of fine things along with a real sense of humor. It's unique in that it hangs a bit on the risqué side which is rare and welcome. The owner is especially warm and amusing. The employees are quite helpful, efficient and friendly. I like going in this store. read more

My first time in Folio. I smiled and laughed the whole time. why? The cards are incredible and love to push the envelope of something on the edge of being appropriate. There were at least a handful of people in the store, and not one of them greeted me or offered any assistance or guidance through the store. I felt extremely out of place. Delightful assortment of affordable greeting cards, candles, notebooks and other eclectic stationary. Stopped by with the intention of maybe buying one card for my mom. Was excited by the farm doors, the animal print mugs and Thanksgiving gifts near the entrance. It was all over when I encountered the beautiful leather bound notebooks featuring a variety of quotes. The notebooks were next to beautiful box of handmade paper and envelopes. My mom needs the box! My husband found me my favorite BarrB soap. Needed that too. How about a collection of handmade California cards? Yep... need those too. Hard to resist the assortment! Am happy I don't know anyone getting married, as there was a whole section for brides... including tiaras. The owner, Alex, gift wrapped my mom's present. She is very welcoming. One of the better gift shops in all of Marin. Folio is truly a unique boutique! My mom introduced me to this store a while back. It's always been her go-to store for when she needs a b-day or housewarming gift. They boast everything from elegant stationary to scented candles to decorative pillows and picture frames. I most recently got a photo frame from them for my living room. It really stands out. And it wasn't too expensive either. The shop is conveniently located on Magnolia Ave. in Larkspur, one of my favorite streets in Marin (so many cute stores, restaurants, and coffee shops). However, depending on the time of day, parking can be a bit challenging. All in all, if you're on the hunt for a gift for this holiday season, Folio is certainly worth a visit (followed by a cappuccino at nearby Rulli's Cafe)! read more

Folio is hands down the best gift, cards, and custom stationery store in Marin! Every time I go in, customers are cracking up at the greeting cards Alex picks out, or finding cute little gifts. Succulent-shaped candles?! Gorgeous frames?! Birthday party decor (seriously though, check out the birthday party decor its EPIC)?! Check, check and check. I've never gone in and not found something for an occasion I needed a gift for-- especially housewarmings (which are so hard to find!) They also have the most extensive collection of custom paper, invitations, calligraphy, embossing... you name it, they have it. I remember going into their old location with my mom to do birthday invitations and stationery when I was little, and now I'm going there for my wedding invitations. On the topic of invites and custom paper goods, it's so nice to be able to go into a store and touch and feel the paper and typography for such an important occasion. Alex has been in the business for over 20 years, and knows everything these is to know about custom invites-- she really is a wealth of knowledge and it's so helpful to be able to talk to her about it. There are so many aspects of a wedding that I didn't even think about, like all of the printed pieces for the day of, and she makes sure they all look consistent from save the date to thank you notes. 10/10 would recommend, from last minute gifts and cards to literally any paper goods :) read more

I started shopping at Folio many years ago when they were located at the other end of Magnolia. At the time the staff was friendly and helpful. Since which time they moved downtown I haven't shopped there as often, my schedule conflicted with theirs. Just last week I had the chance to do a little shopping downtown. I was looking forward to going in as their window displays always have something I feel I could gift to others. There were two women working in the store and few others shopping around. They have lovely items, albeit some items are over priced, it's a great shop. The issue is that there is zero customer service. No one greeted us as we came in or those that followed us. Nor did they ask a soul if they needed any assistance finding anything. They were clearly quite busy with their conversation, evidently not concerned that we could hear them or if we purchased a thing or not. Living in downtown Larkspur I try to support the local shops, it saddens me to say that this a a few others will not receive my patronage as they are not welcoming, which in turn tells me they must not feel they need my business. read more

I don't often review a gift or card shop, but my two visits here left me puzzled. The cards, gifts and such that they carry are very nice, good quality - many things are quite lovely. It's in a nice location too. However, I don't understand the 100%-ignore-the-customer stance that some shops like this take. I've experienced this in the gift shop across the street too, and in a few shops in San Anselmo. On both my visits to the store, there were two employees. On my first visit, there was just one other customer in the store. Still, I had to pursue an employee to ask a question (it felt like I was interrupting her from tidying up) - she saw me, but said nothing, no greeting, no "May I help you find anything." Granted, she was very nice when I asked her a question. The second visit was similar. Two employees were in the far back of the store chatting to each other about both work and non-work things, and there were no other customers. I looked at cards right in front of them, and also looked right at them twice and smiled, but neither acknowledged me nor said hello. That's all I want - to be greeted. I don't need to have my hand held. Then I overheard a phone call where they'd made a mistake with an order and were trying to resolve the issue with a customer. It was nice to do that - but they never apologized for their error - they just described the error. They directed the customer in another direction. It sounded like a good solution, but why didn't they apologize for their mistake? It was as if they were avoiding the responsibility of the mistake, but just said that it happened. Apologizing isn't a weakness, it's a strength. Anyway, even though it was not my order, I was surprised how it was handled. I will go back if I find myself nearby, but I have zero expectations now about getting any form of greeting, nor an inquiry as to whether I need help finding anything. Lovely things, and the employees strike me as nice people - just not skilled in, nor aware of, the customer service side of the business. The contrast when going to Coquelicot a few doors down was tremendous. I was greeted by two employees very warmly, even though they were busy. I ended up buying a few things there, and their warmth helped inspire that sale. read more

Folio has moved into the center of downtown Larkspur and it's created such a lovely lift. It's a beautiful store with beautiful party stuff, lovely gifts, great items for the home; and now let me tell you how great it is to work with Alex, the owner, on invitations! Alex did all things print for my daughters wedding. It was more fun than i ever imagined, we saved money and had the most beautiful one-of-a-kind invitation. I wish we could do it all over again. I wouldn't change one thing about the process and our experience at Folio. read more

Such a beautiful little modern shop filled with chic gifts and cool cards. Its one of the few places left where you can get traditional engraved or letterpress invitations and stationery. I love popping in there whenever I'm in Larkspur. read more
