If I had not had that bad experience, this would be a 4 star, maybe 5 star review. But I am moderating it based on what I experienced in the past, while keeping an open mind for raising it in the future. Rosibel was my stylist for my haircut. She did a great job all around. My shampoo was relaxing, I could see her focused on getting my hair right while she did the actual cutting, and her blow dry styling was wonderful. Even my husband noticed, and he doesn't really pick up on that stuff. I was so happy with how my hair looked, it felt like a shame that I was just going home, haha. I wanted to show it off, and that is not my typical post-haircut mood.

I've referred so many of my friends to her over the years that she feels like part of my family. She knows us all well and even did hair and makeup for my best friend's wedding last year. She's been with me through sooo many weird hair changes for super short cuts, to that time I tried to be platinum blonde from almost black, to fashion colors, to up-do's. I've gone out of my way to follow him to multiple locations and studios as he progressed through his career from a employee at Tulio to being his own boss now at Studio 1955. My continued patronage over this time is a testament to just how good Kent is at his craft. Studio 1955 is located across the street from Raymor and Flannigan (previously TAFT) on central avenue. The address is: 1955 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12205 Phone: (518) 608-4754 Studio1955NY.com They have plenty of parking around back, a disabled friendly ramp, and have observed all covid requirements for any state required protocols such as masks and hand sanitizers, temperature checks at the door and so on. I have copy and pasted a review below that I am carrying forward from Kent's previous studio, Rain, which has changed ownership. Kent is a good barber who does a really good job. He has a good bedside manner. He is always conversational but also able to respect when you want some peace and quiet and to just get a cut. Kent is a consummate professional who has been perfecting his craft for decades. He takes pride in what he does. This isn't, "just a job". For him, it is who he is and he is where he wants to be in life. He makes the effort to remember his customers and goes above and beyond. He keeps a journal of all his customers where he records their names, preferences, scalp geography (such as a birthmark behind my right ear that would bleed like crazy if he nicked it with a razor/scratched it with scissors). He cares about his customers. When my wife passed away three years ago, he attended the funeral, donated a bouquet, and still regularly asks about how I am doing whenever I visit. These differences set Kent apart from the competition and keep me coming back. There are other ones too. He pays attention to lots of little details and things that add up to a lot. He is quick and efficient but also takes his time and gets things like lines right. He lathers and shaves the back of my neck, powders it with fresh talc, trims my eyebrows and makes sure my sideburns are even. He finishes with a gel and hairspray and shows you the sides and back of your cut to confirm his work and ensure you are happy with the results. Which I always am. He even makes good, tasteful product recommendations. I've been using Nioxin for thinning hair for years and and am pretty sure it is why I still have it! (*knock on wood). It has a nice minty mentholated feel on the scalp and comes in a numbered system (2/3 for thinning 4 for color safe and so on). He also recommended a great Korean restaurant (namu) which led to a yelp! Review by me later. At the end of the day, I don't think people leave salons, they leave their hair dressers/barbers. They also follow them when they are worth it. Kent is worth it. As long as I have hair (hopefully forever!), and Kent is a barber within reasonable driving distance, I will be a return customer. I recommend that you ask for him when you visit Studio 1955 or wherever he lands in the future. The time came where the groupon had nearly expired -- given that I am a terrible procrastinator -- and Kristin worked VERY hard with me to find a time where I could come in. All of the services that I received were exceptional, and although I haven't had my hair done by Kristin yet, she is a kind and welcoming individual who always seems glad to see me. Since that first time, I have been in every couple of months for one person in particular: Amy, the aesthetician of my dreams. Amy is my guru, my hero, my Yoda. When I first came in, I had (with all of the best of intentions) completely destroyed my skin. I had been using various products I knew very little about in an attempt to treat my acne which had actually happened as a result of the astringent products I was using making my face extremely sensitive! To hide this from others I was piling foundation and concealer onto my face, which prevented any kind of healing. Amy knew instantly what was wrong and had all sorts of recommendations to make. Every day my skin looks better, and each time I go to Kristin's her smile shows me how drastic the change has been. In fact, with the exception of a tinted SPF I have been using, I have almost completely ceased to use make-up. I don't need it! My skin is incredible! Although everyone at Kristin's will make your day and make you feel fabulous, I cannot recommend Amy's services highly enough. My sister (also an aesthetician) had been telling me for months to find a professional and get real advice about my skin, and her advice led me to this person who made a HUGE difference in my self-image and confidence.
