Celebrated the 4th of July on this beach with friends, sandwiches, and views. The trail to get down to the beach is rugged and narrow. You will be walking downwards on a hillside. At the end of the journey when you're almost on the beach, you will be going down steep, old stairs. It was my first time at this beach. I don't know if there's a better way down there, but I believe the answer is "no" unless you are friends with one of the rich families that own houses on the hillside and can use their tram. Once on the beach floor, you have to walk through rocks on rocks, with waves crashing at you, to get to the sand. When you're carrying a bunch of things, it's not too pleasant. Needless to say, getting on this beach took effort!! Once there, we relaxed over lunch and throwing a football. Happy birthday, America. read more

Just over a year ago I was down in the area to help a dear friend during her recovery from knee surgery. After a couple of weeks in the house and taking walks around the neighborhood my patient was more that ready for an outing. No being overly familiar with the area to the north I went with her suggestion on a spot where we would not have to navigate too much sand and unstable footing to get to an area where we could take in the ocean breeze and enjoy a picnic lunch. Being it was off season the parking was a complete breeze. I was able to park right adjacent to the beach a mere 5 or six steps to a nice small bluff that was just perfect for our outing. The beach was clean and very well kept. The views were amazing and the weather was perfect. The restrooms were nearby and were also in very nice condition and clean. All in all an absolutely perfect outing to a perfect beach with incredible views. I certainly can not wait for a return visit soon. read more

Our second year coming and still a top notch hike. Peaceful views of the ocean and vegetation. Trail is easy for the most part. If the day is right, you'll probably have a chance to see the sea lions among rocks!. Parking space is VERY limited so we had to park off the beach (decent pay fee of $8 from 6am-6.30pm on a Sunday) Restrooms are clean and near the trail too. This place is majestic! I originally went here about 5 years ago but never thought to review it. Just from the back of the beach and close to the cliff you'll different paths that brings you to the top of the cliff. The actual Point in Point Dume. The hike is relatively easy and I'm sure most people go for the view more than the workout. The trails are narrow in some points and no trees to protect you from the sun. The view from the top is awesome but you must watch your step because there is nothing but nature and a steep fall between you and the beach. Depending on time of year and time of day you may see sea lions, surfers (by the cove) and whales below. There is a tiny parking area with about 8 spaces and 2 hour parking that leads to the cliffs and a somewhat rusted staircase that leads down to the cove. I hope that it never gets crowded but I feel this is the type of place everyone must witness to appreciate the art of The Creator and the care of Mother Nature. It's a relatively hidden gem to the locals and those of us that want to go off the beaten path. This is a beautiful place to be if you want to reflect, meditate or just take pictures. Although I took pictures it's always good to get away from the congestion and think about what else is out there for us dreamers. If you can't appreciate the cliff then what's the Point? read more

Great beach to go to in the Malibu area. The price for parking during the daytime is steep ($15) but the parking lot is organized and at least you are guaranteed a spot when you pay (I hope) rather than looking for street parking near Westward. Gotta go early because if you come too late in the morning the lot might be full. Other than that it's always a good time. I almost always see dolphins in the distance. The waters off Malibu are usually cold so be aware of that. Also, the shorebreak at Zuma and surrounding beaches pound and Point Dume is no exception. Towards the point you have the rock cliff which is popular for commercials and others who like to photograph that stretch of beach. Summertime has lifeguards and there are showers and restrooms although they are in need of some serious updating. 2 bathroom stalls with no doors and a very low divider? That's from the ancient times. They need to renovate the facilities. And the showers, they are old too. I cut my thumb on the button for the shower and didnt realize it until I was getting changed. Not good. Good beach. Good views. Just needs a little updating as far as the facilities go. read more

Point Dume is awesome. Why does this specific beach get five stars when there's a billion right next to it? Because it's just special. Here's why I think so. -THE VIEW: Park at the end and walk up the sand trail straight ahead. After following it up. Hop over the wire fence (it's thigh high) to enjoy the top of point Dume. That view is amazing. To your left, you can see waves crash into the rocks. To your right, you can see the Malibu coast. -THE HYPE: What's cooler than visiting a place known for the number of film productions/shootings? -THE CLIMB: If rock climbing is your hobby, there's a group of people who consistently climb the point Dume rock. I am not one of them, but it's awesome to watch though! Definitely unique!! -THE EASE: The trail leading to the top is pretty easy. A few wooden steps here and there. Overall pretty safe. Only on top of point Dume do you have to watch where you walk for the uneven rocks, but very manageable. When in season, the trail is covered with yellow flowers on the bushes along the sides of the trail! -THE PRIVACY: There are people who are here, but you'll always find room. Definitely not the overbearing crowds that Santa Monica has. Lots of people like to catch up on top of point Dume too as that's never too crowded. -THE PHOTOS: Too many instagrammable opportunities. (: Parking is a little confusing. Came on a weekday and didn't have to pay (even though there are pay per space machines but security said no need that day). Came on a holiday and had to pay $10 to enter. Totally worth it though!! read more

One of the best beaches we have ever been to!! We arrived early on a Saturday around 9am, no traffic and found street parking for free. There is hiking, quiet beach, dolphin views. Bring some tennis shoes so you can go up the trails and see the best views. Lived here for so long and recently discovered this piece of paradise. Hike out to the point and the view is amazing. There's something magical about the clear ocean air and the sound of the waves. So very relaxing! Can't wait to return in the winter to witness the whale migration! Parking can be tricky as there aren't many spaces available. Despite the sign that says 'no dogs, as they can disrupt the natural environment', someone showed up with two dogs, off leash no less. Please leave the furry ones at home, we have to preserve this area for years to come. read more

This beach is really clean and beautiful. As for the hike up to the cliff, the hike isn't too bad if you have good shoes. My shoes were worn out so all the sand made the hike a bit challenging. In addition, we had to park really far away and walk for 20 minutes to get to the base to start climbing.. I wish parking wasn't a hassle, and I wish there were more railings for hikers to hold on to, even for hikers that stray from the path to walk to the edge of the cliff. I did that and it was so scary! but I got a great view of the waters (see pictures). I will come again, but only if they improve the safety rails. read more

This was our first time exploring Point Dume State Beach. Although I've been here in the past for a triathlon, this was our first time here for a leisurely stroll...and hike! :) Parking is limited along PCH, so we had to pay the $10 parking fee to go inside to the large parking lot to get to the beach. Because of the hefty parking fee, I think this beach is actually quieter and less congested than that of Zuma Beach next door. You pay at the kiosk (to the person collecting $ from you). We wanted to pay at the parking meter inside the lot, but none of them were working today (Saturday). Grr.... The beach has some nice cliffs to the left, you can hike up there to the Nature Preserve. We spotted a school of dolphins swimming in the ocean right off of Point Dume State Beach; it was fascinating and they were so close to shore! We saw at least 15-20 of them swimming along, one of them even jumped entirely out of the water and then dove back in. AMAZING. :) The downside of this beach is there were no open showers or water faucets around to wash your feet or clean up before you get back into your car. If you want to wash your hands or feet, you have to go inside to the bathroom to use the sink. I like that there is easy access to the Point Dume Nature Preserve as well, it's a great hike for any age. If you walk further up through the cliffs, you can hear sea lions talking to each other, and even a more 'secluded' part of Pointe Dume beach. This was a fun place to explore today and we were glad we came! read more

One of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California. I proposed to my wife here so it has nostalgia to us. However, the parking situation is absolutely horrific and makes me hesitant to go visit. I bought a parking pass for the evening and when I came back to my car there was a ticket on it. I tried contesting the ticket by showing pictures of my parking permit but I never got a response. Another ticket came in the mail several months later for $146. It boils my blood. I love this state beach! Point Dume is wonderful if you are looking for a place for a quick hike with beautiful views. The sunsets here are usually gorgeous as well. One of my favorite parts are the sea lions that you can watch. When I lived in the area I would regularly pack a bag and journal and read while enjoying the area. This was my first time going to Point Dume. The parking costs $8.00 total for the day, and closes at 8:30 pm, they also accept cash. The parking lot is average, not very big, but not too small. In order to arrive at the parking lot and entry, you have to pass by Zuma beach first which is to the right, once the road curves left, you drive all the way down to the entry booth of Point Dume. Once you have paid and entered the parking lot, there are two buildings on each side for restrooms, one at the very beginning and one at the end of the parking lot. They're not the cleanest, and when I arrived a cleaning crew did start working. I went to the end of the beach and settled there. Right over the rocks, is Pirate Cove, unfortunately, I did not go over the rocks since I had shoes on and was slipping on the rocks in my attempt. There are a few hiking trails adjacent with beautiful views of point Dume beach, Pirate Cove, and the ocean. As I was trail walking up the mountain, I noticed rock climbers had put their clips in the mountain. I also got to witness someone getting married right next to me, when I was back at the beach, sitting down in my chair. Lastly, there is a restaurant right in front of Zuma Beach, at the point of entrance of Point Dume incase you get hungry or want a drink. Overall, I recommend Point Dume. read more

Beautiful place for hiking/ sun soaking/ rock climbing/ ocean watching and much more! This is a hidden gem for the whole family, couple, friends, or even going solo. We went rock climbing and arrived early, so plenty of parking available. When it's sunny and warm you can sit on traffic outside the gave for a long time so plan to arrive early (couple weeks ago we were stuck in that traffic and turned around before getting to the parking lot. Parking is paid (pay and display machine accepts cards only), but there's plenty of free parking before the gate, but looked like quite a walk to the end/ rocks and trails of you park outside; we had too much to carry so we didn't even try the free parking. read more

2 Year Anniversary in Malibu, California at Point Dume was amazing! We initially were out at Venice Beach and it was trashy! Thank goodness we chose to trust Yelp to land us the best sunset we've ever seen! The entire trip in to Point Dune was phenomenal! We drove up the Pacific Coast Highway and the weather was perfect as well as the convertible we rented as we cruise in with some EDM! Once we are in we we notice lots of people making their way up to the top of Point Dune but we chose to ride on down to the bottom where the parking lot was. It truly felt like paradise in this rather secluded spot! We hiked up a short and sandy trip to the top where the sun was just beginning to set! The view was breathe taking with the waves crashing on the rocks about 100 feet below and the sun directly setting before us in the West! We cannot wait to get back here from Atlanta! It was Thanksgiving Day that we visited Point Dune but also our 2 Year Anniversary which was the most memorable yet!! read more

If you're into hiking defiantly try this place specially around Feb to April. Around that time of the year you get to see the poppies and beautiful view of the ocean mixed with greenery. 2019 was an exception as far as poppies (those little colorful flowers, usually yellow or orange) but even on a regular year you get to see some around that time of the year. The hiking is very mild but just keep in mind that you'll be hiking mainly in sand so be prepared for that. read more

Point Dume is a little slice of heaven. I've lived here for a while and went to Zuma Beach nearby for a zillion of times, but we visited Point Dume last year for the first time. It's a great way to spend an afternoon, any time of the year when it's sunny. We parked closer to Zuma Beach, on the street (on Westward) for free and walked to Point Dume on the beach, to get more walking in. We hiked up on the rock, barefoot, in the sand, which we never did before. How cool! Fun hike, amazing views, nice little adventure. Maybe we approached it from the wrong side, we did see the official sign and more parking up on top, but we didn't care. We wouldn't do it any other way. Hiking in the sand is just cool and you can't beat the views. Breathless! read more

The police are crazy here. The neighbors don't like outsides to visit the area so police does their dirty work for them by giving people tickets for parking slightly on the white line or getting cars towed. Not work $600 today for getting my car out of the towing company and tickets. Malibu you can forget us ever visiting again. Your local rich people got what they want, less outsiders visiting. Malibu not worth it. Hardly any parking and if you park in the neighborhood everywhere has no parking signs. Malibu has given too much power to the rich and public land cannot even be accessed by regular people. It's also evident that Malibu doesn't want tourists to bother the neighbors because there is no clear signs for how to access the beach. Also no access such as stairs put in for tourist to go down to the beach, they have to hold on to a rope to prevent people from falling. The take by the city is keep our residents happy and make crazy money from the tourist by ripping them off. read more

What a gorgeous way to spend Christmas morning! Point Dume is a relatively easy and quick hike, so don't be intimidated. There's some street parking along the beach, but there's also a relatively big lot where you can park your car ($10). There are also a couple of public restrooms in the enormous parking lot as well, which is super convenient if you're heading somewhere right after a hike or a day at the beach. My boyfriend, brother, and I reached the top in about half an hour, but ended up spending a good hour just enjoying the view. I'm not sure if it's because I went on Christmas Day, but the entire area was just really quiet and peaceful. There were a few families here and there, but overall I could enjoy the view in silence. For a quick, no-frills hike with a really beautiful view, look no further than Point Dume. read more
