There's all these cute little things hidden throughout the city. Well not quite hidden but a nice surprise to see. It's located inside the park right in the middle. Just along the pathway and right across from the playground. It's open to the public during certain hours. From the look of it first hand you wouldn't think that it's a lighthouse. Just a nice Victorian style home with the cute wooden picket fence around. There's a parking lot to the side of the property which leads you to the gift shop and restrooms. One end has a cute little garden area where it's a butterfly sanctuary. I didn't go inside the gift shop which I did notices that they offer tours of the property. I can't review the tour as I didn't experience it but the property from the outside was beautiful. You could walk along and check out the front and back of the property and garden. It's a cute place which I think they also host different events throughout the year. I could be wrong but it looked like they were having something for Easter later. It's a beautiful landmark with its nice architecture but to think that it was a lighthouse, I would have never guessed. If you get a chance to stop by the park, it's worth checking out even a wander around if you didn't do the tour. read more

The lighthouse is open Tues-Sunday and gives free tours on the hour at 1,2,3 pm which are about 45 minutes. The tour is the only way to see the house and go up to the light. There are a couple of windy staircases which I thought was fun but spooked some people on my tour. It was so interesting to see the inside the house and learn about the lightkeepers' family history. It's an old Victorian house/lighthouse. If you don't go on the tour you can still tour the grounds. Parking is difficult on the weekends because it's next to a park but there was some spots in the neighborhood. The Korean Friendship bell is close by. read more

Worth the wait! We arrived early so killed time by exploring the Fermin Park before doing the live Tour. There are rows of majestic Fig trees planted through out the park and there is a very special and unique tree in the park as well, can you find it? If you take the Point Fermin lighthouse tour, Mike the tour guide will tell you which one it is. The park has a stage for local events. Around the property you will see that there is plenty of seating with ocean breezes for you to enjoy the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. There is a very well constructed wall around the cliffs. The point Fermin lighthouse has a very interesting story and lots of history, Mike the tour guide sure knows how to keep your attention during the whole tour with plenty of time for you to ask questions. 150 year old Fermin Point Lighthouse is an interesting part of SoCal history, Never knew of this treasure until recently. Anyone interested in architecture, lighthouses & beautiful gardens will find this place delightful. Plenty of parking around the park, one can also drive straight up the store/information center right next to the lighthouse. They're open Tuesday-Sunday & offer 3 guided tours lasting about 45-50min three times a day. We didn't make any prior reservation. Our docent was very knowledgeable & patiently answered everyone's questions. Visitors with knee or back issues are advised to avoid the tour because of about 50 narrow steep steps climb. The place is maintained by volunteers who have done an amazing job with the yard around the lighthouse. Definitely a must visit hidden gem in San Pedro. read more

Point Fermin Lighthouse is right below the Korean Friendship Bell so we decided to swing by. It was very busy on a weekend it's best to visit this park on a weekday. It's got huge trees and lots of places to relax there are small cottages sprawling the edge over looking the coast. The lighthouse is fully maintained and painted and does not show how it was withered with time. We didn't get the chance to tour the inside of the house. You can bring your furry friends but be respectful to others and pick up any of their litter. read more

I I came to bring my family for a tour here. We stood out there for about 20 minutes.. Danny the tour guide here came out and seen us but did not approach or tell us nothing until it was time to do the tour only to tell us we could not take the tour because there was already too many people when we were out there for quite some time . We did eye to eye contact . It would have been nice if he would have approached us and let us know ahead of time . Very unprofessional Two other families had the same issue . read more

Who doesn't like seeing lighthouses? I'm one of those folks who enjoy seeing these charming structures. Point Fermin Lighthouse is located in San Pedro, California. It was constructed in 1874, and it is one of the oldest lighthouses on the West Coast. Loved the Victorian style structure of the lighthouse because it is not everyday you see a lighthouse built like that. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take one of the self guided tours of the interior of the structure. Hopefully, next time we will. The Point Fermin Lighthouse was built in 1874, which was the first navigational light into the San Pedro Bay. Its stick style is an early Victorian architectural style and is simpler in design and decoration than the later high Victorian period, and it is characterized by its gabled roofs, horizontal siding, decorative cross beams and hand carved porch railings. The gate is open during their normal business hours, though visitors are required to make reservations for inside tours, and the last tour is at 3pm, which have very limited spots by family unit. I called ahead to come visit and get a tour of the lighthouse and they said one can just come, 1st come 1st serve. It turned out to be just my friend and I so essentially it was a private tour! There was plenty of parking along the park in front of the lighthouse. The tour is donation-based so you can give whatever you want to. Our tour guide, Mike, was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, friendly and answered all our questions. The residential lighthouse tour was very interesting and it was intriguing to learn about lighthouse families and what it takes to upkeep the lighthouse. There are quite a few narrow steps to reach the top but there are landings on each floor to rest on. The views on each floor were incredible! This charming lighthouse is a delightful excursion you can complete in only a couple hours. The grounds are sweet with blooming flowers, large areas of green grass with bright white wrought iron benches distributed throughout the gardens. Take time to walk the area and take in the tiny fairy garden, the fragrant roses and all interesting architecture on a house built on the west coast. Shutters and a tornado/hurricane cellar? You've got to love the builders of the time who had no idea about our So Cal weather, admittedly they add to the charm so enjoy the details. Parking can get busy so timing is important when you plan your visit. Tours are free, a suggested donation is welcome. The tiny gift shop has a good amount of mementos, a little expensive but funding the lighthouse is a noble task. We had a private tour because no one else was there, nice to have the docent to ourselves. The house is impeccably appointed with fixtures of the period, decor representing the time the families ran the lighthouse and all the creaks and colors of the past. Loved the family photos and simplicity of it all. Great way to enjoy some history, enjoy the outdoors and support our little landmarks. read more

Wonderful history! Wonderful house! Take a free tour (donations suggested) of the lighthouse at the south point of Point Fermin Park. Walk through the house that once guided ships safety into the harbor. The tour begins in the backyard where you have a view of the cisterns which were once used to keep fresh water. Head through the front door and into the parlor where guests were entertained. Your walking tour continues throughout the house. See the kitchen, bedrooms, and walk up to the lighthouse room on top of the house. The view is fantastic! The tour guides were very nice and knowledgeable. We very much enjoyed our visit to Point Fermin. The location and ocean views are incredible in the park around the lighthouse. The lighthouse itself is open Tuesday through Sunday 1:00 - 4:00pm with small-group guided tours on the hour. You can imagine that the volunteers here are passionate about the history of the lighthouse - which is as much living quarters and homestead as it is a former light-beacon for ships. Very thorough tour lasting an hour describing the late 1800's structure and the various families and historical keepers of the property. Authentic period furniture throughout the property and obvious phenomenal views from the top of the lighthouse. Beautiful, well-manicured lawns, gardens and flowers around the property Tour is described as free - but obviously a nice donation should be made at the end of your tour. Oops, I did it again. Exactly one week ago I went to San Pedro & tried to photo the Korean Friendship Bell in heavy fog. Today I showed up at Point Fermin Lighthouse just in time for the fog to roll in. The good news: the park is just as pretty, maybe more so, in the fog. Alas, I was too early to tour the lighthouse interior (tours are Tuesday-Sunday, 1-4). Good excuse to go back. The historic lighthouse doesn't look like most lighthouses, but rather resembles a house I could live in (foggy fantasy). Free parking in the lot adjacent to the park & if it's full, street parking along Paseo Del Mar is also free. read more

The Point Fermin Lighthouse is so charming. Not only is it open 6 days a week from 1:00-4:00, with tours every hour (closed on Mondays and holidays), the knowledgeable docents provide visitors with wonderful information about this beautiful piece of history. This lovely Victorian lighthouse, built in 1874, was one of the area's most elegant buildings at the time. Although the government provided the basics with which to live, the lighthouse keepers were allowed to bring their own furniture and personal items. While the furniture that currently resides here is not original to the lighthouse, it shows how the keepers might have decorated then. Besides having beautiful pieces of furniture from the time period, the lighthouse is full of great artifacts. There are some lovely old photos and lighthouse keeper's log books. The old Fresnel Lens is also in the lighthouse. It was nice seeing how these people lived during their time here. Their lifestyle was a rugged one and definitely not for the faint of heart. What I liked the most were the wonderful volunteers that worked here. They were knowledgeable, thoughtful, and engaging. They really shared their passion for lighthouses and their knowledge about the lighthouse keepers and their families. I could also feel their frustration as well. While the interior of this lighthouse was well maintained, the outside was in desperate need of serious repair. I would love to see this lighthouse get the care it needs. This lighthouse is a breathtaking piece of history and should be preserved for many years to come! read more

I was in town for business and decided to check out the lighthouse as I am a history kind of person who likes that stuff. The lighthouse is in awesome shape and has a great view of the ocean. It is located right down from the Korean Bell so you can do both within a two minute drive. The docents were wonderful and the tour actually took about an hour because there was so much information. There is no charge for the tour but they do like any donations you can provide. Small gift shop with a few trinkets and shirts. Be prepared to climb a lot of steps to the top. Not too bad, but if you have bad knees or a bad back you may only make it one or two stories up. The view is really cool. The sunken city is next to it as well if you feel like going under a fence on a crumbly cliff side and then trespass a bit. read more

This lighthouse is part of a historic building that is amazingly well-preserved and is open to the public. The weather in this park situated upon a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean is never bad. During our coastal tour on Tuesday, we stopped here to check out the lighthouse. Point Fermin Park surrounds the area and there are great trees of interest and a lovely view of the ocean. We didn't take a tour but tours are available. Lighthouses are a great and important piece of our history so they're always fun to check out. I love the park area. Lots of big beautiful trees provide great shade for picnics and parties. Just don't use the restrooms. They are not properly maintained. read more

Trickling OPEN, at least on weekends, call and find out if you and your family party can get a tour, or if you'll just be able to walk around the grounds. because it was closed for Covid shut down for many months. Each volunteer tour guide does their own research and so every time you take a tour you may learn the history story of the light house from a new point of view. There are also volunteer gardeners keeping the exterior property pretty. The park the Point Fermin Lighthouse is in is pretty nice. There are viewing areas with picnic tables, a children's area, and bathrooms that are usually functioning though you may want to bring along a sliver of soap and a small roll of TP with you. read more

I love this place. I just loved reading my library book "color purple" here. seated on the ground, sheltered from the sunlight, under one of its many gorgeous and sturdy and humongous and gigantic trees. I was safe and protected. There were workers working on fixing things. There was a group of people from the local area who were just enjoying the day, enjoying each other's company. Just talking, being mindful and present on this gorgeous day. There was this gentleman who was giving us a free live music playing his trumpet. There were also a group of middle schoolers who were running, preparing for their track and runs. I just absolutely loved it. I don't know how I I missed the actual lighthouse & white house last time. I will definitely be back. read more

We were there for the 3:00 PM tour this 4th of July weekend. Krissy, our tour guide was very sweet, nice and knowledgeable of her tour. Krissy gave us information about this light house that is very fascinating. It felt very nostalgic to walk on the very steps that the old keepers have walked on over 142 years ago. This is a highly recommended place for all to visit if you find yourselves in the San Pedro area. Two thumbs up! read more

This gem is hidden at the end of the 110 Freeway. As others mentioned, the lighthouse visitor center is only open Tuesdays to Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. Tours of the lighthouse are offered at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. My tour guide was a lovely elderly woman who really enjoys volunteering here. She was very thorough with each room visited. She even let us touch a couple of the artifacts such as coal from the 1800s. My favorite part of the tour was going to the top of the lighthouse to get a 360 view. Parking is easy, location is convenient. After this tour, I walked across the street, up the hill and checked out the Korean Bell. I hope this historical gem will not be closed. LA County has put this lighthouse up for sale and I hope whoever buys it will preserve and continue these awesome tours. read more

While visiting the area, I decided that lighthouses are pretty neat and cool to check out. Plus they're near wonderful ocean views, which I love. Love, love, love. The lighthouse itself is very cute and has a nice garden, but the really neat thing was arriving just in time for a free tour led by a volunteer. She was a very nice older lady that knew a lot about the building/area history, and did a fabulous job even though it was her first tour. First and foremost I would like to say this lighthouse was in the movie "500 Days of Summer." I did not know this until after I visited that I discovered that lol it was used for the wedding that Summer and Tom go to towards the end of the movie!! Aside from that, I was sad because this isn't your typical lighthouse. It looks like an old home. It is next to some time of community center ....odd people around, that is for sure. I happened upon the lighthouse after plans nearby fell through. I arrived in between tours and the next one was full, but docent Polly was able to recommend some nearby sights until the 3pm tour. I came back and lingered in the gift shop with her and talked about other nearby historical attractions. It was really nice to meet someone very passionate about her local history. She knows it all. She led us through the lighthouse, which is full of pleasant surprises about its history. She had an answer for every small detail and really got us excited to learn. I stayed around the lighthouse area for a while after and found myself with more questions about the other nearby buildings. I ran back to Polly and she happily explained MORE awesome history about the land. Now I NEED to come back to learn from her again. It was a great afternoon! read more

The lighthouse and the park are gems! I was there on October 5, 2010, a day which had a fair amount of rain. Even so, I was able to see much and enjoy the history of the place. I was unable to stay for the next tour, but I will return when I have more time and don't need to get back to downtown Los Angeles so quickly.
