I was carrying around my renewal in my car and didn't plan on going today, but it just happened that I had free time and so it worked. It was that time of the year.... car registration due with a smog requirement. Thanks to Point Loma Smog, I was in and out of there in 14 minutes! I drove by on a week day and decided to stop by. The owner immediately took my vehicle into the garage and began the smog process. There was waiting room but I decided to soak in some sunshine. After the testing, he notified me that my vehicle passed and to come inside to pay. The cost was $48 total and was able to pay using my credit card. He also sent my smog certificate directly to the DMV so I could pay for my registration online. The service was quick, friendly and priced reasonably. I've been lazy about getting my smog done during COVID, but I finally found the motivation today. I called ahead to verify that he was open until 5 as listed--he was--and to get a quote--$48 for an '02 Honda, better than the $55 quoted at OB Smog! Anyway, drove down the street and parked in the lot. He was assessing a vehicle but kindly let me know that after the one other person waiting, I would be next. There was an open chair outside the office in the shade, but I opted to wait in my vehicle to avoid any other customers. He took about 20min per vehicle so it went by fairly quickly. When it was my turn, I pulled my car up, left the keys on the seat, and sat outside in the shade to read while he went to work. Once he was done, I passed him my card through the window in the office, he got all the paperwork together, handed everything back, and I was on my way! I called around, everyone was reluctant to do it. OB Smog Check said they would but when I took it over there, they said they could do it but it takes them longer than the regular vehicle and there was one person behind me. What a wonderful experience!!! I had come in to the shop the last 4 smogs but when I came in in August, I hadn't driven long enough after putting in a new battery to reset the computer. He told me to drive more and come back for a free retest. I don't drive much, so in September I came back, but it still wasn't enough. Then Covid hit and I've been very sick... finally got back to him January 14th, way beyond the 30 day limit. He had to run the entire test over again. Every thing was fine, he said so I went inside the office with my wallet, expecting to pay him, and he said "No no, everything fine". Although I was the only one there at 8:30 on a Thursday, and no one came in while I was there, this wonderful gentleman wouldn't take my money!!! He said I'd already spent enough on the car!
