Pros: The people were nice and lovely to talk to, Mani pedi after tip was $90 Cons: -One was cutting my cuticles way too far on my fingers I've had sensitivity and pain since I got them done on Sat. -The massage chairs had no remotes and were showing their age. I had to move a lot to avoid my butt feeling numb. -I didn't even leave the salon before my nails got smudged. The drying she used to seal wasn't very good. -she covered my nails with oil as a finish and I feel that contributed to the smudging for sure. -I also had rolled up my pants for the pedi so while my nails were drying she forgot to roll them down unfortunately it meant my legs were freezing by the time she came to check on my nails in the dryer read more

This place is great! It's a small salon and appointment-only and not the cheapest place, but it's full-service and they are not only incredibly nice, but very competent. I have been to a bunch of places since moving downtown, but most of them are hit and miss when it comes to a quality manicure. At Poised, the technicians pay plenty of attention to cuticles, and don't skimp on the number of coats of polish - I always ask for a few extra coats because my nails are really flimsy, and it's never a problem. The salon also stands by their manicures, and will give complimentary touch-ups if there's an issue within the first few days. Some of the ladies do nail art, and the salon does acrylics but it's important to call ahead and specify what you want. I'm often able to get same-day weekday appointments, but they do get busy! I don't remember the pricing by heart, but my last (basic) pedicure and (gel) manicure combo was $60-ish after tax. That includes a 15% discount they give for Monday/Tuesday clients. And they do hair! I got my last haircut there and it was really nice! Good style, good length. I wasn't a fan of the way she styled my hair... it was awkwardly stiff. But I have high hopes for the next time! And - a mani, pedi, and haircut was just over $100. Incredible deal. I really do also have to add that every lady in this salon is incredibly nice. My friends laugh, because for someone so efficient and purposeful, I can be one lazy MF. ATTENTION: August 7 to September 31, 2013 all services are 15% off. What else do you need to know? Poised does a great job and has some of the most competitive pricing I've found in Vancity. And I have been looking. I've spent countless hours looking online and on foot. It's how I like to spend my weekends. After all, there's no better way to rationalize getting a weekly pedicure than to say you've been walking all day. FYI, a paraffin mani is just $30. That rivals Sparkle Nails on Broadway but less rough around the edges. For the quality and service you get, it's the cheapest mani/pedi place I've found downtown. I have been attempting to be more wallet-conscious lately and when I noticed the grand opening special at Poised, I couldn't resist. I arrived a few minutes early out of courtesy and my stylist was still finishing up with another client. Totally fine by me, she was warm and welcoming. I wasn't offered anything to drink which was kind of disappointing as it was chilly out - a nice cup of tea would have hit the spot. I came in for a hair cut and left feeling like a super model! I loved the way I was listened to and even my weird nit-picky requests were heeded. There wasn't any super relaxing scalp massage with my shampoo, but I wasn't expecting one so no loss there. The only thing that lost a star for me was the fact that the salon did not have a receptionist or a free body to deal with the steady flow of clients coming in or people asking for parking meter change. I realize that the space is only about 3 months old, but it was a little frustrating when I had to be left over half a dozen times. The girls doing manicures couldn't get up as easily and my stylist clearly felt awful. She explained that some kinks were still being worked out in the business, I understood and was as patient as possible. All in all, it was a decent experience and I will be back :) read more

I wish I could give 5 stars but there are a few things that justify only 4. Pros: Great Quality, friendly service, and fluent English speaking (I say this only because places I have been before there are misunderstandings due to communication issues resulting in a different finish than expected) Cons: Took over 2 hours for a set of nails. Firstly, I called to book an appointment and they were able to get me in later that day. I believe Maya was the lady who did my nails and she did an AMAZING job. I'm extremely picky with the way that I like my nails and I'm impressed. I had a new set of solar gel with shellac put on. I'm very hard on my hands and I've had experiences where they start lifting within a few days, these ones lasted 2 weeks before starting to a little and even still it's hardly noticeable. She also recommended a colour that I love which also has yet to chip. The only problem I really had wasn't her fault, but I got some nail art done and ended up waiting half an hour for the lady to come do it! That was quite excessive and I didn't understand why she couldn't of taken a 5 minute break from her client to do a quick job (it was an easy pattern). This was a huge inconvenience for me taking what should of been just over an hour to two hours. Hopefully they can redeem themselves when I go back for a fill. :) read more

I'm not sure I've ever appreciated a stylist more than Sheena @ Poised (Davie location). She intuitively knows what colour and cuts will flatter you and she is always up to date with new techniques. I don't normally enjoy the hair salon experience but to get Sheena I'll go out of my comfort zone to make an appointment. I've also asked for highlights etc that she didn't necessarily recommend and instead of saying I told you so, she had me back in to correct it complimentary right away. I´ve gotten my nails done in a dew places downtown and there´s no comparison. I got a full set gel manicure + tips. The service was fantastic, I am in love with the end result, they warn you about the different stages of the process (it is supposed to be warm, what to expect from gel vs acrylic, etc) and as in no other place I´ve been they actually let you try on the colors if you have not decided on one. Michaela is super sweet and keeps on top of trends. Sarah has done my lashes for the past year and she always knows exactly what look I am going for, my lashes last longer than any other place and are super affordable. Dylan is the blonde god! I'm bleach blonde and have had a hard time finding someone who can accomplish my desired look. I started seeing Dylan about three months ago and am super happy with my hair! There was one time where I was not 100% happy with my nails, and they gladly fixed it. They are having a new promo where if you bring a friend you get 15% off. They also have 15% off nail services on Monday and Tuesday at the Yaletown location. I really like Linda or Brittany for doing my nails. They really take the time to make sure you are satisfied with your nails. It is not the most luxurious nail salon, but it is nice and clean. I cannot complain for the price. I usually go on Mondays and Tuesdays so that I can avail for the 15% off promo. For a shellac colour change it is only $27 after the discount. They also take off shellac polish for free as long as your are getting a shellac manicure or a shellac polish change. Went there for a manicure because I saw mostly positive reviews online, and decided to give it a try. However it was not a pleasant experience. The price point was good but you do get what you pay for. First of all the way that the nail tools got clean made me uncomfortable (the tool for removing cuticles were soaked in a container filled with yellow-ish liquid...and two ladies rinsing those tools were talking about how some of them gets rusty from not being cleaned properly). Also, the lady that did my nails for me was not that good at applying regular nail polish, the topcoat was very uneven, and it started chipping the day after. I don't recommend it, and won't go back again. read more

The girls were nice but they didn't do a very good job on my gel mani/pedi. Overcharged me because they removed my cuticles.... Um... Isn't that what you do during a manicure? I have good nails but they made it sound like it took an army to remove my cuticles. Did I mention she did a rush job of 20 min because it was end of day? So how were my horrific cuticles so easily dealt with in such little time. Worst part of all my Mani started peeling within a week. For a Yaletown salon with Yaletown prices their service was terrible. I drove down to commercial drive paid half the price for Mani and pedi with artwork and guess what...
