I found this TOT Time on a great website; familyfuntwincities.com and I am glad that I did. Only 15 minutes from our home, we arrived around 10:15 AM and headed to the Fieldhouse where Tot Time was held- which is just around the corner from the entrance down a short flight of stairs. (There's an elevator available as well) We walked into the busiest, fullest Tot Time I've ever witnessed! There was at least 75+ people there, enjoying the bouncy houses, balls, cars, and various balls available around the turf. This place is slightly cooler, but nothing a light sweater or long sleeve shirt can't handle. We immediately dropped our gear along the perimeter of the field, and began to enjoy play. My son stayed in the bouncy house the entire time- though kids ran in and out, enjoying other activities this space had to offer. I was the only woman of color, though eventually there were three other males of color who joined. Initially, I was slightly uncomfortable- and a few kids came up to me and stared as if I was the first brown person they'd ever seen. That's another subject for another day. But if that kind of thing deters you from enjoying the experience, I'd say bring your own friends. The bouncy house was a rough place. Boys wrestling, kids bumping heads, falling, etc but the fun never stopped. From what I witnessed, the kids were free to run and roam without parental supervision. There were cases of kids wrestling until one was hurt in the bouncy house, and I was too afraid to say so Something. Though some parents stayed close to their kids and monitored what was going on (which is my style of parenting). We had a young girl push my son, hitting him upside the head and her mom held her accountable and made her apologize. I appreciate that! (Not that I was counting on it) It was a good experience and I look forward to joining them again.

Parking here is good, with two parking lots for the two entrances on the east and west side of the building. Also a plus is the attached onsite sporting good store. Further a plus is the attached restaurant and bar, all connected so once inside you are good to go. This arena has a long history of controversy with city ownership, then county ownership, and the private hockey academy and on an on, so you can google that history and make your own decision. This is a nice place, with good ice and potential for additional growth if the former bubble section is turned into something useful like turf, ice, or some other use.

Lots of tasty food and beverages available for purchase all throughout. They have different events for the game and the ones we go to usually have food trucks and fireworks at the end. There are small rain gardens featuring native plants and plenty of lawn and field all around plus the baseball fields. But we only came here for the kid attractions. The splash pad has three different fountains that will be running at a time, 6 in total, that alternate with three coming up from the ground and three coming from rocks. And then, this is my favorite part, the water from the splash pad spills into a man-made stream. I actually had a lot of fun looking through the beautiful rocks and organizing them by look and feel with the kids. Find the button to turn on the splash pad on the short blue pole by the fountains. There was a small playground that didn't get much attention while I was there, but the large playground has a lot going on for little kids as well as big kids. There's even one really close tonight that you can only get to by climbing up a few rope ladders. They did have porta potties nearby, but the only thing missing is a bathroom. I love that they have a partial fence separating the main playground from the parking lot, and a shaded gazebo for grown-ups to sit at. I wish I had a park like this in my city near Atlanta! It would get so much action. I was actually surprised this place wasn't swarming with people and we visited on a summer Tuesday morning.

The students were provided a limited number of tickets to ensure seating - they did scan tickets if you had them but it definitely wasn't enforced. The line to get in was chaotic. Despite there being multiple entrances to the center they only had 1 single line for hundreds of people - including the grads to enter. The security and staff did a poor job at managing the flow & logistically the security area was a waste. They were supposed to stop letting people in at 10:30 but didn't start moving the line until after 10:20. The gradation had a 11 start and started late (but that could have been more so the schools side, not sure). Most people were directed to sit upstairs. Very difficult to hear upstairs. Also when the graduation was over they locked us upstairs for over 20 min - preventing people from leaving. This was deeply concerning - for many safely reasons as it was already running over time and people had places to be. I will definitely avoid attending these types of events here.

I came across the African-American Museum by Truce Center while at Maplewood Mall. It is located on…read morethe first floor. The closest major store to it is Kohl's. I decided to check it out. I'm glad that I did. It was fascinating to learn about the African-American experience through the artifacts and items shown at this museum. From a 123-year-old Nigerian drum, to shackles used on African-Americans in cotton fields, it was a haunting, real experience. Music and pop culture played dominant parts in this museum's exhibits, from Shaft to Michael Jackson. It was cool seeing items that I saw as a kid, such as Michael Jackson figurines, end up in this museum. I spoke to the man who was there, who indicated that staff are continuing to receive more artifacts that are donated fairly regularly. He grew up in Maplewood where he and his peers got into trouble and didn't have a place to go. Truce Center wants to instill a place where kids can drop by and not get into trouble, while mentoring them to become strong individuals in the community. Truce Center wants to shed light on African-American history that isn't fully taught in school. I learned so much simply reading and looking at everything at this museum. I was enlightened and learned so much during my brief visit. This non-profit organization seems to be on the right track. If you are at Maplewood Mall and want a break from shopping, this museum is a decent alternative. I got more of a sense of this community and its history from an African-American perspective by soaking up the information shared at this museum. (12)
