When looking for a quick pedi, this friendly neighbourhood place is great. It has changed management a number of times over the years and really tightened practices around hygiene. The whirlpool tubs have been replaced with plastic tubs and they change a liner with each use. Not environmentally friendly, but clean. The cost is about half what I would pay in a high end spa, and my expectations are adjusted accordingly. There is no set receptionist and the aestheticians take turns answering the phone, so sometimes you will be mid pedi and they will have to take the phone. Lots of mother and daughter pairs and the occasional man in here. Kids pedis are circa $20 and they usually do a fun design on the big toes for them. They also do inexpensive waxing with strip wax in the back rooms. read more

I am always greeted with a smile when I walk in to this nail salon! Normally I am skeptical of nail salons because of the germs and how unhygienic places are but NEVER this one! It is always CLEAN and had a spa like atmosphere! It does get busy on weekends and Friday's with moms in the area but come on a random day during the week and it's quiet. I just got a wax and pedicure there today and I had the BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!! The salon is incredibly hygienic and pristinely clean. Clara provided me with my services and she was so gentle and patient. She listened to my every request and took her time to be thorough. The manager, Cindy, is such a wonderful lady, and even though we were their last appointment she didn't rush us or pressure us to leave. Background of myself: Veteran on UV gel nails, Biogel, Shellac, Acrylic across GTA... I shouldn't have ignored the one bad review for this place on gel nails... All negativity aside, perhaps if you are just looking for a traditional manicure, shellac or pedicure, they might do a better job. Otherwise, I would not recommend this place for gel nails or removal. Read on if you are debating whether to get your nails done here. I could not believe my eyes when the technician was buffing down my nails manually with a regular filer. Not only did it not help with the buffing, the process was painful as the technician was using so much force to remove my nails. Perhaps they should have assessed my nails in the beginning and let me know that they don't have the right tools to remove my nails instead of forcefully trying to do it? For the entire duration, the lady was sighing, rolling her eyes and speaking in Korean with the other lady... I was extremely uncomfortable because I was pretty sure she was talking about my nails... It literally took an hour an a half to remove my nails before they started applying a new set on my nails.... She started dipping my nails in this powder which they call "dip powder gel" that's similar to acrylic... and I actually insisted to get biogel done but the lady told me biogel is not going to stick well with the current gel I have on. I was like, ok do whatever you think its best. Because, you know, they are "professionals" right? Moving on....I received some really rude comments from one of the technicians which I am not sure if it was just some sort of language barrier we were having. She fully said the nail design I got from the previous place was quote on quote "very ugly" and that they used "very cheap gel that's like acrylic". I don't know how one would feel if they get comments like that from a business that you are paying service for? Me being me, I just smiled and let her continue with the buffing and yapping. She then continued to assume that my ethnicity is Chinese and said "a lot of Chinese moved to this neighbourhood... you must have gotten your nails done at Pacific Mall previously." I was like "umm, no, I got it done somewhere in Markham". She's like "yes, that's Pacific Mall." Personally, I think the assumptions were pretty racist...? I was just like... what? What the hell just happened? My nails finally got done... pretty basic single colour without any designs, which is fine I think they look pretty good for its price. She charged me $60 after tax and I still tipped them well even though I had a terrible experience. The "film" of the colour gel they used on my nails came off after 10 days... Which I know for a fact that's not the type of UV/bio gel they use at other places... It felt like shellac or drug store DIY gel... I am going to give the place the benefit of the doubt because I don't know what was on my nails. All I know was that my nails DID NOT LAST for the price and pain I paid for. Guess what though? The"cheap gel nails" that was done at another place lasted me 4.5 weeks before they started lifting. Ha! All in all, I had a very terrible experience here, hence, the one star... the one star is for its cleanliness and wide selection of colours. Seriously, don't come here if you: a) are not one of the ethnic backgrounds they are used to servicing to b) got your nails done at another place and need removal c) can't handle harsh comments d) want lasting gel nails done e) have less than 2 hours to spend read more

I've been going to Polaris for many many years now, every week, in fact. One week I get full manicure and the other week I just get my polish changed... It really is a perfect place for me to forget about everything and have my "alone-time"! They have really cool variety of polishes aside from those typical ESSIE, OPI and CND... as I am all up for trying fun & adventurous colors on my nail on a weekly basis. Aside from getting their jobs completed at superb quality, another thing I really like about Polaris is the professionalism & friendliness of the aetheticians. (Rachel is always my go-to person but she is usually booked back -to - back..) They are super super friendly and they are like a second family to me! Oh, and please take my advice and CALL THEM to make an appointment before going to them! if you don't, I believe they DO accept walk-ins but good luck on weekends as this spa is busy! I am surprised to see that negative review down below as they have never messed up on my nails or toes in the last 4 years or so... but yes. They get 5 stars from meee! read more

If you want a good proper gel refill do NOT go here... I went in because my usual salon was booked. They don't have electric filers so the lady who did my nails spent absolutely forever trying to file down the gel which did not work.. The previous gel was lifting badly and she didn't even glue it down, just stuck my fingers straight into the jar of powder. I get that they do dip gel but that is not sanitary! They ended up looking alright but started lifting after a week and it was the entire nail coming off since she did not even try to glue down what she couldn't file off. Unless you want a new, dip gel manicure, I definitely don't recommend. read more

I love this place!! They have a huge range of colours, the people are extremely friendly and pay attention to detail but it's extremely popular so if you go without an appointent, be prepared to wait. I don't recommend this place if you're planning to get fake nails (bio gel etc). I sent my sister here, where she did get biogel nails, and she didn't like the outcome. I've actually never seen someone get fake nails here before - everyone goes for the more traditional, one colour nail. read more

It's a very pretty, clean environment with super friendly staff. What I love is that they actually care about the health of your nail, unlike some of the last salons I'd been frequenting - and I've been getting manicures for 16 years. My nails were brittle, weak, and ugly from the last salon and with the care and expertise of the Polaris staff, I feel proud to show them off, even naturally. I highly recommend their services.
