She explained that because I'm still making payments on my vehicle, I could only register it for one year instead of two (if you own your vehicle outright, you can register it for up to two years). She also let me know I'd need to bring my current registration, driver's license, and the actual vehicle for a VIN inspection. She suggested making an appointment online before coming in. I figured I'd be waiting several days for an appointment, but to my surprise, I logged onto the website around 2:00 p.m. and was able to book a 3:00 p.m. appointment that same day! Since I wanted to stop by Trader Joe's afterward, the Meridian location made perfect sense. I arrived just a few minutes after 3:00 p.m. The office is tucked away in a corner next to a kids store, so I was a little confused at first, but thankfully I rely on my GPS for everything. Once inside, I scanned the QR code from my appointment at the welcome kiosk, received my number, and found a seat among about 20-30 people in the waiting area. I had barely been sitting for a minute before my number was called. I honestly thought, "Today must be my lucky day!" Travis helped me with my registration from start to finish, and he was fantastic. He explained everything clearly, answered all of my questions, and even helped me with my personalized license plates. The plate combination I originally wanted wasn't available, so he suggested another option that I actually like even more. Now I can't wait for my new plates to arrive! This was my very first DMV experience in Idaho, and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. The office was clean, the process was quick and organized, and Travis provided outstanding customer service. If every DMV experience were like this, no one would dread going! Welcome to Idaho, indeed!

I get it. The DMV can be the topic of a lot of jokes. There's even a new show out now called…read more'DMV'. That's not been our experience here. We were at the DMV for title updates three times this past week, and while the popular perception is that Flash from Zootopia is running the place, that's not right. Every staff member was polite, fast, and courteous. Darryl attended to us on the last visit and was very patient with us as we missed a signature on the title document. I also liked how some of the booths were personalized. One booth had multiple sloths. Here are some tips. Book online and save time Show up about 10 mins early Enter your booking ID from your email and get your ticket. You may be called immediately Have the right people attending. If your name is not on the title, whether it's the updated one or the new one, nothing can be done. There is a credit/debit card fee of 2% or something, but there is an ATM in the lobby. Either pay the 2% fee or bring cash or a check. Considering my own experiences with the DMVs in other states, we're very fortunate to have convenient DMV locations with personable folks working there.

They only take appointments, which I had, so it wasn't as if she was overworked or overwhelmed by the number of people. I think it takes more energy to be a grouchy, rude person that it does to smile and make even a slight effort to try to be pleasant. A colleague of mine recently expressed his frustration with the Idaho Court system because they'd…read moremade information public on their website (https://www.idcourts.us/repository/start.do) about his son's recent criminal case, a result of a judge inexplicably unsealing the court record. I decided to check this website out. Idaho doesn't stint on what information is available on their website when you do a name search (that is, once you get past the maddening ReCaptcha that forces you to type in letters and numbers on the screen that you can't read). So yeah, I had a field day looking up Idaho relatives on the website and finding out stuff that tends not to make its way into Christmas newsletters. I learned Aunt Lila got two speeding tickets last year, never mind that she is 93 years old. You go girl! More seriously, my one cousin sued her brother earlier this year. This is something I would've never expected, knowing these two. Sure, it can be salacious and gossipy to know these kind of things, but my point is that maybe more information is better than less, because it reduces the possibility of jumping to false conclusions about why somebody has a court record. For example, Washington State has a similar web site, but available information is very limited. If you look my name up, you'll see I was a defendant in Clark County District Court in 2012. That snippet of information is the full extent of my case's public record. You know, district courts handle criminal cases such as assault and DUI. Did I commit a crime of this gravity? Nah, I was nailed in a WSP dragnet for going 65 in a 60 heading south on I-5 in Vancouver at milepost 8, just one mile past where the speed limit drops from 70 to 60. You wouldn't know it was a minor traffic infraction by inspecting Washington's website. But I wasn't about to shell out the $200+ administrative fee (or was it $300?) to keep the ticket off my record.

These local heroes graciously came not once, not twice, but three times in 24 hours... turns out…read moreone of my smoke detectors was faulty. Quick Backstory: As my neighborhood has history of power surges, & I have brain disease & a tenant- I have to be extra extra diligent with my smoke detector (& electrical) maintenance- so I am diligent. In fact I had just replaced all four of my smoke detectors last year... which leads to why I was panicked when my living room alarm randomly started going off... of course after hours, in the evening, starting while I was out of the home each time... Long story short, these heroes checked (& changed) each set of batteries in every rm but my tenants (who was trying to sleep) so they came back the again the next day (while my tenant was away at his work) to check his alarm too. When I found my alarm going off a third time (upon entering my home later that night)...they came yet again, confirmed it was 1 of the 4 hardwired that was faulty.... (Yes I'm ordered a new 1 & issue set to be solved.) Key is that they were so patient & professional & provided me tremendous relief. I'm ever so grateful to be in a community with such great local heroes!
