Big Mike is the chef and they have food almost every night. Wednesday night there is a dinner special (spaghetti, meatloaf, etc.) and Thursday night there are wings in several flavors. Big Mike also has other BBQ fare such as ribs, pulled pork, mac and cheese and his collard greens are the best I have ever had. They have Bingo every Saturday morning starting at 10:00AM (doors open at 9:0AM). There is breakfast and chicken salad available for a small charge. The Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation is a partner of the Cedar Creek & Belle Grove National Historical Park (National Park Service) and offers their own passport stamp. It is located across from Belle Grove, the plantation home that was utilized by the Union during the battle (and if you go across for a tour there, the guides can show you some of the damage sustained on the exterior), and whose land constitutes much of the battlefield.

Berryville is another small town near Winchester, VA, with a fascinating history. This stately…read morebrick post office was originally built in 1939 and has been refurbished, keeping the integrity of the period in mind. Some of the deterioration of the crown moulding on the outside of the structure had to be specially crafted to match the rest of the authentic moulding. Inside there are many original brass fixtures and mail slots, post boxes, wooden doors, desks and podiums. One unique feature of this post office is the huge mural of Clifton farm painted by a local artist of that period, E.S. Lewis. Dubbed "New Deal Art" from1939, as Franklin Roosevelt's effort to end the Great Depression, it's one of only 2 murals of its kind in the area. A plaque dedicating the building is displayed next to the post office counter. A knowledgeable and friendly postal worker informed me of the historic value of this post office! I not only got a history lesson, but was able to admire the lovely brick and wrought iron architectural aspects of this pristine post office. Hours 9:00-5:00 M-F, 9:00-12:30 Sat.

The solution I was given was to spray some WD40 in the lock and if that doesn't work, come into the post office and pay $35 to replace the lock and wait a week for new keys. I was told that even though it's their mailbox and they supplied the lock, it is not their responsibility when the device fails.

The parking lot is moderate size with a few parking spaces In the front and a few more in the back. There are two self service machines that you use to buy stamps, print labels, and more. There are never enough staff so there is always a line no matter the time of day. The hours of operation on weekdays are usually 9am to 6 pm which is great compare to usps in Maryland where they closed at 4:30 pm. All in all, I would recommend anyone who need to use usps services to come to this location.

If that's a concern for you, I would suggest finding another bridge or stopping to ask the owners if it's okay to pass. That someone was respectful in that they drove very slowly and did not "splash" through any potholes to make them any bigger. Built in 1896, renovated in 1989 and then updated again in 1990, this is a multiple Kingpost through truss bridge. It crosses Smith Creek and is open to vehicular traffic. There is a "caution" sign that indicates that the bridge is not weight rated and you're crossing at your own risk. I did not drive my car across the bridge. There is a small spot on the west side of the bridge to stop your vehicle and not block any potential traffic. You can walk down a bit to get a good profile picture of the bridge. The bridge is in amazing condition considering that it is over 100 years old. It could be the fact that it's on private land that keeps the idiots from damaging it and also limits the amount of traffic it has to carry. Our clerk politely told her she was welcome to purchase and the customer got all huffy. The clerk unfortunately went on the defensive because I'm sure she is literally attacked about this topic repeatedly. Listen folks, these guys work continuously for all of us, they are mandated to sell not give away products that cost them to use without a return on investment. I personally hate the rising cost of everything, including postage. So, again, come prepared and if you aren't don't give the clerks grief because you have to shell out a few clams to do what you should have done ahead!!
