The long wait is a good sign. It is proof that your doc will listen to you and give you enough time. Doctors who don't run behind are the ones who barely listen to your history or symptoms. They make a snap decision and write a scrip for something frm Big Pharma. And they are convinced they are right based on this incredible lack of reflection or consideration given to understanding your unique body and human life. Yelp Polina Liss review I do love Dr. Polina as a person. I think she's a curious and smart physician who tries to be on top of medical innovations and naturopathic supplements. She also does notice some issues most doctors won't which is a great thing. But that's about it. I switched to her a few years back mainly to treat Hypothyroidism, thinking she'd be able to advise on holistic treatments. I believe the main issue is the administrative side of her office and her staff is extremely unfocused and disorganized. Basically: you go to one appointment - dr Polina does take the time to listen - and then you are recommended several supplements based on the issues you describe. She's not making money off of them as you just get them yourself later. BUT, there's no follow up whatsoever and she doesn't seem to remember what she told you to take. Not to mention the "treatment" was never written down, just loosely relayed during the appointment, so you always leave confused. So what happens is you spend your money on buying supplements and have to remember to take (several) but you're not sure if they really make any difference as there's no talking about it next time unless you purposefully ask about each. It's not my job to remind her what she prescribed last time! It's like there's not a real treatment in place. And the recommendations feels a bit impulsive and confusing. She claims to be holistic but I don't feel I'm treated as a whole nor that my "treatment" makes sense in the big picture or treating me holistically. It's an "aloof" kind of situation which brings your anxiety up instead of really making your quality of life better. Her staff is quite a mess, majorly her main secretary. She's probably been there for years and acts like the gatekeeper but is not that helpful. Many times specially after pandemics they don't really pick up the phone despite working from their home. You leave a message and no one gets back to you. I'm fine with waiting 1-2 days to hear back, but the thing is they don't get back at all. I've ran out of meds for days now and just gave up. I'll go back to my old doc and get new prescriptions from him instead. Not to mention I don't think she's a specialist in thyroid treatment whatsoever and I'm having horrid symptoms since the last time she changed my meds. Fatigue, wild temperature fluctuations and feel like I'm running on empty. It's actually a good thing I ran out of meds as I can tell some horrid symptoms are gone and it was prob the meds she recommended. With all of this, I'll have to go back to my old Thyroid doctor. While I was with him I never experienced side effects related to my Thyroid. I will always love Dr Polina, she's an amazing caring person. So the 2 stars review. But the lack of follow through and a clear, defined course of treatment on medical issues is making me leave and not wanting to come back. I feel it might be good to see her for some nutritional advice, but not for major illnesses. read more

Dr Liss is one of those rare Primary Care Physicians deeply schooled in Alternative/Holistic/Complimentary medicine. Yet she takes every form of insurance vs $$$ out of pocket! She spends huge amount of time with you as a patient, there is no rush. She's amazing with chronic fatigue, auto-immune, hormone, inflammatory type illnesses. Went to her for years when I lived in NYC, and was in the midst of serious illness. A true healing partner. And she's available on Sundays too! A real dedicate physician to the practice of healing and service. One downside: you do have to wait. She often runs late, even an hour or two on your appointment time, because she's given other patients the same level of depth and attention. So bring a book or ipad, know that that's the deal here, and in return you'll have access to one of the most caring, thoughtful primary care doctors in NYC --- who understands chronic health issues from a progressive/holistic perspective, but isn't going to cost you $500 out of pocket to see her. read more

I found Dr Liss's name on a list of recommended Drs when I was searching for someone to help me get to the bottom of my health issues. I had been feeling terrible for months and FINALLY decided to take care of myself and get some answers. There was a notation by Dr Liss's name indicating she may not be accepting new patients but I decided to take a chance and call anyway. From the beginning, things were strange. After a bit of a wild goose chase, I found her current number, although the receptionist just answers the phone as "Doctor's office" (not the name OF the Dr). Not bad, just odd and mostly confusing from the very beginning. I was thrilled to know she WAS accepting new patients, but her next available appt was in December (3 months away). Deciding this was an indication she was a much sought after Dr, I booked and waited, feeling progressively worse every day. I called to ask about cancellations but was told the list was very long and it was highly unlikely I would get in early. December came, and I didn't receive any reminders so I called to confirm, only to leave several messages before getting a confirmation the day before my appointment. I arrived to a very dark, messy, office. The walls are a weird shade of pink, there are boxes, papers & brochures strewn about everywhere. The office furniture is a mish-mash of second hand cast offs. People were dozing off in the wheeled desk chairs they use as waiting room seating. It looked kind of like a state funded clinic. BUT I KEPT THINKING IF SHE'S A GOOD DOCTOR I DONT CARE. The receptionist didn't have any forms for me to fill out but she did rip off a piece of notebook paper and asked me to write down my name, date of birth and address. I waited over an hour to see the Dr. Again, very old looking patient rooms. The nurse's computer sits on an end table, which is stacked atop an old wood coffee table. When I finally saw the Dr, she was nice, quiet, took lots of notes as I talked, and then ordered a ton of lab work. She said we would wait to see what the results were and take it from there. She didn't offer any wisdom or advice in the interim, just to get the blood drawn there in her office. She told me the results would arrive in 2 weeks and that although she couldn't see me for another month, she would post the results to a patient portal website I could sign up for. Two weeks later was Christmas and the labs weren't posted but I assumed it was due to the holiday. After three weeks I called to inquire and received a message from someone who read my results over the voice mail but I could not understand due to her thick accent. She said that I needed MORE tests because some labs didn't process correctly (which I discovered later was due to her office submitting the labs improperly...this was noted on the lab result sheets that I finally saw at my next appointment). The follow-up appointment was on a Sunday, which again was weird but I thought was indicative of the Drs commitment and quality of performance. WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF EXAGGERATION I WAITED THREE HOURS IN THE WAITING ROOM! THREE! A woman who was also waiting (and intermittently sleeping) told me she's been going to Dr. Liss for 20 years and that kind of wait was completely normal for her, but that she didn't mind because Dr. Liss was worth it. I found this so confusing because 3 hours past your appointment time is ridiculous but someone saying she was that good of a Dr made me wonder if she was right. But I sat there as a guy sitting in as the receptionist watched international news on his computer very loudly in the waiting room, yelled at one of two delivery men delivering food to people in the office, vocalized his disagreement with his computer news and smelled his stinky lunch/dinner as he ate it (also loudly). After 3 hours of waiting (I asked to reschedule but desperately wanted to just get some answers after 4.5 months!), I finally saw the Dr. She had no answers, she "forgot" to run some basic things like my iron levels and wanted to re-test the things that didn't get processed. Another month before the next appointment? NOPE. Done. I found a new Dr. who is super professional, respects my time, digs for answers, offers lots of helpful, educated insight, has a clean, organized, orderly facility and employs respectable, respectful assistants. P.S. It took me 3 attempts to cancel my future appointments with Dr. Liss because you are not allowed to leave messages on her office machine and while I waited on hold for 4 minutes only to have the receptionist ask for my number to call me back (she would NOT take my quick cancellation message because she was "with someone"), she never returned my call. I emailed as well but ended up calling and waiting AGAIN, before finally getting the message that I am not returning as a patient here. I really did try to give her the benefit of the doubt but my health is worth more. read more

Dr. Liss is an excellent physician. If you are looking for a physician who is well trained in conventional and holistic medicine, see her. As others have said, you may have a long wait for your appointment, as she is booked way in advance and even when you have your appointment, you may have to wait several hours to be seen, as she tends to run behind in her schedule. But I believe it is only because she is so thorough with her patients. She is a rare find in the world of medical doctors. Highly recommended. read more

I can not say enough good things about Dr. Liss! She is THAT good that I do not mind a 2 hour wait! It is because she really takes her time with you. The doctor is thoughtful and always happy to devote time to phone calls etc. Has an open mind and is flexible to accommodate various request, Rx's, etc. I would highly recommend her. I have been going to Dr. Liss for about 15 years now. She is the most thorough amazing doctor. I travel over an hour now from upper Westchester to go to her. There was no way after moving out of the city that I would change doctors. She is always available to her patients and spends time with you to answer all your questions. I've been going to dr liss for 4 years. She is a great doctor with knowledge in a wide variety of health issues. She runs a lot of different tests most doctors don't run and is great at getting to the root of your health issues. She takes a holistic approach and doesn't just treat symptoms but treats the cause. She is good with using hormones and supplements. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. She is friendly and spends an ample amount of time with every patient.
