From the quaint decor to the traditional food, we love coming here. At six on a Saturday there were only 4 tables filled, but one was a rambunctious party enjoying themselves so much it filled the room (in a good way). While I'd been in before, it had been quite a while. I really appreciated he menu improvements including gluten free indicators and more in depth item descriptions. Love the beer and wine selection. I had a Pinot I couldn't pronounce and my companion had a traditional Polish beer. I started with the pickle soup- total perfection in a cup. I then moved on the the beef stew- mine was over fried to be gf, and my partner had it in a potato pancake. We both were groaning with how good it was. Poland and NW Ukraine share some of the same meals. I grew up with stuffed cabbage, pirogis, etc. so am familiar with the cuisine. From salads to dessert, this food is authentic and tasty. This small restaurant was very clean, modern and nicely decorated. My wife and I shared a combo plate which was plenty for us and gave us a good sampling of Polish food. She did a great job managing all the tables at one time. The food was so amazing, authentic, fresh and made to order. Ask about the history of the owners and you'll marvel at their tenacity. My Dad wanted to go somewhere different for Father's Day... so we landed here. The initial draw was how cute it looked from the pictures and not too many tables which meant to me it was not loud and noisy. So we came and had what I would rate as an okay meal. We came at around 3:30, which was ideal as it was not too busy. The place is absolutely adorable inside, super clean with lots of what appeared to be Polish decor. I immediately ordered a Polish beer they had on draft (they also had a nice selection of bottled Polish beer), and it was very tasty. We ordered various things -- my Dad ordered the beet soup and 8 piece Pierogi dinner (beef); my Mom and I had the Pierogi dinners with mushroom and Sauerktaut and the Hubs had the classic Rueben. All of our responses to the taste of the food was "it's okay". I felt as though there was no real presentation going on with Pierogi dinners -- just dumplings put on a plate, nothing more nothing less. I did absolutely love the vegetable salad that came with my husbands sandwich though. Was an okay experience, and it was fun to try something different. This place is BURSTING with authentic Polish energy and mouth-watering food and drinks! So much Polish pride and representation from every little detail in the decor to a menu that goes as far as to serve rare cherry liquor that is an absolute must-try if they happen to have some (they list it as grandma cherry liqueur?). I returned last night for my birthday dinner. I ordered Stuffed Cabbage, Pierogies stuffed with meat as well as mushrooms and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and Borscht. Everything tasted just like my mother, father and grandmother made at home. It was a wonderful meal that brought back many pleasant memories. When I mentioned to the server Sharon that it was my Birthday, she gave me a free slice of Apple cake. Excellent! The food is homemade and delicious here! Today was our third visit to Polish Cottage and we can definitely vouch for their exemplary food. Polish Cottage prides itself with serving authentic and traditional Polish food made from scratch. I am no expert on Polish cuisine but what we've happily partaken so far has been delicious and satisfying. I always get the combo plate which comes with stuffed cabbage roll, smoked polish sausage, hunter's stew and 4 pieces of pierogi (one can choose either one or two types of pierogis). I also make it a point to get a half order of the potato pancakes which comes with sour cream and apple sauce. It goes well with everything on my combo plate. My partner-in-dine consistently orders the breaded pork cutlet. He admits that it's a simple dish but he attests to its topnotch savoriness. They offer four types of pierogis - beef, potatoes and cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom, and sweet farmer's cheese. I've tried all of them except the sauerkraut and mushroom and they've all been lip-smackingly wonderful! It's always good to find a restaurant with great food, but it's doubly better to return again and again knowing that you can expect the same level of awesomeness every time. read more

At Polish Cottage not only are there pierogies galore-get them, all of them, the beef pierogies, the potato and cheese pierogies, the sweet pierogies-there is also an experience to be had. Once inside, you are immediately transported from the hustle and bustle of the city to what feels like 1950s Krakow, a wooden bar standing in the back with what seemed to be traditional polish cook wear and cutlery used as decoration. Polish dance costumes and other treasures that seem right out of a small-town Poland movie set are strewn about on the walls. Traditional polish music is the only thing playing on the speakers in this cottage themed restaurant. It was small and quiet, yet somehow overpowered the loud metropolis like area its located in. The aforementioned pierogies-a dumpling that is usually boiled and then pan fried-are similar in build to potstickers but have thicker dough and are traditionally filled with potatoes and cheese, or shredded beef. On the side of these dumplings you'll find sour cream, bacon bits, and grilled onions-a hearty meal in every way. I selected and now recommend a side of Hunters Stew for the pierogies. Bits of smoked meats with sauteed sauerkraut made this sour contrasting dish the perfect pair to these delectable satchels of potato and beef. Alongside all of this-a Polish sausage sandwich with sauerkraut, a chipotle dressing and lightly pickled cucumbers-a meal that sounds busy and sleep inducing, was actually fresh and lighter than its heavy and hearty counterparts. The sausage was delightful, juicy, and bursting with flavor on the inside, the casing was just the right texture. Refreshing and delicious to say the least, our plates were empty within 15 minutes, no leftovers in sight. Once you have some, you'll only want more. Fear not though, the folks at Polish Cottage seem to be aware of this dilemma, which is why they offer 5lb packages of sausage, and their pierogies frozen by the pound to take home. The sausages are imported from the famous Andy's Deli in Chicago, with all the rest of their ingredients being imported directly from Poland, it makes sense everything is perfectly flavored. All of the dishes served are curated from scratch right in their kitchen in Southern Arizona. This is the most authentic experience you could possibly have without actually being in a quaint Polish village. From the moment you set foot in the restaurant, the experience begins; but the food arriving changes everything. You take a generous bite of your Hunters stew with a heap of sauerkraut, and you become warm inside. A calming feeling sweeps over you and sets in. You feel as if you were in a simpler time and place, a place that set the tone for why these dishes were created in the first place. You almost forget some of the dark influences of modern Polish food-namely Germany's invasion of Poland in WWII. As you sit and revel in the visuals of Polish culture, and soak in the music, you can't help but notice some of those German influences. Potato pancakes on the menu, everything has sauerkraut, even the hunters stew bears resemblance to Bigos, a traditional German dish with the same ingredients. We just moved to Tucson for a 3 month assignment. I saw this on Yelp and it was on the top of my list but didn't know when I'd be able to make it. Saw it on my left while driving to our hotel this evening. Nikki was working and she's the best. She was cooking, serving, bar tending, and cleaning. This darling, charming restaurant looks like someone's extended dining room. It's cozy, comfortable and inviting with attentive and helpful service. But it is not sizable -- seems like it could only comfortable seat about 30 or so people. Interesting: The hostess/server will reserve tables in advance and without request for the anticipated larger groups. On the menu are items the restaurant boasts are made in house and from scratch. Among other options, you have the choice of sour rye soup, beet soup, chicken and pork cutlets, veal schnitzel, potato pancakes, kielbasa and Reuben sandwiches, vegetable salads (with apples, carrots, eggs and potatoes), broiled salmon and desserts like cheesecake, kolaczki and crepes. Polish Cottage also cares the obligatory, all-famous pierogies with several different options for fillings. We were first-timers, so we opted for the dinner for two which, at $34, came with two stuffed cabbage orders, two sausages, a beef stew, two buns and eight pierogies. You get two choices for the pierogies, so we asked that our dumplings be stuffed with potatoes and cheese, and also beef. For dinner, the serving size was able. A great amount of food for the both of us. It was my first time eating pierogies and I found them to be just OK. They were served with sour cream (interestingly served in a to-go container instead of a more sustainable option), which did not enhance the flavor. Of the two, I like the one stuffed with potatoes and cheese the best. What I loved, loved, loved, however, were two dishes: the stuffed cabbage and the stew. The cabbage roll is full of pork and rice, then smothered with a tomato sauce. It was quite delicious! Not rich, but certainly not flat in flavor. I loved that, despite the filling and topping, you could still distinctively taste the cabbage. And the cabbage held its form pretty well, indicating that the dish was made fresh. The stew -- I need that recipe! It contains cabbage, beef and I don't know what else. Luscious, deep flavor! I was stuffed, yet found myself wanting another cup of stew. On the drink menu, you will find Bulgarian and Romanian Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. There is also a Serbian Riesling and a Tsantali Blanc from Greece. There's also a dessert wine from Croatia. All reasonably priced at less than $6 per glass. There is also a selection of Polish, Slovak and Russian beers. All in all, a wonderful experience! And having held the Polish Cottage in my bookmarks for years and years. Don't wait that long to give them a try. read more

Ok so I went there for the pierogis. I don't know in what land that pierogis aren't served with butter or at least oil on the side, but y'all need to load those things up with melted butter and onions. Oil is really not traditional where I come from, and it is not really a desired option for me. Source: My grandma was Polish, met my grandpa in Germany and came over and my mom learned to make them from her. We always drowned them in butter and onions. We ate the potato and cheese ones along with sauerkraut and mushroom. The mushroom addition was weird. A sauerkraut only option would be nice. Some of the food was good. Pierogis weren't bad, but they could be so much better if they were served right. They had a little machine to pay the Bill at the table, which was nice, but the server just opened it to the total and didn't show the itemized bill. Oh and she brought out rolls with no butter. I had known about this place for many years, but never had an opportunity to go, until I found myself in the neighborhood, looking for something to eat. After noticing the sign, I realized it was time. The inside literally looked like my grandmother's living/dining room. It was a big open area, decorated with antiques (some of which I recognized). It was a little jarring to tell you the truth, especially given the way my grandmother's house smelled (which I do not have fond memories of). However, instead of smelling like a weird combination of sawdust and baby powder, I smelled the pierogi that a group at another table ordered, and was instantly transported to those wonderful Sunday nights in Jersey where my grandmother would make fresh cheese pierogies, and we'd wash them down with Cel-Ray (basically celery soda). But first mozzarella sticks. Yes, they serve mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, and let me tell you, they are awesome! It was clear that they were freshmade rather than frozen. It was very refreshing to eat them, since most places serve frozen mozzarella sticks. The main attraction however was, you guessed it.....pierogis! Not wanting to buck tradition, I got the cheese and potato variety with a side of cucumber salad. The pierogis come topped with braised onions, giving them a nice bite. Overall, a wonderful place with excellent customer service! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a little slice of home, or if you are wanting to try something new. This is something I rarely do, give 1 star... to be fair I did not even get to try the food. I ordered take via grubhub thru Yelp. My order was accepted and actually still shows that's it's ready for pick up... I arrived at 7:45 right when they said it would be ready. There were three tables occupied in the restaurant and one waitress. I let her know I was here for a takeout order. She looked at me kinda flustered and told me to walk over to the register and take a look at the menu. I explained I already put the order into grubhub thru Yelp . She went into the kitchen and came out saying the chef said that order was canceled. I said oh not mine wasn't, it's right here. I showed her on my phone that it was current. She asked if she could take my phone into the kitchen to show the chef and I let her. She came out and said I'm sorry but that's not the grubhub app, you are in the wrong app. I showed her the name of the restaurant, my order and everything. She said we don't have any order. I was like OK I will take it up with Yelp but can I just get food and pay (again) She said no, I'm sorry but we're really busy, and the chef doesn't have time. Doesn't have time?! To do the job he chose and is getting paid for?! They literally had 7 other people in the restaurant. I look at her dumbfounded and explained that I ordered 40 minutes ago, It was pierogis they probably had to reheat and a side salad. I wasn't ordering a rack lamb! She stated that if the Yelp charge went through I could come back tomorrow and show them to be refunded....go back to a place that refused to serve me to ask for money back for an order they just didn't want to make. I have spent a lot of time all over Poland and this restaurant doesn't come close. never mind that there is no barszcz and no lard on the menu, the staples of Polish dining, when we were asked for a drink order I asked if they had soplica and got a blank stare. okay, so imports are tricky, but they didn't even know what it was. I ordered the bigos, and got a plate of standard sauerkraut with some bits of ham topped with an over processed kielbasa. the potato pancakes were pretty good, but a far cry even from those you can get in the dolinas up in the Tatras. Huh. Thought I reviewed here before. Well I come here really for one reason...the beet soup! That is pretty much it. I do not like their kielbasa because it is too greasy. Frankly when I go out of the country I always bring my own because I cannot find good kielbasa here. However their meat cabbage rolls are amazing! That is what to order here in my opinion anyway (besides the beer soup). Great flavor. Nice portion. Not much to say but YUM. Service is always friendly. Parking is not great but there is parking. Today was the grand re-opening of the Polish Cottage. I was looking forward to some delicious food, still looking even though we just finished lunch at the Polish Cottage. There were not enough rolls for one apiece, when the "fresh baked " rolls arrived about forty minutes later they were not hot, as expected, in fact part of one was cold. Diners arriving after us did not get a basket of rolls. Orders were taken, I selected the beef pierogies and sauerkraut & mushroom pierogies with the three toppings (grilled onions, bacon and sour cream.). Over an hour later our meals arrived. The toppings were probably half a teaspoon each, except the sour cream, which was not enough to have a bit with each bite. The beef was puréed like baby food which was unexpected, as well as lacking flavor. The sauerkraut and mushroom also lacked flavor. Both were not hot upon arrival. There were a few left and I asked for more toppings only to be told that it was to be used sparingly. The waitress finally returned and said we could have more toppings, my friend had also used her entire thimbleful of the onions. The selected side was a Polish salad that sounded delicious as described by the waitress. The eggs stole the flavors of other ingredients. Apparently their computer lost our orders, according to the waitress who took them again with the explanation that was why it was taking so long to to be served. Finally, the bills were issued. Half price for ten pierogies, their advertised special, amounted to $8.97 including a 20% tip. She gathered the various payments & bills for processing. When I checked before signing the amount was changed to $18.67 as she was charging for the toppings that were not received; that must have been why the chef was having a conference with the staff. Told her that she did not say anything about a charge and I was not paying it, still had not received them anyways. She took mine and my friend's bills for adjustment. Told them good luck on the way out. The best part was the minuscule amount of bacon that had great flavor. read more
