We had great difficulty finding a local roofer--with three companies, we faced multiple no shows, long waits for call backs and quotes, and trouble with scheduling. It seemed like none of the roofing companies had time for us. Someone suggested we take an alternate route and work with a general contractor...in comes Stewart Construction. Their quote was comparable to the roofing numbers we had seen, and we were scheduled to begin work two weeks later. S.C. was patient while we deliberated over colors and options, and they discussed in great detail how one product compared to another. We went with a 25 (30?) year architectural shingle by CertainTeed. S.C.'s carpenters uncovered a great deal of rot in the frame and nearby siding (half of our roof was 35+ year old metal w/ no plywood underneath). Working hard in the bitter cold, they repaired the damage at little extra cost to us. The porch section of the roof needed rolled out asphalt, which S.C. suggested we complete in the spring to avoid cracking the material. I appreciated that they were concerned with the manufacturer's recommendations and the longevity of the roof. When warm weather settled in, the guys came back and finished up. Overall, I was impressed with Stewart Construction's communication, respect for their client, and commitment to a job well done. When we do other projects around our home, I will certainly contact them again.

During that time, Top Notch Roofing caused our home to flood, causing the bedroom ceiling to collapse and requiring full insulation and ceiling replacement. The living room developed two additional leaks due to their shoddy work, which meant more ceiling repairs and repainting the entire open-concept space. Our front yard was left destroyed after equipment and materials sat there for over 90 days. It wasn't just a mess; the material sat there for an entire summer; killing our lawn in the process. The crew was inconsistent at best; often no-shows, with little to no cleanup when they did come. When asked, they said they were from "Lowell"; which we assumed was local (Lowell, VT), but it turned out they were commuting from Lowell, MA. To our house in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Gabe and Drew built porch stairs that weren't up to code. When Dave, the owner, finally came to assess their work, he made them tear it out and rebuild it, but not before we were treated to the comedy gold that was Drew jumping up and down on the steps in an attempt to prove they were "fine." Dave also made everybody clean up the front yard, which took close to two hours between four people (Drew, Gabe, Jessica, Dave). Despite claiming on their website to be "fully insured," we learned that their insurance only covers subcontractors, not their own crew. So any work performed by Gabe or Drew or supervised by them isn't covered. Their own insurance company assessed $86,000 in damages to our home, and those are just the parts they acknowledged. I asked them about the diverters and they could not find them, so they put 2 little ones on under the shingles and now the shingles are lifting, and never put the large one back on the roof where the water comes down. The manager and the woman in the office told me 8-9 times and 5-6 months that they would be back to put the Large diverter on. They never came back to put it on and the shingles are lifting up and Now I have water pouring down my roof valley everytime there is a storm. and Angi and I keep after them to , but they wont. The roof cost me $18,500 , but they wont even come back to complete the Job. They could have come back and made me happy so I could give them a 5 star rating, but they won't They dropped the ball and took off for 5-6 months now

Wow! What a HUGE success our retaining wall pathway project has been! David Burton produced a superb design. Jeremiah and Sam busted their butts, through two very hot and humid weeks. They were always polite, never in the way, and highly meticulous. In my opinion, they are also highly skilled, operating excavators and other machinery expertly in tight and difficult terrain. Every time (and there were several) that I worried about a placement or a height or grade or whatever, Jeremiah stopped what he was doing, listened patiently, and then took whatever measure to allay my fears. He was kind, considerate, and responsive, as was Sam. It's fair to say that Distefano Landscaping overall did a superb job for us in every imaginable way. And the job came out right around the quoted price, even though there were some bumps (like buried stumps) along the road.
