The Covered Bridge in Littleton NH…read more There are many covered bridges throughout the State of New Hampshire, this one in the town of Littleton, at the edge of the White Mountains. The Riverwalk Covered Bridge wasn't visible from the main road but is located behind Main Street. I believe the building next to it is the Schilling Beer Co, the one with a cool waterfall behind its 18th century grist mill building on the river. We parked behind the shops and walked down towards the historic sign. We were able to see some great views of the river as we walked across the covered bridge. The bridge is long and beautiful. We were impressed in how large the bridge was. At the other end of the bridge is a Farmers Market building. Very pleasant walk... we then made our way on foot to check out Main Street. Review #3042

If you're anywhere nearby - be sure to check out this gem, have breakfast at the Coffee Pot, a bowl of clam chowder at the Diner at the other end of town and explore the many shops in town, including a League of NH Craftsmen shop full of gorgeous work in all media. If you're lucky the Piano Project will still be along Main Street - in the spring and summer time. This town is worth a visit!

I wandered into the toy and book shop and was greeted by a sweet doodle breed who is their mascot. S/he was so cute if it stood still you would think it was a stuffed. Noticed some dog bowls on the sidewalk and a new K9 store opened recently. Way to go Littleton!!​ The flowers hanging along the street and people playing pianos are a wonderful touch. It's fine as you all can have whatever rules you would like. But unlike other spots in the state -- where outdoor places for coffee or beer tasting welcome our pooch -- we weren't successful in Littleton. The painted paws on the sidewalk (suggesting dog friendliness) seemed to us to be out of place. All said: #OskarTheGreatDane still gives it three stars with hopes of visiting again when conditions are different.

There is a sandy beach below this great bridge with lots of sand bars to walk along up the river. There are shallow spots but also a section that is really deep. The highlight is the rope swing under the bridge. There's always a line of people waiting to swing off into the water.

Its SMALL and a BLIND tunnel - only room for 1 car at a time, so before proceeding through, you must HONK your car horn and LISTEN for other honkers before proceeding through. Be wary, as many fender benders have happened here. And within seconds, its over- now you been though the famous HONK Tunnel. Thank you.

The two women that work there are not very friendly but not rude. If you have a disability and need to sit down there is only one chair, i was told to go outside. Lion and I went to check it out recently on a clear day. I am a lover of the oddball and kitschy. This meets the bill. It's made of granite, stretches down a narrow alleyway. It was pretty cool, really looks like a zipper. Simple but effective. Definitely worth a stop when visiting Barre.

I found this on the map that way when passing through Barre, so we stopped to check it out. The surprise of seeing what it is when we got to it, and sharing the experience with other visitors to town was all well worth it. Plus, we parked the car and got to some local spots, and visited the very nice library. It was a good little visit to town. So, if you're in the vicinity of Barre, definitely don't miss this. I was thinking maybe not worth it to drive more than an hour out of your way... but then again, if it's worth it to you, why not?

It was built in 1844, and the most famous of the (many) stories about this bridge is that back in the 1800's, a farmer's daughter, Emily, fell in love with a young man from a rich family, but his parents refused to allow their wedding to occur. The young man told Emily to wait on the bridge at midnight, but he didn't show, and she was so distraught, she is said to have taken her own life. Allegedly, her ghost appears during the nighttime around Halloween, haunting those who come to the bridge. We drove over the quiet bridge during a summer day, but we saw no sightings of Emily !!
