The inside of the cafe is just as impressive as on the outside, with the walls clad in dark wood, adorned with the occasional historical picture or tapestry. It is quite a spacious place, with a good variety of tables and seating, for smaller and larger parties; a minibus load of people came in when we were there. Menu wise, a huge variety from the homemade cakes like Bara brith, Millionaires Shortbread, Victoria Sponge, that sat temptingly in glass domes on a sideboard near to our table, to snacks like toast, sandwiches, teacakes etc. There was also a comprehensive range of cooked meals, like lasagne, chilli etc. Drinks wise, again a vast range of speciality teas, coffees and wine. Pity it was only mid-morning when we visited or we might have been tempted to sample more than just toast off the menu! The décor is very familiar (all dark wood, intentionally kept rustic). The medium-sized pub is divided into several different niches, and there's a small smoking/vaping area to the side. It's very appealing if you dig this traditional style. The barman on my visit was friendly enough, the beer I chose (Ludlow's The Boiling Well) was fresh and tasty. Nothing truly special about The Angel Inn, but it's certainly a fine place to hang out for a couple of pints if you want to avoid more modern brew pubs like the nearby Brewhouse & Kitchen.

The first thing you see when you enter this alehouse are the copper kettles they use for brewing - they also do tours and seminars on brewing. The pub covers two floors and several designated areas, so you can find a moderately quiet spot even if it's busy - which it frequently is. There's also a smoking area to the back on the ground floor. Superior pub grub is available throughout the day, plus several "small plate" options for lunchtime. Of these I chose the small cod & chips and the 3-egg cheese omelette - both were tasty and well-prepared, at UKP 5 each. The food was served fairly quickly, despite the fact that a party of "suits" were already marauding the premises at the time. The décor I found appealing, and the staff friendly and nimble on their feet. Warmly recommended for Lichfield!

This is a daytime establishment, catering to residents, tourists and Cathedral visitors. The building is a few hundred years old, and so has much to offer those of us who are rather tired of modern coffee shops etc. Whilst it serves coffee it also offers larger meals too, particularly over the lunch period. It's food, teas and coffees are all very tasty, and the ambience is warm and relaxed. Come here for delicious sandwiches, soups, hot meals, cakes and pastries. The staff welcome you warmly, and there's a choice of rooms in which to enjoy your delights. During better weather there are tables and chairs in the gardens at the rear of Chapters. The shelter garden location is very quiet, and backs onto Minster pool, so don't be too surprises if some ducks waddle onto the lawn. Generally parking is restricted in Cathedral Close, though there are public car parks less than five minutes walk away, (Bird Street Car Park is the closest) where you'll enjoy walking past the Minster Pool.

The inside is wooden and rustic in a quite trendy way and, although we didn't eat, the restaurant section looked pleasant too, with a reasonable amount of diners for a Wednesday evening. There was a good selection of drinks available and the bar staff were very professional, making sure the right glasses were selected for the beer, gin and soft drinks we ordered. Slice of cucumber in my gin and lemon tonic- very nice! I loved the outdoor seating, especially as it was a no smoking area!
