For a long time Steve and I have been wanting to go to the Westport Maritime Museum but never did due to always having the dogs with us but finally we made it here quite recently. The admission is $5 and that gives you the ability to explore the upstairs and downstairs of the main museum building, an adjacent building where a lighthouse lens is located and two other structures with large windows with whale bones housed inside them along with some other mammal bones. The cost of admission is totally worth with what you get to see and for me the main highlight was the lighthouse lens as I'm sure it was for a lot of visitors. Lots of clutter picked up from the ocean waters and used as artifacts which is fascinating (because a lot of this stuff came from various parts of Asia) and disturbing at the same time. Lots of other intriguing content to look at as well and a very nice gift shop. Great way to spend a bit of time while exploring the marina. I don't feel like you'd spend an enormous amount of time here. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half but it depends on your pacing but no need to wipe out a whole afternoon to fit this museum in.

After spending time at Kurt Cobain Memorial Park near Young Street Bridge, I walked over to his childhood home. The house is just around the corner. It has been refurbished and it is gated off. Someone else currently lives here, so all that you can do is take photos from the sidewalk. Cool historic place to check out, especially if you grew up a Nirvana fan like me. But there is not much else to see or do.

They paid $225,000...a bargain considering that the cardigan Cobain wore in 1993 on the set of "MTV Unplugged" sold at auction for $334,000. At the time of this review, you cannot go inside, but plans are in the works to make private tours available in the near future. Tours will begin about 1.5 miles away at a soon to be opened Nirvana tribute lounge and gallery cafe as zoning does not allow the home to operate as a traditional museum. It's great to see Aberdeen finally beginning to embrace Cobain's contribution to music history. Fans travel great distances from all around the world to find Cobain's beginnings and pay tribute in the town that helped to shape him. Just a few days prior to writing this review, the Aberdeen City Council unanimously voted to make February 20th (Cobain's birthday) Kurt Cobain Day.

My sister ordered scrambled eggs, but was given over-easy eggs. My husband's eggs were completely forgotten. My husband offered to eat my sisters eggs that were cooked wrong while she waited for her scrambled eggs to be prepared and delivered. I opened up my biscuit to put the whipped butter on it that was provided and the biscuit was luke-warm and didn't even melt the butter. I took a bite anyway and was disappointed at how dense, crumbly and salty it was. Thinking it was just me, I didn't say anything to my fellow dining companions. I moved on to the rustic potatoes and even though they looked nicely browned, the centers were undercooked. Unfortunately, the bacon was also overly salty. Because of all the salt, I went through two full glasses of water during my meal, of which I only ate half. My brother-in-law who had the biscuit breakfast sandwich said "what is so salty??" I said it was the biscuit. Everyone else at the table agreed. Someone else said their bacon was overly salty too. My brother in-law also mentioned that she forgot his cinnamon roll again. I was 16 when Nirvana made it big and wil always feel a connection with the band and the place they originated from for several reasons i can't get into now. This was the first year we were able to visit the museum since it opened a year ago. Last time I was there there was just a mural but now it was a full fleshed museum full of decent Kurt related artifacts and a great giftshop for grunge fans.(left with several books and tshirts based on vintage band tshirts Kurt wore). The artifacts were great but the experience wouldn't be half as amazing without the very insightfull tour guide. i have read 15 grunge books, 4 nirvana books, and it was stil full of inside knowledge I had never heard about. On top of that it was so amazing to hear the owners and people work there talk about their common pasion for everything grunge and Kurt Cobain. Talking to them really lifted to whole experience and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. Looking forward to going back next year to see what they added and do the tour of the Cobains resedence. Chuck was such a treat and so knowledgeable on everything Kurdt Cobain and Nirvana. When Lee and Chuck drove us over to the Cobain residence, that's when everything got real. The tour was so detailed and so much time was given to take it all in. My wife and I were so pleased! I'll definitely be coming back and bringing my kids so that they can also experience one of the greatest of our generation.
