Mirza Ghasemi - Northern Iranian appetizer made with eggpland, egg, garlic and seasoning with bread
    Jennie L.

So it is a really skinny restaurant on Whyte ave that I have walked by so often. It is small. It looks fast foodish. It doesn't scream relaxing on Whyte Ave. But based on what was open on a Saturday at around noon (and that I don't like brunch) we decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised. It is small. It isn't exactly a place you linger with a tea or a drink with. I noticed a lot of skip the dishes and I would recommend this. However the food was delicous. We ordered a number of dishes - Mirza Ghasemi - and appetizer made with eggplant, egg, garlic and seasoning, Gheymeh - yellow split peas, onon, cubed lamb and rice while my husband did the Shishlik - lamb with rice. Everything was delicous and flavourful. Our favourite was teh shishlik but everything I would eat again. And no doubt portions are huge Didn't love that it was served in take away containers. It cheapened the food. And the bread dried out quickly ...to quickly. But I would come back and explore what else they have to offer.

Dual KOOBIDEH Meal with an extra tomato

I've been ordering from POM for a few months now and this restaurant has quickly become my favorite in YEG! Their high quality food is always consistent. My go to order is the Dual KOOBIDEH Meal. I highly recommend getting an extra tomato with it! The meat is made with ground beef and lamb. It is served over rice with a fire roasted tomato, pickles and onions. It is also served with a delicious shallot dip. Everything that I've tried from POM has been amazing and I'm looking forward to visiting this restaurant in the near future!

    Beef and lamb kebab

Easily the best kabobs in the city. As soon as we entered the small restaurant, the cook put in new wood charcoals onto the fire, to get it ready for our order. My 9 year old loved the spectacle of the stoking fire, plus on a frigidly cold day, the warmth was perfect. We ordered two dishes and a salad to share between two adults and a child and it was the right amount, also the most cost effective. The dishes were a little pricey but probably makes sense for the business considering inflation? The kebabs were perfectly cooked - not dried out or overly charred. The grilled chicken breast was well cooked but not as flavourful as the beef and lamb kebabs. The rice was pretty with one type saffron coloured. The rice was light and fluffy, but needed some flavour. It was nice it came with some whipped butter. The grilled tomato included with the entree was a great. A good sweet and sour counterpoint to the juicy kebabs.

BEST kababs. Charcoal-roased and delicious. Side dishes are just okay -- not a great place for vegetarians.

The ambiance and atmosphere are very warm and inviting and I can say the same about the service. Our server was helpful, friendly and informative. I ordered the beef souvlaki lunch plate which came with rice and salad as well as a choice of garlic sauce, tzatziki, or tahini. We were also offered some homemade hot sauce as well. The food tasted really good and my colleagues enjoyed theirs as well. I'd like to visit again to try more of their menu. They have plenty of dishes that would be good for sharing as well.

It is really cute inside full of trinkets from Egypt that make you feel like you are in a baazar. The owner is super friendly and helpful. Really loved the customer service. We decided on a few dishes to try. We decided on the Chef's Platter that serves 2-3 although unless you have an appetite of a lumberjack, it will feed more. It comes with - Salad, Hawawshi (flatbread filled with meat), kushari (Egypt's national dish consisting of lentils and macaroni), baba Ganooj, Musakka as well as a bunch of skewers. Chicken, beef, kabab skewers, lamb shank and rice. We also ordered Egyptian tea which was delightful. Food took a while to come out. However it was all good except the lamb shank was on the dry side which was disappointing. I really enjoyed the salad and the baba ganooj. My husband enjoyed the meat dishes. However we both loved the Hawawshi. Give it a try!

Menu has so many different options but it doesn't fall far from grilled meat, rice, fresh salad, fries and warm puffy pita bread with hummus and tzatziki. Food was excellent. My husband went with the Sultan Kafta Plate Five patties served white rice, hummus, garlic, salad, fries, and one pita bread. While I went with the Beef Lamb Shawarma Plate Served with white rice, hummus, garlic, salad, fries, and one pita bread. I always get a tea here, because it is lovely and strong. Food came in a fast manner, and everything was fresh. My husband wasn't too thrilled with the spice profile of the Sultan Kafta plate, and probably won't get it again. He will probably stick with something with stronger notes like the Adana Kabab (my favourite). I enjoyed mine and the meat was plentiful. We are always too full to try dessert, but they look good in the display case. Service was friendly and prompt.

When I opened the box, there was a good portion of fries, salad, hummus, chicken, and rice. I dipped the pita into the hummus and it was smooth and delicious! The salad was fresh and flavourful. I can't wait to order again!

This place is tucked away in a strip mall in the north end. Pretty basic on the inside, but clean. It is a little confusing though, because they hand you the menus, and then they don't say that you needed to go up to order. We figured this out, but another couple left and I think it was I think that they thought they were not being served. Thorough menu but no real vegatarian options (just salad and hummus). I was surprised that there wasn't a falafel dish. Anyway, Hubby decided on the Iraqi kabobs, kiddo 1 went with a chicken shamarma wrap, and I chose the grilled fish. Birthday girl got the fries. Food came out a bit on the slow side, but it was really busy in there. Food was flavourful. My husband and I got a complimentary soup which was rich in taste. My fish was perfectly grilled, and it came with a boatload of seasoned rice. Hubby's kababs were spicy and delicious and came with the same rice as I but also a side salad and hummus and pita. I sampled the hummus and it was delicous. Nice and creamy. Both kids were excited about their dishes. Perhaps a little on the high side for price considering the ambiance, but food was good. I would come here again.

My fiancé and I typically share one order of chicken kabab as there is plenty of food for us. Their rice really stands out, which is so crucial when it is the base of this genre of cuisine. It has so much zest! The meals include delicious humus, and kebab-shop sauce (white garlic sauce). Further they have an unreal delicious salad included, which is particularly appreciated considering most shops put little to no effort into an included salad due to it not being the main dish. The attention to detail from the team at Kabsa is fabulous. Could not be happier having found my new summer-time staple!
