Menu has so many different options but it doesn't fall far from grilled meat, rice, fresh salad, fries and warm puffy pita bread with hummus and tzatziki. Food was excellent. My husband went with the Sultan Kafta Plate Five patties served white rice, hummus, garlic, salad, fries, and one pita bread. While I went with the Beef Lamb Shawarma Plate Served with white rice, hummus, garlic, salad, fries, and one pita bread. I always get a tea here, because it is lovely and strong. Food came in a fast manner, and everything was fresh. My husband wasn't too thrilled with the spice profile of the Sultan Kafta plate, and probably won't get it again. He will probably stick with something with stronger notes like the Adana Kabab (my favourite). I enjoyed mine and the meat was plentiful. We recently ordered 2 chicken shawarma lunch meals and got extra beef. When I received the bag, it was heavy so I knew there would be large portions. When I opened the box, there was a good portion of fries, salad, hummus, chicken, and rice. I dipped the pita into the hummus and it was smooth and delicious! The salad was fresh and flavourful. Both the hummus and salad would have me coming back. I had a few bites of the chicken and rice before I was too full to continue. I liked the chicken more than the beef, but it was good to try both. Food is perfect. Tables are usually readily available and a good menu. Service is pretty good for a resteraunt. Inside feels like a regular Mediterranean resteraunt but has a good asthetic. If you are closer to the south you can get takeout in the express location which I recommend. read more

I don't venture "north of the wall" very often but when I do it's usually for food. Such was the case on a recent Saturday evening when I visited the seemingly undisputed hot spot in town for Turkish and Lebanese cuisine. Open since 2011, Turquaz Kebab House has become a unique meeting place for families of all cultures and a cornerstone in the community. You'll find the restaurant in the Pembina neighbourhood, and yes, it's quite far north. I kept hearing about Turquaz Kebab repeatedly! They were named as the Best Restaurant North of the Core on CBC Edmonton's Best Restaurants 2019 list. And they're an Edmonton Journal darling, winning Best Lebanese Restaurant 2020 and Best Middle Eastern Restaurant 2020, Best Middle Eastern Restaurant 2021, and Favourite Lebanese Restaurant 2022 and Favourite Middle Eastern Restaurant 2022. I had to get the full experience for myself! The first thing that I noticed is that the restaurant is very large! A palace of Middle Eastern cuisine! You can't possibly miss their giant glowing sign with flames on the side. The expansiveness continues on the inside with multiple dining areas and even a huge water feature. They even have a prayer room and a wudu room. You might catch a glimpse of the busy open kitchen while on your way to your table and the friendly and attentive staff is helpful and prompt. I especially loved all of the beautiful and colourful Turkish mosaic lamps hanging all around the space. Once seated in a comfortable booth, I noticed that the restaurant filled up quite quickly with customers at every table. I loved seeing the multicultural clientele - Turquaz is clearly an inclusive and special place for anyone who enjoys delicious food. Turquaz focuses on top quality halal meats and products and the menu is fairly easy to follow because each item comes with a picture. To place your order you must go up to the front (which was somewhere else in a different room) and then the food is brought to your table. It's a bit of a fast-casual concept with more of a lean toward table service. It was too late in the day for a Turkish coffee so I opted for whatever seemed the most authentic, which was a drink called Ayran ($3.75). I had no idea what to expect. I didn't know if it would be a carbonated beverage or something else entirely. I didn't expect what I got (but I probably should have). It was similar to kefir, a cold savoury yogurt-based beverage. What I couldn't believe is how much of it I got - the cup was giant! I could never possibly drink it all myself! Imagine a thin, liquidy, unsweetened plain yogurt and you'll be on the right track to understanding this drink. It's quite tart but enjoyably creamy. You probably don't need an entire one all to yourself. We saw a few orders of Turkish Bead ($1.50 per piece) go by and we definitely wanted to have some of our own. I'd also heard that the Soup ($7.95) was excellent. The restaurant bakery uses an in-house stone oven for fresh and steamy baked goods, and I have to say that the Turkish bread was a huge highlight. Served with haydari (similar to tzatziki) for dipping, I loved these huge pillows of soft, warm, oven-fresh bread. It was the size of my face and when I ripped mine apart I was absolutely met with the promised steaminess from within. Simple and delicious, I loved the tangy haydari and each bite of warm, chewy bread. The soup, known as ezogelin soup, or lentil soup, was like a warm hug. Hearty and made with bulgur and red lentils, I liked the flavour profile which reminded me a bit of a roasted red pepper type of flavour. Think of a pea soup but with more of a kick. The bread and soup combo would make for a really lovely lunch all on its own. As a kebab house, you would be correct in assuming that there are many different types of kebab meats on the menu, all grilled to perfection on real charcoal. Let's do a kebab roundup! Turquaz serves; beef, chicken, lamb, kafta (ground beef), adana (ground lamb and beef), and taouk adana (ground chicken). For my main dish I went full platter. Lamb is one of my favourite meats so the Lamb Kebab (Two skewers of specially marinated Alberta lamb grilled on real charcoal served with sides of rice, fries, hummus, garlic sauce, fresh garden salad and pita bread - $24.95) seemed like an obvious choice. I love that each plate comes with so many different accompaniments, however, mine did not come with any pita bread. The lamb itself was tender and delicious. I could really taste the grilled charcoal flavour. I could have used for the pieces to have been cooked slightly less well-done but the overall flavourful experience was very good. I found the white rice to be fairly plain, although I was pretty happy about the fries! They were tasty and crispy, and even though their presence seemed a bit odd at first, I was happy that they were included. Wow. I can't even count how many times I've driven down 137 and noticed the sign for this place- it's been years and years.... I recently dined at a different kebab/shawarma place... and I have to say, this beat it ten fold. First of all, this is a lot of food. $25 for a plate sounds like a lot until you realize that the husband and I could have shared this, actually. That said, it was so freaking good that I definitely ate enough for two people. The chicken was cooked to perfection. I honestly will be back for the chicken, and chicken alone. It was juicy and seasoned beautifully. The 'garlic' dip was so tasty! We only received one though, and both of us selected it with our order. Loved dipping the chicken in it. We got it delivered to our place, and they forgot a garlic sauce in our order However, the amount and taste of the food made up for it. The chicken was cooked to perfection! I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time and I finally did last weekend. This place has been hyped by various Instagram foodies over the years and I would say it's worth the hype. I ordered takeout and it's currently 10% off when you order takeout directly from their online website right now. It was super easy and my food was ready within 15 minutes. They will text you when the food is ready. I ordered the Chicken thigh plate and the Kafta kebab plate from their main dishes menu. The portions were huge and I wasn't able to finish. Perhaps I'll opt for their lunch menu next time for a smaller portion. Food was so yummy. Meat was very flavourful and grilled nicely. Rice and fries were seasoned well and the garlic sauce was the perfect topping. The whole meal was very enjoyable. You can even pick to have extra pita on the side with no extra charge. Wonderful kebabs. Ordered the trio kebab (forgot the exact name of the dish). It contains chicken, lamb and kefta. Chicken was perfectly grill, and still tender. Kefta flavour was spot on. Lamb was a bit tough but still perfectly seasoned. Served with brown rice, fries, pita and salad. I personally find the salad has too much parsley to my personal taste but still pretty good. I found this restaurant after a quick Yelp search and it did not disappoint. We were seated right away with menus. This is a cafeteria set up. You go to the cashier to place your order. Food gets dropped off to your table afterwards. There was complimentary bread and tzatziki dip. I ordered a lamb and kafta kebabs platter. The meat was so juicy and flavourful. I was first introduced to Turquaz Kebab House by a friend when this restaurant was still located at 127 Street NW and 140 Ave NW. This new location is not only brighter and more spacious, but I can genuinely say that the quality of the food has gotten better since moving to this new location. I have gone to this the Turquaz Kebab House many times and whenever I bring new friends here. I always recommend a plate. You cannot go wrong with a chicken shawarma or a Kafta plate. One of our favourite northside spots for a casual meal. If you dine in you get a basket of hot, soft bread & dip you don't get for take out. But with take out, it feels like you get more of the fries & rice sides. You can choose your sides - default is white rice, fries & salad for everything. I usually skip the fries and go 1 white rice & 1 brown. My (healthier) friends like going 3x salad. You do you. Lunch can be ordered all day - it's a few dollars cheaper for the same amount of sides and less meat. Chicken thighs & shawarma are our favourites, but honestly, everything is yummy (the falafels are a skip for me, though). Fountain pop machine is the Coke one with all the flavour shots you can add yourself. I did notice that prices have increased by a few dollars across the board recently - lunch plates are now $14 and regular plates are $20ish. read more

We arrived at a busy Saturday lunch time, we were quickly seated and had menus. Having never eaten there before some help from a server would have been nice. The hot bread and taziki was awesome. After ordering the dishes we selected it came out quickly. We three had lunch size meals. I had lamb and beef, one had a chicken kebab meal and the third also had a chicken dish. Disappointing service. Inconsistent quality. Came in today for dinner with a few buddies, ordered and waited for our food. When it arrived we were disppointed, the chicken shawarma wrap was bone dry and the meats were underseasoned and could have used more salt and spices. Additionally, staff do not know the menu. I ordered #19 whole chicken with pickles and garlic sauce but was never brought the 3 bread it comes with. When I asked for the missing bread a waiter came back and tossed 2 bagged cold takeout pitas onto the table and walked away. This level of service is unacceptable. I asked for them to be warmed and gave it to a waitress but never got anything back. I love Turkish food, and this was DELICIOUS. We showed up right at opening time, and were greeted like old friends. Looks new! Everything is shiny and clean. I'm in love with the decor. Did you see my photo of the light fixtures? I'd love a blue one in my house. We ordered the the beef stew because the Saj Kavuma wasn't quite ready yet. It was worth the wait. Wow. 100% worth the hype. ou first find a table with a number, go to the till to order your food, and hand the cashier your table number. Later on, your food is brought to you. Sometimes when it's super busy, they'll open up another section of the restaurant. The service was prompt and the food was served quickly. We opted to get the beef kebab wrap, chicken shawarma lunch platter, grape leaves, and hummus. It was a very good deal at only a little above $30 for very generous portions. You also get served complimentary pita bread with tzatziki to start! The kebab wrap was gigantic. It was filled and boy, she was thick. I found the beef to be a little bit dry but the sauces in the wrap helped quite a bit. The chicken shawarma was delicious! I love the garlic sauce it came with. Probably the best garlic sauce I ever had. It wasn't overly garlicky but was still thick and creamy. The hummus wasn't too greasy and was flavourful. You can also ask to have pita with it free of charge which I greatly appreciated. The grape leaves were fantastic! The flavour was there, the rice inside wasn't too mushy, and it wasn't too oily all over. I just wish they would have a grape leaf option that had meat in it! This used to be my favourite dish to order in person but today they seemed in a rush to leave and did not pay attention to cook. This food was ordered an hour before close and they used some peanut oil or weird oil ingredient that made me nauseous and I spat out the food. It had a gross after taste . Located in the north side on 137 Ave and 133st, this is the best kebab stop in Edmonton. The place is large, clean and have a great staff. There's also a play place for kids if you want to eat and have your kids run around in tubes of smelling of dirty socks. Family fun! First time at their new location, as I use to go to the old one. The new space is a lot bigger and nicer than the old location. First thing you notice is the delicious smell coming from the kitchen. Just grab a number from a table and place your order, they will bring it to your table when ready. If looking for takeout they have a separate ordering area and nice waiting area. I ordered the kebab platter to go. Meat is grilled just right and tender. The rice and salad were good too. Fries were typical frozen type, and I would have preferred more rice and less fries. I still consider their hummus one of the best I've had (goes great with the fries). Looking forward to coming with friends in the future and trying other items.
