The eccentric, quaint, vibes from this adorable little hotel are so true to Portland as a whole! This Inn is a complete feast for the eyes the moment you enter! Considering how long this building has been standing, I'm amazed with how well everything looked overall! Beyond the exciting aesthetics, I can't even put into words how amazing and kind the staff were! Nicolette and Danielle were incredibly accommodating and pleasant. They helped with our bags the moment we walked in, showed us right to our room, made sure we had everything we were looking for and were still so chipper when I went down stairs to ask some additional stuff! The mini breakfast smoothie I had with granola on top the first morning I was there...... SO DELICIOUS, especially with the coffee they had available. The morning after they had the perfect portion of pancakes that were delicious, along with a cucumber and grape salad with a yogurt poppyseed dressing! As someone that doesn't often go outside of my normal food comfort zones, it was SO worth the try and I didn't even need to leave my hotel! Other than the whole room being beautifully hand painted, the bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean! The bed was ginormous and had the cutest stepping stool to get into it along with just being plain ol' comfy. The robes they have for you in the closet are so nice after you're out of the shower and have nothin else to do but lounge! If you want to lounge in your normal clothes there are SEVERAL adorable places in the Inn to do so! Long story short, this Inn is so worth a visit if you appreciate eclectic art that keeps your eyes busy for hours, cute reading nooks by windows looking out into Portland, a warm fire to wake up to and smiling faces all around! read more

Welcome to Portland's 'bug and breakfast', where the pile of dirty bed linens in the kitchen is only slightly less disgusting than the bugs crawling in and out of bed with you at night. Don't get me wrong; the smell of cooked goodies in the background and the 1,500 piece puzzle slapped in front of the roaring gas fireplace are thoughtful touches. But the lengthy explanation when you register of how to avoid a $15 parking ticket (in place of "free parking") and the over $300/night price, are rather off putting. Please explain how this 8+ bedroom older than god residence finds itself listed as a hotel on sites such as Expedia and Hotels.com. I'm discovering this more and more alarming as you travel through New England. Little startup investors bill themselves as hotels when all they seem to be are old homes with a bunch of beds and $$ signs in someone's eyes. The Pomegranate Inn is the latest in the line of promised romance and failed expectation. My recommendation? Check in at the local Holiday Inn instead. read more

Thorough cleaning of all surfaces should be done regularly, room had very noisy A/C, thankfully weather was cool we shut it off and opened the window. Bed was so high was a bit dangerous for us old folks, needed step stool to get in and out! Just an old place that needs attention badly. Would not stay there again! read more

I struggle with how to review this property because the hospitality here is really wonderful! I was greeted by name every morning and staff genuinely seemed to care as to whether we were enjoying our trip. Albeit, I found there were a few areas of opportunity... we stayed in the Wandering Vines room. It was very spacious and had plenty of natural light. Our bed was nicely made with super fluffy pillows. It's not the highest quality mattress but it certainly wasn't an uncomfortable sleep. Where I was a bit disappointed was that when we arrived, our room was sweltering. I think it would be nice to turn on the AC before guests arrive. I'd certainly rather be a little cold over being hot and it was well over 80 degrees in Portland that day. Additionally, our bathroom had not been fully cleaned (underside of toilet had urine from what I assume was the previous guest). My husband cleaned it so he could use it. The room in general could use a good dusting. I understand that older homes show some wear but I found the water damaged/ splintering wood at the bottom of the door and along the baseboards in the bathroom to be a bit of a turn off. Our breakfast started with yogurt, granola and a fruit. On the second day, we had pomegranate. I was really excited to try this but unfortunately, we received pomegranate that tasted like acetone... to those who are not familiar with the fruit, this means it was past its shelf life... spoiled. Very unfortunate as the yogurt had been very rich and inviting up until that point. Again, the host was lovely and the neighborhood can't be beat. Parking was free and not as complicated as it might have been due to the holiday. The B&B is a quick Uber ride (less than $10) to most of Portland's attractions. Hopefully, these opportunities of improvement will be looked at more closely so that this B&B can live up to its highest potential. read more

June 12-14, 2023. Lovely stay in the Iris Room. The inn decor is exquisite and eclectic John and Patrick were great hosts who went above and beyond to make one's stay welcoming. Breakfast and afternoon treats were perfection, and John was willing to share recipes. Safe walking neighborhood with beautiful architecture and flower gardens for an evening stroll. John was a font of recommendations for parks to walk, places to eat, stores to shop, and where to park. I received a pomegranate inn gift certificate as a gift and was excited to get away for a weekend! I was told upon booking I could not use the gift certificate for booking and that a deposit of $200 was needed to be taken from my credit card that would later be refunded to my card upon the completion of my stay. At the time of my stay I was disappointed to learn a live check would be mailed to me instead of receiving a refund to my card as previously agreed upon. But I accepted a $30 future credit as a kind gesture for the inconvenience. Flash forward 4.5 months. It has been since 02/16 that I checked out of the hotel and I am still out $190. I am so confused as to why there were so many check envelope "returns" from my correct address that I confirmed multiple times and received mail to daily. I have now been following up twice, or more, a month since March and no word on my refund. I know COVID has a lot of businesses backed up, which was their excuse back in MAY, But this is issue pre dates COVID closures and should have been a priority refund due to the timing. If I had received a refund to my card like promised initially then the checks would have never been returned in the first place. This is frustrating to have to continuously reach out and not have any updates or follow through. Also, very unhappy that I am the one constantly following up and no one is reaching out other than responding to me emails stating they'll check on things again. Very unreliable and disappointing, won't be staying at a lark in the future. In response to what the manager has commented below. This has nothing to do with my address change. I have been in contact with your managers since March about this issues and happened to move late June. I received several notifications saying that it was sent in the mail and then returned to you. For 4 months my address was perfectly deliverable. I don't believe it was ever sent. Period. And by your managers have been in contact with me do you mean respond to my email once and then follow up about a new check being sent? Because that's what's been happening. I am happy to screen shot my emails and share on yelp as well. Your apology is not an apology. You are trying to refocus the blame. Pathetic leadership and management skills. Day 1: I have not been here less than an hour and love this place. The assistant manager Sophia was just a wonderful cheery person, great customer service. I can't wait for breakfast; they are gluten aware. Day 2: Breakfast was great, smoked Gouda omelette with gluten free bread. The surrounding area is beautiful. Quirky, eccentric and cozy! The fireplace in our beautiful room was toasty and welcome as we checked in during a thunderstorm and torrential downpour. The inn is nestled in a quiet residential area, which had a fantastic vibe. I've never stayed in a B&B style hotel before so it was really cool to be able to stay somewhere that felt local - it is! The service was good, but a bit hit or miss - checking in was a wee bit confusing. The day we arrived in Portland, we tried calling them to see if we could do a slightly earlier check-in. It was a random Tuesday in July so we figured we'd ask and if not, no big deal! However, their phone number returned an "all circuits are busy" response so we just walked in to ask. Really nice staff members told us we'd receieve a call in the afternoon when our room was available. We ended up getting caught in the heavy rain close to check in time and had not received a call. We tried to call them again to no avail - it rang once and told us that all circuits were busy and to try again later. We entered the lobby. It was empty except for a woman sitting at her laptop. I initially greeted her thinking [hoping] she might be an employee, but she was just a really nice fellow guest. We eventually found someone - I think my partner accidentally walked into the kitchen, haha, and they didn't really seem to want anything to do with us. I guess our room had been ready for a while, but the missed call was not explained. They handed off our key, but it was awkward because we didn't know the building or layout at all. We asked them where our room was and we were told it was upstairs on the second floor. We were handed a printed out map of Portland and a brochure advertising local businesses and went to go find the stairs. They do keep their only front entrance door locked and guests will need a code to get back in. This was awkward because we weren't told this [I'm sure Diane would have told us if we'd met her first] aaaand locked ourselves out when going to get dinner - oops. There's no working buzzer or doorbell and the phone was a bit spotty again so we ended up knocking until someone came and apologetically and graciously explained the code to us. Again, just something that would have been helpful information upon check in. Diane was upstairs and was absolutely fantastic - she intercepted us by chance in the hallway, told us a bit about the inn and the artwork that went into the awesome rooms and suggested restaurants in the neighborhood! She was so lovely and I would have figured her for an owner/operator of sorts - very accomodating and happy to have us! If you are into handpainted walls, kitsch, mismatched furniture and prints, fun dustruffles, and a clean, modern bathroom, this is the place for you! It added character, fun and more local color to our trip. The service was mostly HIT so I would definitely consider staying here or another Lark Hotels location, but my overall suggestion as a guest to the staff would be to make sure the inn is a bit more easy to access, get in, check in, and find your room. Shabby chic is a cool aesthetic for a hotel but not for a phone system in 2018. It ain't the Grand Budapest, even though this place looks like the perfect Wes Anderson fever dream. read more

We stayed in this bed & breakfast place when we travelled to Portland, Maine last year. (yes, i know, long overdue review). This B&B is in a rather residential area. The whole neighborhood contains east-coast styled and red-brick structured houses, which looks quite historic and charming. We instantly fell in love with the neighborhood. When we walked into the B&B, we knew we made the right decision choosing this place. It was just so neat and lovely. All the detailing in the house indicated this is a house with history and stories. It was nicely maintained. The decoration looked very warm and cozy. All the small things on the desk, on the shelf, or on the ground caught our attention. It was not difficult to notice the display of pomegranate ornaments everywhere. We checked in late. The person who stayed there for the afternoon shift was nice enough to wait for our arrival before she took off for the day. She brought us to our room, which was again quite charming. I felt like I went to a flamboyant fantasy room back in time. In the morning, there was a cook who came in to prepare us breakfast. We were sitting in this beautiful dining room with other guests. The breakfast was quite tasty. The service was quite accommodating, too. This place is like a gem hidden in a small and quite l town. I wish I can go back there again if chance permitted. read more

I fail to understand the positive reviews for this place unless they are solicited, paid reviews. My wife and I travel fairly often and although I rarely provide reviews, I feel compelled to do so in the case of this so-called 'inn'. We encountered so many issues it is difficult to know where to begin. First, my wife and I stayed in the carriage house. The first thing we noticed was the air conditioner. Not only was the air conditioner barely functional and noisy, the red filter light was on. I removed the filter and it was absolutely filthy; I spent a half hour cleaning the filter in the sink. Next, and not least the bathroom sink was cracked, tiles in bathroom were cracked, the bathroom pocket door needed repair and was off the rollers and the infrared bathroom timer did not work. In addition the patio door also needed to be replaired or most likely replaced as it did not slide smoothly. Secondly, my sister and her friend stayed in the main house second floor, number 8. The chandelier did not work and the hair dryer did not work. Thirdly, breakfast was particularly disappointing. For the price we paid, we expected a fairly substantial breakfast. Instead we were served small dishes of (supermarket) yogurt with some fruit and pan fried previously frozen pierogis in some gloppy sauce from a can or jar. This was absolutely appalling. If I had been the owner of this so called inn, I would never have served anything of such poor quality. How much could it possibly cost to have served omelettes to order, fruit, pastry, yougurt, juice choices? If perogies are to to be served they should at least be either made fresh in the kitchen or purchased fresh. Fourthly, and lastly, not only was no one at the inn when we arrived, there was no one at the inn to voice our concerns. Our checkout consisted of leaving the keys in the front foyer. Sadly, I cannot recommend this Inn. We recently stayed there for our anniversary. We have given the management of the Inn more than enough opportunity to respond to our complaints and we've heard nothing. I feel a responsibility to let people know that the Inn is simply not up to it's price point (over $300/night). Like the reviewer earlier, we too, stayed in the carriage house (the previous reviewers complained about this a year ago and, clearly nothing was done to remedy). The room was below our expectations - in particular the bathroom. The bathroom is old, tile is cracked and grout in shower was moldy. The shower has a very cheap plastic shower curtain, again, completely inappropriate for the price point. Overall, the Inn needs a refresher. I am sure it's not the product they want to present to the public. The fact that we haven't heard from Lark Hotels management (Pomegranate is among this boutique chain) is indicative that they must not care...and it shows in the maintenance of the Inn! Would not stay here again. The Inn is quite dirty and not kept up very well and is dirty. Also, you have no ability to control the temperature in your room and they keep the heat extremely high so enjoy sweating all night. Luckily we did not spend much time in the Inn itself since we were out and about in Portland, but even as just a place to sleep it was underwhelming and not worth what you pay to stay there. Loved visiting Portland and have only good things to say about everything else, but would not recommend the Pomegranate to anyone and staying anywhere else will enhance your stay immensely. read more

Best B&B I've ever stayed at. It's hard to go wrong with a B&B, but the Pomegranate Inn surpasses all expectations of a B&B. I will comment on ROOM, FOOD, and OVERALL. ROOM: Many B&Bs are old homes that have been restored, often to near meticulous representations of their Victorian roots. The Pomegranate Inn, however, is dedicated to the owners love of interesting and diverse art. While much of the house is decorated in period antiques, there are a lot of unique eccentrics from the art on the walls, interesting lamps that abound, to the unique artfully painted rooms. Our room was very large, the bed extremely comfortable, and the entire feel very homey. We posted some pictures on a photo sharing site, and were met with many comments from relatives who were jealous at not living close enough to visit. FOOD: Hands down, the best. Not the best for a B&B, but the best PERIOD. We came to Portland for a fine dining Farm-to-Table event the night before, and have actually raved MORE about the breakfast we had at the Pomegranate than we did for the event. Dana and Greg served an asparagus and goat cheese frittata, along with a caramelized banana/pineapple cairn. The presentation of all the food looked just like the picture from Dana's book - absolutely top notch, 5 star. If I'm ever just passing through Portland, I will likely call just to see if I can stop by for breakfast. Amazing food - simply amazing. OVERALL: Overall, I think I'd go back to Portland JUST to stay here again. Great rooms in a cool eclectic house, a FANTASTIC breakfast, all within a very short drive of downtown. read more

Recently, my boyfriend and I took a short holiday to Portland and stayed at the Pomegranate. Now having grown up a "city girl", I admit that in the past I have been terrified of bed and breakfasts. Whenever a friend would tell me of a relaxing weekend getaway to one, I could only imagine her spending the entire holiday trying to escape an axe yielding whacko. Thankfully, I realized years ago that my fears of intimate bed and breakfasts were unfounded. The Pomegranate is beautiful. They offer tea and snacks in the afternoon as well as a homemade breakfast in the morning. They are very accomodating to one's diet as well. Vegetarian? Allergies? No problem. They'll fix something you can eat. This holiday was the first in a long time that actually allowed for relaxation and I thank the Pomegranate Inn for playing a large role in that. read more

The Pomegranate Inn is pretty amazing. As soon as you walk in, its magical. The house itself is whimsical and very quirky with bursts of colors and patterns. But its also very quaint. I forget the name of the person who checked us in but she was a doll and super nice and helpful. Walking up the stairs, I couldn't help but notice the awesome leopard print rug that aligned the stairs. As we made our way up the Room 2, it was all so neat to look around. I felt like a kid in the candy store, eyes wide just taking in all the colors and art pieces. Our room was huge, it had a king size bed which actually was 2 twins beds put together but it was hardly noticeable when laying on it. It had a couch and 2 small one seaters by the fireplace. The walls look like they were hand painted. The bathroom was spacious and clean. There is a flat screen TV in the room but its very small, we didn't watch any TV during our stay but there is cable and a variety of channels. The fireplace is gas operated and came in pretty handy during the cold nights and heated up the room really well. Our radiator kept making loud clanging noises every few hours, so we left it off during our stay. The fireplace kept our room warm as it heats up pretty fast. The room also comes with wine glasses and a wine opener which was perfect since we stopped in NH on the way up and bought a few bottles to enjoy. The breakfast here is the best part. Breakfast is served from 8-930am but you are more than welcome to come earlier as they have coffee and tea set up. You will meet the couple who manages the Inn, Dana and Greg Moos. They are super nice. Dana makes the breakfasts and it is amazing! Much like the Inn, her dishes come out looking like a masterpiece. Presentation is awesome. Our first morning we had eggnog French toast with pecans on top. It came right after our kiwi and watermelon fruit salad with a really good creamy cucumber sauce. The next morning we had port wine poached pears followed by Egg Roulade filled with Leeks, Parmesan and topped with Maine Lobster and Sherry Butter. It was sooo delicious. The one nice thing about breakfast here is sitting at the large table and meeting the other guests of the Inn. We all happened to be from the Boston area and it was really nice to talk about "home" and other things. Between 4-730pm, they serve Intermezzo in the sitting room on the main floor. They put out sweet treats (cookies and awesome mini cream cheese cakes) along with tea and coffee. This is great when you had a full day of exploring Portland and come back to take a break before heading out again. Overall, I recommend if you ever find yourself in Portland, to stay here. Its within walking distance of many restaurants but also a short drive to the main downtown area. They have street parking here and you can always find a spot. I will be honest, I don't like forced socialization and B&Bs but this place didn't make you feel like you needed to come down and talk in order to eat breakfast. Our room was very comfortable with a great working fireplace. *note* If you are very tall I wouldn't recommend staying on the top floor because the ceilings are angled. Great place! I took a weekend trip with my boyfriend to explore the city and we couldn't have been happier. It wouldn't be a B&B without the breakfast. The three-course breakfast was wonderful, and we got to chat with interesting people at the table from all over the world. I would kill for the ginger scone recipe. Our room (#4- the "bird room") was large and airy. The fireplace was a nice thing to have, even in April. The decoration of the house is delightfully eclectic (like the people who stay there, I guess.) Despite the couples coming and going, the house itself is very quiet. Great music plays in the dining room, where there's a tea service left out for you all night. Like I said, we were there to explore. One host, Henry, not only gave us recommendations but he also gave us a little map. Very helpful. I would definitely stay here again and I would absolutely recommend it. read more

My husband and I stayed in 5 B&B along the coast of Maine this week. This was the place I was most excited to stay (it was also the most expensive!) It was cute and we had a good stay, but in my opinion, not worth it. Charming rooms, quaint common areas, good breakfast..no complaints...but nothing that made it worth more than all the other places we stayed. Just ehh. While in Portland you must check out the Pomegranate Inn. Its like staying in a cool artsy downtown house. I stayed in room 3 (link here: http://www.pomegranateinn.com/room3.html). It reminded me of Alice in Wonderland with its quirky bed and decor- I loved it! Especially the hand painted walls. I am a sucker for details like this. The innkeeper that greeted us was super friendly and accommodating. The room was on the top floor with huge windows and the bed was very comfy. My only complaint was the door to the bathroom was not really a door. It had slits in it so it made privacy in the bathroom somewhat non existent if you know what I mean. (just a heads up if you are traveling as a couple). It was our anniversary and they gave us chocolate dipped strawberries with a nice little note- super nice. I found the cork opener and wine glasses in each room a very nice touch. Onto breakfast. The first breakfast was very SWEET- some type of sweet bread pudding and caramelized bananas and bacon. It was good- but a bit too rich for me in the morning. The best part was the next morning. We told the innkeepers that we had a very early flight and had to miss breakfast and they left us a goody bag full of delicious breakfast just for us! (home made granola and fruit and almond milk and pears- yum!!!) I would definitely stay here again but maybe in another room with a real door to the bathroom ;-) read more

We stayed here on our first ever trip to Maine and are glad we did. The Inn: Beautifully decorated with an artist's eye. Comfortable and inviting. Friendly staff. We stayed in Room 3 which had hand painted walls and was the perfect size for the two of us. I'm a sucker for skylights so the one in the bathroom really won me over. There was also another sitting area right outside our room. The Food: Get ready for artistry on a plate. We had grapefruit brulee and a souffle with a pomegranate coulis, fresh fruit and candied bacon. I was a huge fan of the candied bacon, which was crispy, savory, and sweet and the massive amount of fresh fruit on the souffle. My husband was a huge fan of the souffle and candied bacon. We also got to taste some chocolate cookies that were almost brownie like and delicious, but would be even better hot. Special touches included a much appreciated hair dryer that was actually made this century and was normal sized and refrigerator in the common area. My Darling Pomegranate. This place could be one of those times where I say, "Only in Portland, Maine." Because I don't have the faith I can find such charm and beatitude anywhere else, especially West Coast. It's almost as if the small Bed and Breakfasts paradises of the 1960's were resurrected and given a polish and restoration job. The beds are classic and lavish, by means of pillows and spreads. The wallpaper and windows are very Raold Dahl meets Ken Adams. All the rooms are nice if you take a peak. But I'll make it clear that we paid for the best (and it was a great deal). We stayed at the Master's Suite, Room #8 (not to be confused by Room 237, oops, that is another hotel) that altogether was a marvel, a delight. It had it's own drawing room with couch, desk and television. Great if you're a nighttime vegetable like me. I probably had the best sleep I had all year in that bed. I also took a dunk in the bathtub. Downstairs had complimentary breakfast during 8 and 9:30, I believe. I loved this very personal, distinctive plate of apricot scone, watermelon and entree french toast with unbeatable lemon curd, and lots of east coast teas. I enjoyed the company I had with the innkeeper Henry, lots of fun talks about the work of Nicolas Roeg and David Lynch! I love the Maine people! The lighthouses! The fresh lobster! Stayed here for 1 night in the separate carriage house. Our room: Our fireplace wasn't working but not a big deal. The bed was king size and the most softest sheets everrrrr (ahhhh). The bathroom was spacious and had a stone shower. The room was eclectic and "artsy" but cozy...much like the rest of the house. The main house was full of lots of artsy, quirky objects and paintings. They serve a complimentary breakfast from 8:30-9:30 (3 courses) and it's good! However if you get there towards the end they might run out of things like bacon though...(eeek!) If you want to skip going in to the dining room and eating you can sleep later and request a basket of pastries. Wonderful, charming experience...will be back if we head up to portland again. Staying here was the highlight of our trip to Maine for my 30th birthday. I don't even know where to begin with this review. This unique bed and breakfast was like staying in a museum in the best way possible. Every room was designed in a unique way with different vibe. Many rooms had fireplaces which was an added bonus (including ours, room 1). The beds were comfortable, big fluffy duvets, corkscrew and wine glasses for some romance, private bathroom. The rooms were cleaned and made each morning. Most of the day there was tea and coffee and some pastry available in the dining room to snack on. I can only describe the breakfast in one word....HEAVEN. each morning we had a 3 course gourmet breakfast- cooked to order. Morning 1, we had a baked pear with ricotta cheese and slivered almonds. Then a banana scone (super fluffy and delicious) followed by a choice of french toast with blueberry and strawberry jam and whipped cream or an omelette with cheese and tomatoes with toast and greens dressed very nicely. We sat at the big table and chatted with the other guests, which is one of the perks of b&bs if you like that sort of thing. Otherwise they had other tables for 2...Also coffee/tea and fresh juice. Morning 2, fruit platter with greek yogurt, followed by a little corn cake (not sure what it was but it was delicious) with some jam on it and either a choice of pesto/feta omelette with greens and toast or waffles with sliced baked apple and whipped cream with sausage. It was all made from scratch to order. This breakfast would easily be $25 plus in a restaurant... The hosts Katie and Steve were extremely helpful, nice and caring. They couldn't do enough for us. They were knowledgable about the area and gave great advice on where to go. They manage inn together and do all the cooking. Kudos to them for doing a great job. I have already recommended this place to my family and know my artsy mom will enjoy staying here when she visits in the future. The only negative that I may have, is the parking. Though we were lucky enough to get parking in the driveway throughout our stay, if it's very busy street parking may be a hassle with the Maine parking laws. This may be a similar issue with other places however. Overall, we couldn't be happier with the experience and feel lucky to have come across this inn for a fantastic, romantic stay. The Pomegranate Inn is grand and eclectic, yet easy to settle into. Especially when you get to your room and can appreciate the decor and attention to comfort the management has put into it (or at least continued to maintain from previous incarnations). The bed was comfortable and the bedding was luxurious; the most important part of the stay. Room 4 is also beautifully appointed with high back chairs and a fireplace (for another season, not this one!). It was the kind of room you could stay in for days and days without feeling cramped or eager to get out. We awoke to a giant spider staring at us from the ceiling, but fortunately we were checking out and didn't have to call the fire department to come kill it (since the ceilings are extra high with no chance of us reaching it). read more

Amazingly kind staff, wonderful location within a beautiful neighborhood, delightfully cozy home complete with fireplace, fresh cookies, and quirky art throughout. They keep the un-reserved bedrooms open so you can check out what each one looks like. The breakfast was also amazing! I wish I could have stayed longer than one night! read more

My wife and I stayed here the first weekend of September 2013. It is a nice, but not a spectacular B&B. I say this, because it is priced similarily to many B&B's in the http://www.selectregistry.com/, and it is not up the quality found in the Select Registry. If the Pomegranate was priced less, I would be less critical. Good parts; friendly, attentive staff, wonderful art collection, EXCELLENT breakfasts, and charming rooms. The bad; it would be nice if they supplied water for guests, the tv in the room was quite small, and didnt have tv in the bedroom(which is where most people want to watch tv from when on a vacation). Also dissapointed there were no DVD/VCR's available in rooms to watch a flick, no "On-Demand" option either. We spent much our time exploring Portland, but sometimes we want to veg-out on vacation. Bathroom was clean, BUT, toilet had a large crack in it(repaired, but a crack none the less), shower fixture was just cheapo gas pipe from hardware store. There are cracks in the paint of ceiling in sitting room of room 8, cracks in paint of exterior of the inn, and the way the window AC unit was sealed with peeling back tape was poor. My wife and I walked most of our time in Portland as it is quite small, only about 2 miles across. However, that being said, the Pomegranate is relatively far from "the action". I wouldnt tell anyone to avoid the Pomegranate, but we will not return, at least not at the prices they charge. read more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights, Nov 9 and 10, 2014. We have stayed at about 6 or 7 Bed and Breakfasts in Portland. All of them have been ok and a couple have been terrific, this is one of them. The service was perfect. The decor was fun, interesting, busy, funky, comfortable. There was plenty of room downstairs to hang out in the parlor and read, as we did, or to hang out at the dining table and play cards, as we did. We met some fabulous guests at breakfast and had terrific food, only complaint is I could not resist any of it, and there was plenty. It is in a lovely residential neighborhood, an easy walk to restaurants and to Old Port. Steve and Kait are very knowledgeable about the area and were able to direct us to a couple restaurants we had not yet tried. Some of our favorites are Silly's, 38 & 40 Washington Ave, LFK 188A State St, and RiRa' Irish Pub 72 Commercial St. Two new ones we learned about on this trip and will return to are Central Provisions on Fore St and Bramhall Pub, 769 Congress St. All are within a 20 minute walk except Silly's which is almost 2 miles away. We are both vegetarians and while these are not vegetarian restaurants, they served us well. read more

Beautiful, cozy B&B - highly recommend! We really enjoyed our time both in the city of Portland and at the Pomegranate Inn. The Inn is a short drive/uber to downtown where there are TONS of restaurants (Central Provisions & Eventide were our two favorites) and lots of great shopping. My wife and I took a weekend getaway with friends and loved our visit. We felt at home at the Pomegranate Inn, enjoyed breakfast and coffee/tea each morning before taking a walk on the Western Promenade and venturing into the city. Very nice property and super location. Within walking distance of the water and a variety of restaurants. Landon was very helpful and friendly. We lucked out and got upgraded to a King Suite, so truly enjoyed our room. Our only regret is that we didn't get to spend more time in Portland - it is a great little community. My wife and I have spent 2 weeks traveling the Maine coast, soaking in the fall foliage and skipping from inn to inn. Out of the 4 bed and breakfasts we have stayed In, the Pomegranate Inn was our absolute least favorite. Every other has offered GF options; the Pomegranate has ONLY offered GF options for breakfast, hosting tasteless fare that feels as if sawdust was used instead of flour. Whiles claiming 'gourmet', our actual experience has been less than impressive: cold, hard muffins and lukewarm slices of egg wedges mistaken for quiche. If you enjoy the 'breakfast' portion of bed and breakfasts, go somewhere else! We also overheard other guests complaining about the breakfast as well. As for the bed portion, our room (Number 1) was eccentrically decorated (as claimed), but lacking in any real attention to detail. My wife and I enjoy relaxing and watching a little TV at the end of our day: the Pomegranate only offers local channels. The bathroom does not appear to have been remodeled at all. The headboard and window behind the bed creak. There is a mess of wires and extension cords beside the bed. Over all, it appears the Pomegranate banks more heavily on their eccentric decor and hipster vibe than on the usual substance other inns strive to provide. read more

So truth-in-advertising, I haven't actually stayed there, but i did have a reservation, so take this review with that in mind. This review concerns their policies, not their facility. I booked a room two months in advance for a conference I was attending in Portland. Once I got the confirmation, They notified me that they only have three parking spaces, won't reserve any and only have nearby street parking, which during business hours, necessitates moving your car every two hours. Parking like that is kind of an issue for many people that will be taking a car in and out during the day and it certainly was for me, so shortly after I found out (and yes I know it's on the web site--somewhere), I had my travel agent cancel it. But they kept $25 for their considerable work in booking the reservation, instead of gracefully refunding it the way every civilized place that I've ever been to does. Remember--months in advance and it's not New Orleans at Mardi Gras. So I'm sure that it's lovely, etc., but their attitude on the phone with my travel agent was apparently quite negative and their cancellation policy that far in advance is arrogant. It's not their fault that the street parking is tough, but that's a good reason for cancellation and they should handle it like grownups. Forewarned is forearmed. There are many nice places in Portland. Pick one that has New England charm, not just the property, but the management. read more

The room is fine, but for the price we were super disappointed by the low level of service. Good luck getting into the place to check in! We had to wait 10 minutes at 4pm, desperately ringing the doorbell and calling two different numbers for the hotel just to get past the locked door (which I guess they lock because its in a terrible neighborhood? I've seen that at b and b's before, but never in the middle of the day during checkin!) For $225 a night there area million and one better options. read more
