Great location. First impression was not great however, as the service was lacking. Front desk was not the friendliest and not helpful with some questions we had. Our arrival was at 9 pm, it felt more like we were arriving at 3 am with the limited service. Not what I was expecting for a 4 star property. At first we thought we made a mistake choosing this hotel. Following day was much better, however. Day time front desk was able to assist and service was like night and day....literally. The rooms are on the smaller size. We reserved the Large King, which I'm glad we did to have a little extra space. Bed is comfortable. Room has a desk and Nespresso machine. We unfortunately did not get to try the bar as it was closed during most of our stay, which was disappointing. We did get to enjoy Union restaurant and enjoyed some really good cocktails there. Able to bring them back to the lobby as well. I'm going with 4 stars due to location and our experience at Union restaurant and bar, but it's more of a 3.5 for me. If in the area again I might try another hotel. Try to arrive before evening for a better check in experience.

We recently stayed at the Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront and came away with a solid overall…read moreexperience, though it wasn't quite perfect. The clear standout was the bed -- easily one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've slept in recently. Great mattress, supportive yet plush, with high-quality linens that made for genuinely restful nights. That alone earns the hotel strong marks. The room itself was clean and functional, but the finishes felt more mid-tier than upscale. Even as a Hilton Diamond member who received a room upgrade, the views were still pretty ordinary and not particularly scenic. The hotel just doesn't seem to deliver strong views from the guest rooms. The main area where it fell short was value. The base rate already felt on the higher side, and then parking and breakfast were both extra charges that added up quickly. Those additional costs made the total feel a bit steep for what the room delivered. That said, the location is convenient for exploring Portland's waterfront and Old Port area, and the comfortable bed went a long way toward making the stay enjoyable. If you're someone who prioritizes sleep and can find a good rate (or don't mind paying for parking and breakfast separately), this is a perfectly good option. We'd consider staying here again, especially if the rate was a bit more competitive. 4 stars -- great bed and convenient location, with some value and finish caveats.

We have always had great experiences staying at Hampton Inn hotels. I was able to check in via the Hilton App and select a room. This location was great...on Fore street only about one block from the waterfront and surrounded by lots of shops and restaurants. The rooms were on the smaller side...but that is generally expected in larger/touristy cities. The rooms had comfortable beds, good water pressure, a microwave, a refrigerator and a desk/chair. There was also a large TV in the room with lots of channels. We did have an iron...but was missing an ironing board. Also, our bathroom door did NOT lock...the handle hardware seemed to be broken. They do offer free breakfast with a few hot options (such as eggs and sausages) as well as the typical continental items...breads, fruit, cereal and their signature waffle iron/maker. There is a pool and fitness center, but we did not visit either during our stay. Parking is valet-only and is $40 per night. You are given a ticket with your vehicle number and can text them when you want your car to be available. Your vehicle will be ready in a few minutes after sending the text. All the staff, including valet, we encountered were friendly, respectful and efficient.

I was in a room with two beds instead of one because that turned out to be cheaper. It was a modern and clean room. The ice machine on my floor never worked on my two night stay, which was annoying. They do have a nice free breakfast spread, with plenty of tables. Housekeeping did knock on my door while I was packing to check out. Another annoying little thing, as they should know when I have actually checked out. I would probably stay at this Hampton Inn again the next time I'm in Portland.
