Since Pondside Pet Care didn't answer their voicemail and emails, I went over and Tammy scheduled me in for a grooming about a week and a half in advance. On the scheduled day I went over with my dog for the grooming and was told that the groomer was not back from her vacation. WTF....they (Tammy) didn't have the courtesy and consideration to call me to let me know. This is a pretty sh*tty way to run a business. I'm sure they take great care of the pups, but there are some concerning financial/communication issues. I had a double charge of $350 due to their website glitch (the website said my order cancelled so I rebooked it, but it double charged me). I contacted Pondside immediately and was told the $350 would be refunded. When it wasn't, I contacted them by email 6 times over the course of 6 weeks without a response (and after the amount was withdrawn from my account). Given the lack of response, I had to turn to my credit card to dispute the charge as I had no idea where else to go. I then got a text from the owner of Pondside saying, "We no longer wish to have you as a client after what you are trying to pull with Amex" which I felt like was uncalled for/rude as I had tried repeatedly to contact them directly for a refund through their company email without a response. I would have preferred to have a conversation right after the double charge but I received no response - I was given silence and then some unnecessary rudeness. read more

We've been bringing our dog Watson to Tammy at Pondside Pet Care for almost a year now. We love working with Tammy and the staff at Pondside. We bring Watson in for daycare twice a week, as well as grooming, and also rely on Tammy for occasional longer-term boarding needs. Tammy is super responsive, understanding, and easy to work with, and Pondside provides a great safe environment for our dog to play and socialize. I booked an appointment and told them I was busy in the mornings and needed to book the latest possible appointment and she gave me one on a Tuesday at 12. Monday morning while I am on a conference call at 10 am they call 5 times in a row to confirm the appointment. I push the "I can't talk right now " text after two calls- 3 more calls! By the time I am done working I am pissed and just want to know who this idiot is and so I dial the number " Pondside Petcare"- I say why did you call me 5 times in a row even when I sent it to voicemail twice two hours ago? " oh, because you have an appointment today and we need to confirm it. " I said I don't think you need to call 5 times and Then she says " I remember your dog from last year I don't want him ( my dog is a girl) here there was an issue . So don't even bring him in. I was very disappointed in the grooming experience I had for my two dogs. One dog needed a shave and it took about 1.5 hours longer than I was told. $65, a reasonable price The second dog was just a bath and I was charged $60. Not reasonable! The place smelled like urine and when I came back to ask to have the owner call me so I could discuss my concerns, I was told she would. In short, my experience with Pondside Pet Care was unprofessional, unsanitary, and unsafe for my puppy. I adopted my puppy earlier than expected, and therefore was crunched for time to find a daycare. I didn't take the time to ask Pondside the right questions because I was a new dog owner and they seemed like a trustworthy local place. I took my puppy there for about a month, and increasingly was seeing red flags that led to a disheartening incident. The red flags that I noticed before the incident: 1. My puppy was not given an interview or behavioral assessment, which means other clients were also not evaluated before accepted. 2. Each day that I dropped her off, they had an additional new client. It seemed like they were expanding their clientele beyond the capabilities of the staff and the facilities, but they were not capping their attendees. 3. When the owner, Tammy, was not there herself--there was no manager or leader put in charge. The staff often did not know what to do or how to answer my questions. 4. When dropping off/picking up, the staff seemed overwhelmed by dogs and did not have control. They often asked me to hold back certain dogs so that they could open and close the door. As a client who is not staffed by them, I should never be responsible for other client's dogs as that is a safety and liability risk. Dropping off my own dog was a struggle as well as the staff would often be too busy with other dogs and even admit to being overwhelmed. And yet the owner would continue to take on new clients. 5. I would observe dogs having accidents, and due to the overwhelming staff-to-dog ratio the accidents were not cleaned up in a timely manner. In other words, other dogs had time to eat the accidents around them and often the staff would not notice. I would observe this all during the length of time it took to drop off my dog. 6. My dog would come home with a ton of energy, and the staff would claim that she chose to sleep all day. They would say she was overstimulated or intimidated at times but did not express any plan to address this or separate the dogs into smaller groups. It is very unlike my dog to want to sleep over playing, and I felt my money was wasted. 7. My dog got two eye infections during her time there. The first healed after medication, then she got a second soon after. Since not attending Pondside, my dog has been completely healthy. I'm sad that I didn't take these red flags more seriously at the time, but again I am new to being a dog owner in the city. The incident that led to me leaving Pondside Pet Care was very disappointing and scary as the person responsible for my dog's actions. One evening I had my dog walker pick up my puppy on my behalf, she said that when she arrived a staff member came up to her screaming "Hey I need to talk to you!" When my dog walker explained that she is not the owner/guardian, the staff member continued anyways and said something along the lines of "your dog is suspended from daycare for a while, she bit a dog and an employee, you need to call Tammy for more details." At the time of pickup, my dog was happily playing with other dogs and staff, and thus the story was very unexpected and confusing. When I heard it (mind you this is now third-hand), I was very shocked that no one had called me or tried to contact me in any way. I had to proactively track down Tammy's number and ask her to call me. When we talked, I finally got the story first-hand but it was still very confusing. Tammy told me the following facts: Tammy was in the back room when she heard yelping (the dogs were unsupervised?), when she entered the room she saw my dog had grabbed onto the shoulder of another dog and would not let go, when Tammy went to pull her off my dog turned and bit Tammy's wrist. This sounded unbelievably unlike my dog, who had been actively working with a trainer and gotten great behavior evaluations. I asked if the dog was hurt, and no the other dog was not hurt at all so I suspect it was a normal puppy fight. I asked if Tammy was hurt, she was not. No skin was broken and no lasting marks were left on either Tammy or the dog. Tammy expressed that she was upset and shocked, but as a daycare owner I would expect her to have better experience with puppy behavior. So the claim that my dog had bitten others was untrue, and a very scary accusation. I asked why no one called me at the time of the incident, Tammy told me that she's been busy tending to cats and other dogs and was planning to call me the next day (unacceptable in my opinion). I asked what happened immediately after the incident, and Tammy said that my dog was put in a crate and then later let out. So to my understanding, they had deemed my dog dangerous enough to suspend from daycare but still allowed her to participate in daycare for the rest of the day. So happy with Pondside daycare. We live about an 45min/hour's walk away and still make the trek because Tammy's business is so much better than the other groups in the area. She is so good with our hyper active puppy and he is always excited to come in. She is flexible and will take him for boarding and grooming as needed at the same drop off. As first-time dog owners, we didn't know what to expect when we hired a dog walker for our 4 year old rescue poodle. Pondside Pet Care has done an okay job. They are happy to accommodate most requests for feeding or help with bathroom training. I've had experienced better. Unfortunately we no longer have our rescue poodle. If we did we might use pondside again but I think we might try another walker in the area As the cost is a little above average. We probably would want someone that could take our dog for runs also, as I believe the main walker has a hip issue. read more

I contacted this business in October to set up pet care for my two cats over the Christmas holiday. I met with the owner who seemed very nice and very knowlegable and my cats seemed to like her. We were to meet at a later date for me to give her my keys and to finalize plans. Weeks went by and I heard nothing. My messages by phone and email were not returned and emails bounced back. She finally called me back in early December to state she was having surgery at which point I asked if she thought she could still pet sit.I told her my emails had bounced back and she told me she changed her email address (new one not listed on her website) She stated she could still petsit. Another week went by and I emailed her to arrange key exchange and we set a tentative date. She stated she felt she could still petsit. The day after we agreed to meet she sent me an email stating that she could not physically do this and that she hoped I could make other arrangments. Now I am not an insensitive person and I truly understand that one must recover from surgery and if she physically could not do this then I know her health comes first. My main issue is that she is irresponsible in that she assured me she could do this, changed her email address without notification, she confirmed a time to meet and the next day bailed on me leaving me to scramble to find arrangements to board my 2 cats for 6 days. I was unable to find another sitter at such short notice( 4 days before I am leaving) and called several kennels to no avail as they were fully booked for the holiday. I called the Boston Cat Hospital and they were able to accommodate me (I think they were full but my cat recently had a lot of care there so I think they created space). I am happy I found an alternative but I am now spending over $200 more than I planned to spend. Again, I am truly sorry the owner is having a tough time recuperating and I wish her a speedy recovery but she should have told me that she could not watch my cats long before this. She seems like a nice person but I think it was irresponsible to notify me one day after we agreed to meet to set things up. If she had told me earlier I could have found another sitter. read more

I cannot say enough about Tami and Pondside! WOW! I am in the process of moving to Ireland, and at the last minute my pet care fell thru. I had no place to go, but that was nothing compared to the feeling of my cat not having loving care. Tami to the rescue!
