One of the hippest, funkiest art galleries I've found. I'm kind of dorky and a little square, so I worried they might look down their noses at me in this too-cool-for-school, hipster-trendy establishment, but the folks working here could not have been nicer. I was encouraged to browse, told about the pieces in shop, and had an interesting conversation with one of the owners about his passion for his craft. Ponshop is owned by husband-and-wife artist duo Gabriel and Scarlett Pons (making the gallery's name that much cuter). Scarlett creates the unique ceramics on display: spouted bowls, blossom-shaped dishes, watering pitchers with what looks like Bob Marley's likeness stamped on the sides, decorative vases, and even hand puppets made from clay and fabric. Gabriel works in mixed-media, putting prints, photographs, and paint on wood, or designing one-of-a-kind skateboards. Along with showcasing their own art, the two feature the works of many other local artists from tee-shirts and jewelry, to plush toys, reusable gift "paper", sculpture, and even soaps. The art in Ponshop is provocative and avant-garde, but the whole place feels down-to-earth and welcoming. I really enjoyed poking around and purchased what I've since dubbed a "scarf-lace" since I'm not really sure *what* it is: a many-looped-and-knotted scarf/necklace made from soft jersey material in heather gray and carnation pink stripes. I've never seen anything like it, but out-of-the-ordinary and pleasantly perplexing seems to be the name of the game at Ponshop. read more

Found this gem of a gallery on a recent visit to Fredericksburg. They have a wide variety of pottery, jewelry and art from local artisans. The young lady who helped me with my selections of jewelry for gifts was also one of the makers of ceramics so of course I had to have one of her mugs! The treat for myself was a vase from Tallhouse pottery and I love it. Gabe the owner shipped it for me and we ended up having a great follow up conversation. I feel like I made a new friend and hope to meet her in person next time I'm in the area. *this is a review about at class that was held here only.* A group of girlfriends and myself RSVP'd about a week prior to the first Friday terrarium class they had. First let me say I was pleased in all aspects of the teaching. The lady who holds the class is very nice and informative, however, I was more then annoyed with what I viewed to be misleading advertising. We RSVP'd as requested well in advance, but when we arrived they had used up all the beautiful terrarium containers on people who had walked in without appointments and had nothing left for us but glass cookie jars. Some, like the one I had, were HUGE, and they did not offer any type of compensation for their error, like another small plant for the excessive container (which we asked for) or any type of monetary reimbursement for their mistake. If I had walked in I would not have paid for what I received even if my friends continued to take the class. I did have a great time with my friends and they taught us what they said they would but if you see the attached photos you will see why I will be skeptical to us their services again, and will have to recommend with great caution. read more

Adorable little art shop! The employees have always been kind and inviting each time I've been in here. There are some beautiful pieces of art for sale (locally-made jewelry, paintings, pottery, sun catchers, and other unique gifts such as soaps, leather-wrapped writing pads, etc). Gabe and Scarlett are a wonderful talented couple. Their gallery is clean, bright and friendly. I have enjoyed clay classes with Scarlett and our daughter was delighted with a painting class with Gabe. My six year old daughter took a spring break art workshop recently and she LOVED it. The classes were taught by the studio owners Scarlett and Gabriel Pons. My daughter got a chance to sketch beautiful, outdoor landmarks in downtown, she tried her hand at spray painting and worked hard on a ceramic piece. I was very happy with the classes and I will be enrolling her in more. Scarlett and Gabriel bring year of experience, love and expertise to each class and their art form. read more
