Clothing: Optional. If you plan to wear swimwear, I'd recommend putting it on at the parking lot since there isn't much privacy or covered area at the cove for changing. How to get there: A scenic 0.75-mile hike. Water: Warm-ish (for Tahoe standards) and a bright turquoise color. There are porta-potty restrooms available at the parking lot at the start of the trail. When I went, I only saw a couple of older men fully nude; most people were wearing swimwear. The hike is a bit steep at the beginning, so sturdy shoes or water shoes are a good idea. A lot of people bring water sports gear, coolers, and picnic setups. There was even a small hippie-style drum circle near the cove, which added to the laid-back vibe. Please remember to pack out all your trash and help keep this beautiful spot clean.

Pope Beach is one of several beaches located on National Forest land. When my husband and I came for a visit 2 Wednesdays ago (in March), it is during the off peak season. It has gated access for cars, in which it cost $10 (but prices increase during July 4th weekend). But we ended up parking along State Highway 89 (among other cars) and walked on the bike trail over to the beach. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed. It was nice to be able to visit this beach when it was not crowded and just watch the water (which looks to be really clean). The beach itself was very clean and this beach allows for you to swim, kayak, canoe or paddleboard. The beach does have public restrooms. There were also picnic tables and plenty of shade from the trees. Definitely a place to consider when you come to Lake Tahoe in the warmer months if you are looking for a little lake/ beach fun.

Recommend booking a reservation as you will be taking a chance trying to time the 10:30AM opening for parking. We came on a Wednesday and the best part about reservations is the beach never felt too crowded once we were inside. There are three distinct areas, the boat launch, the picturesque cove with all the boulders you see on instagram, and the longer more open beach area. We picked the picturesque area and got lucky to find a small section we could carve out of the beach after arriving around 10 am. I'm sure on weekends this cove fills up even sooner so get there early as everyone mentions. Great area for paddle boarding, climbing rocks and relaxing on the beach. Definitely plan to come back again next summer, but will not be on a weekend. Seeing the lines for the parking lot midweek was enough to convince me. All in all if you have an opportunity to go do it! Just make sure you have a plan before you do to maximize your time and fun.

Most important, do make your parking reservation, $15. Opens at 8:30am, we arrived very early ensuring a great parking spot and a choice of position on the beach. Bringing your own shade is a must, umbrellas are the least popular, we had an Easy Up, perfect! The limited parking also limits the number of people so always comfortable and doesn't feel too crowded. Many bring their paddle boards, floats and canoes. People watching is top notch Fun day being surrounded by people just relaxing, chilling and enjoying the moment. Restrooms are near by, an easy walk and across the parking lot is their restaurant. Nice menu choices and prices quite okay. Later on in the year there are no reservations needed but to have the best experience, check to be sure if you need one before planning your visit. I shall return and that is the best thing you can say about a first time visit!

Another family sold us their spot for this week. If you've ever been here to Fallen leaf you know the breath taking views this lake and it's grounds has to offer. Our campsite was the largest and no one was behind us. Our kids played in a creek nearby. We hiked and ventured to a few waterfalls in Angora while here. It was so sad to see where the fires burned through this area. None of our photos taken here do the grounds any justice. Everything was pristine. I look forward to returning some day. I'm due for some grounding and getting lost in nature.

We came here to…read morekayak and decided up this spot because it was highly recommended by the woman who owned the Airbnb that we were staying in. On the afternoon that we arrived, we were lucky that the parking kiosk was not working and the gate to enter was open, so we lucked out with free parking. But will mention that this most likely was during off season because it was pretty cold on the day of our visit (we were one of very few crazy people willing to kayak in the water on this cold day (low to mid 60's). After we parked, my husband and I pulled our foldable kayaks over to the sand. After putting our kayaks together, we launched ourselves from the sand and then were off. Initially the water nice and calm but about 30 minutes into it, the waves started to get choppy and the winds were blowing kind of hard, so we only managed to kayak for about an hour but it was a fun visit. The view from my kayak was very beautiful and serene (before the winds starting to blow harder). Please note that near this beach is dog friendly, Zephyr Shoals Beach north of Zephyr Cove Resort. But where we parked and launched our kayaks is not dog friendly. There is food sold from the concession stands and there are restrooms on this beach (but I did not use any of the restrooms, nor did I purchase any food). Also kayaks are available for rent here. Overall, we had a good visit and would consider coming back here to kayak again the next time we visit Lake Tahoe.

Drove up here to the entrance of DL Bliss Park at 7:55am Wednesday only to find Park Closed sign…read morewith a lowered gate to the front entrance to the Park. I park the car at the entrance right off of Highway 89, grab our hiking gear and start walking the 1 mile to the ranger station. 25 minutes later at the ranger station, we learn that the ranger just opened the front entrance to the park, letting in vehicles. $10 pay by credit card at the ranger station for each vehicle. No way we are walking back, as by the time we get the car the 15 vehicle Calawee Cove parking lot will be filled by 9am. T 10 more minutes and we join the Rubicon trail at the Lighthouse parking lot. 5 miles and 4+ hours later we hike the Rubicon trail through the Calawee Cove. these are the only flush toilet bathrooms on this part of the trail. Very clean bathrooms. When I wash my hands in the sink, the water turns brown. Wouldn't want to eat lunch at the beach with those hands. The Calawee Cove reminds me of Hawaii, with it's long light brown beaches, crystal clear waters, and bright green colored waters near shore, and deep blue waters farther ashore. Summer Lake Tahoe water temperature 64 degrees compared to 77 degrees in Hawaii. Very few people on the beach, due to only 15 parking spots, and the $10 pay by credit card entry fee at the ranger station. Takes me 70 minutes to hike the 2.3 miles of paved road back to our parked car at the Park entrance from Calawee Cove. 1000 feet elevation gain, at 6,000 feet elevation, and I'm dragging my feet at toddler speed back to the car. Wife does it in 65 minutes, and wife's sister does it in 60 minutes. Along the way meet various families with kids wearing swim suits and flip flops, and adults hauling towels, sun umbrellas, food, and other beach equipment, all walking to Calawee Cove. The rangers closed the park entrance gates to vehicles going the beach, once all 15 parking spots are taken.. These are folks who walked in, smiling now, but hiking back to the car with their mouths open gasping for air on the brutal return. Paved road so smooth it could be wheelchair accessible, at least on the way down!

Very small, but we were here off season (just the way I like it) and other than one other family, it is just us "two" here. So a private beach, lol. We are hosting our friends today. Showed them our free local parking spot. Gave them a quick tour of this area and all of Incline. A short 1.5 walk on the beautiful and easy Tahoe East Shore Trail. Just be careful of all the ebikes that do NOT have full control of their bikes or themselves. It would be nice if there was a separate bike path, or only allow manual bikes on the walking paths...? Atmosphere - Again, a very small, NOT so hidden beach. A nice stop/break from the 3 mile walk. Approximately the half way mark from Incline to Sand Harbor. Restrooms nearby, but I can NOT recommend them. More like outhouses with NO sink to wash your hands. Easy walk or bike ride. Fairly easy, very short walk/hike to each path. Service - Self service. Price - Free. Owner Comment - N/A.
