This was a great spot to launch our paddleboards from! Very short walk from the parking lot to the water, and a scenic 3 mile paddle to Emerald Bay. Honestly once we reached Emerald Bay we both agreed we enjoyed the views from Baldwin Beach and the surrounding area more. We arrived around 8:30am on a late August Friday morning and there was plenty of parking left. The parking fee was $12 and allowed return privileges as well as access to Pope Beach and Kiva Beach. We came back in the evening around 6pm and there was still a decent amount of parking left. The parking lot to the left has closer water access while the parking lot to the right had less people/crowds. I recommend coming early because there are so many boats, jet skis, and motorized vehicles on the lake that makes it difficult to paddle. They blast music and speed back and forth not too far from shore :(

My family and I visited Baldwin Beach in early July. We arrived somewhat early at around noon, and found that there were a few people already at the beach - but not to the point that it was overwhelming. Overall it was a beautiful beach with incredible views of the snow capped mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe. I would advise that you come prepared with your own beach chairs and cooler with food and drinks; as these aren't available to rent or purchase on the beach. Super crystal clear and clean water, which you are sharing with geese ! Overall this was a very family friendly beach - and one which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Beautiful beach! The back drop of the mountains at this spot is gorgeous! We even saw snow at the top of the mountains in the background in mid July. The beach was clean. The day we were there it was really busy so parking was tricky. However, there was lots of parking there (it just happened to be a very busy weekend). There was parking there and across the street. We ended up finding a spot across the street. Definitely a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.

Off season visit. Dropped by simply because I've passed by it so many times and decided to check it out...it looks inviting from the highway above. I'm guessing from the setup...large grounds, good amount of parking, trails, bike paths, sandy beach, picnic tables...that it probably remains a busy spot during the season. But right now, although a handful of people were using the grounds, it was quite serene. Definitely looks like a good spot for a group or individual to spend a few hours enjoying another lovely stretch of Tahoe waterfront.

To beat the July heat the Sunday, we headed to Baldwin Beach around 5:30pm and stayed until sunset. It was perfect. The crowd started to leave around 6:30-7pm and it felt as if we were the only one there. Such a beautiful and relaxing beach. Upon entering, it was $10 to park our car. There's only so many stalls so the person at the gate stated there may be only 5 spots left. We pulled up and there was a parking spot right at the walkway to the beach. It was a short 2-3mins walk from our car to where we wanted to sit. We had a few foldable lawn chairs with us. No issues at this time to find a spot right at the water. It was a shame that ppl do not pick up after themselves. A nice young guy was picking up trash that was left. Worth the drive. Such a nice and relaxing evening before the weeks starts.

I first came to Baldwin Beach in the summer for my bachelorette. During the summertime, it can get quite crowded and parking can be quite challenging. If you don't get a spot in the lot closest to the beach, be prepared to walk quite a distance. In the off-season, although the parking lot is closed, it's quite enjoyable, to come down and enjoy the peace and serenity of the beach without all of the tourists. It is more of a rocky-sandy beach than smooth sand, but nonetheless a beautiful spot to take in all that Tahoe has to offer.

We saw this beach last year while we were jet skiing. Chanced upon it today with the kids and loved the beach! Sand is so beautiful. Water is cold as expected in June. There were geese and some boats that accompanied our stay; not much boats due to windy weather. Be prepared to pay $10 cash or credit.

Pretty great beach! Some friends of mine love to kayak up here and they had invited my boyfriend and I to go up with them one weekend. It is worth it to get up at zero-dark thirty to make it to the beach by 8am. As it opens, parking fills up QUICK. It was $10 and there is someone there to collect the fee. I think it is worth it to go early to get closer parking. This beach does fill up but it isn't busy on the beach, if that makes sense... My friends were kind enough to let us know that this beach really doesn't have any shade. In the afternoon, it did get pretty windy and we saw a couple beach umbrellas take off. When you go, try to take a shelter for shade but be prepared to anchor that sucker. The beach sand was a little rough. As I've gotten older, my feet have become more and more sensitive. As the sand got into my sandals, I started have some serious pain. I think water shoes would've been the way to go up here. The beach sand also holds heat well and it'll be hot, hot, hot on your feet. There is a place where you can rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards if you keep going East on the beach. You can find more info at https://kayaktahoe.com/#rates . We did a standup paddle board each for 2 hours. A 2-hour rental was $45 each. Definitely a well spent $45! I had never tried paddle boarding before. I sat on mine for 1.5 hours and then got some courage and tried to stand up the rest of the time. It was really fun! Not sure I would rent again but I'm glad I tried it. This beach was really awesome! It sure could use a boardwalk to you don't have to walk on the rough sand the whole time. Overall, I would go back here. It was a really nice beach. Very clean. My friends and I left our important belongings on the beach and no one bothered them. It is more of a family beach and you got the feeling people would look out for your things. 8/10 recommend

We paid $10 to gain access to a handful of beaches, however, we only went to Baldwin... but not Baldwin that is more west as it had too much goose poop everywhere. See pic of map for a better spot. Because it was raining earlier in the day and cleared up by 4pm, we had the entire beach to ourselves the last hour we were there. There was construction going on next to the parking lot and it looked like there had been a fire as there weren't a lot of trees around. Not sure if it was a natural fire or what. In any case, the only cons were that the sand is really course and hurts to walk on. We launched our paddle boards and carrying them was a bit hard on the skin bc pieces of sand that are on your board will rub against you as you walk with it when you get out of the lake. there is a bathroom in the parking lot which is nice. There was also a bathroom at the goose poop area parking lot as well.

Get here early!! When we arrived at 8:30 there was tons of parking, 4 hours later the line was insane!

Ask the Community - Baldwin Beach

Are they allowing to fly drone there?

    No drones allowed.

    Are dogs allowed?

NO, at least as of August 2019. There are signs posted at the entrance, and the park ranger at the pay booth will turn you away if there's a dog in the car. Dogs ARE allowed at Kiva Beach, which is just a short drive away!

How far would it take to kayak to Emerald bay from here?

45 min to 1 hr Depending on wind & how fast one paddles

Pope Beach is one of several beaches located on National Forest land. When my husband and I came for a visit 2 Wednesdays ago (in March), it is during the off peak season. It has gated access for cars, in which it cost $10 (but prices increase during July 4th weekend). But we ended up parking along State Highway 89 (among other cars) and walked on the bike trail over to the beach. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed. It was nice to be able to visit this beach when it was not crowded and just watch the water (which looks to be really clean). The beach itself was very clean and this beach allows for you to swim, kayak, canoe or paddleboard. The beach does have public restrooms. There were also picnic tables and plenty of shade from the trees. Definitely a place to consider when you come to Lake Tahoe in the warmer months if you are looking for a little lake/ beach fun.

Most important, do make your parking reservation, $15. Opens at 8:30am, we arrived very early ensuring a great parking spot and a choice of position on the beach. Bringing your own shade is a must, umbrellas are the least popular, we had an Easy Up, perfect! The limited parking also limits the number of people so always comfortable and doesn't feel too crowded. Many bring their paddle boards, floats and canoes. People watching is top notch Fun day being surrounded by people just relaxing, chilling and enjoying the moment. Restrooms are near by, an easy walk and across the parking lot is their restaurant. Nice menu choices and prices quite okay. Later on in the year there are no reservations needed but to have the best experience, check to be sure if you need one before planning your visit. I shall return and that is the best thing you can say about a first time visit!

I came to Tahoe every summer growing up, and although it's…read moregotten a lot more crowded overall, it's still my favorite place to go when I can come out here. The water is so clear and beautiful, and it's one of the best places to paddleboard/kayak. Some tips for anyone wanting to go here for the day: 1. PLAN AHEAD! Yes, vacations are supposed to be relaxing but if you don't put in the work to research and plan things ahead of time, then of course you're going to be disappointed when you can't find parking or gain entry to not only this beach, but tons of other places in the basin. They've implemented a parking reservation system sometime in the last 2 or so years. Go to Reserve Nevada and it's $10 for NV license plates, and $15 for out of state plates. 2. GO EARLY! Rule of thumb with anything in Tahoe (or any major park really) is go early or go home. I left SLT at around 6:30 am to give myself wiggle room getting up to the entrance for Sand Harbor. They open at exactly 8:00 am on the dot. 3. Entering the lot: Coming from the south/SLT, it will be a left turn into the entrance. You can queue up in the middle lane dividing the lanes going north/south, but there is limited space to do so. If it's too early, you can keep driving and park at the parking lot for Monkey Rock Trailhead for a bit before turning back to head down to the entrance. Coming from the north/Incline Village, it's a right turn into the entrance. They block off the right turn lane into the entrance with cones if they aren't open yet, so you have to time it right if you're approaching that way. 4. Paddleboarding: Clearly Tahoe is the only paddleboard/kayak rental business on shore. It's pretty pricy at $60 for 2 hours on a paddleboard. I opted instead to rent a paddleboard from SUP Tahoe in SLT and it was $50 for the whole day + $15 overnight fee. That way, I could have the paddleboard picked up and loaded onto my sedan the night before and head out to Sand Harbor early in the AM. If you go early like I do, you get to experience the best water conditions because morning is much calmer than the afternoon. As always, getting a reservation is easier on a weekday. I planned my whole trip only a few days before going, in late June/early July (before 4th of July). It's easy if you avoid major holidays and weekends. If you think the main beach is too crowded, you can paddleboard or kayak further up the shore and explore a bit!

On the afternoon that we arrived, we were lucky that the parking kiosk was not working and the gate to enter was open, so we lucked out with free parking. After we parked, my husband and I pulled our foldable kayaks over to the sand. After putting our kayaks together, we launched ourselves from the sand and then were off. Initially the water nice and calm but about 30 minutes into it, the waves started to get choppy and the winds were blowing kind of hard, so we only managed to kayak for about an hour but it was a fun visit. The view from my kayak was very beautiful and serene (before the winds starting to blow harder). Please note that near this beach is dog friendly, Zephyr Shoals Beach north of Zephyr Cove Resort. But where we parked and launched our kayaks is not dog friendly. There is food sold from the concession stands and there are restrooms on this beach (but I did not use any of the restrooms, nor did I purchase any food). Also kayaks are available for rent here. Overall, we had a good visit and would consider coming back here to kayak again the next time we visit Lake Tahoe.
