1st time visitor here for a show. Nice place, plenty of room and reasonably priced concession stand. Plus goodies are allowed in the auditorium. Plenty of ushers to get us to our seats and answer questions. We sat near the orchestra pit so view was good, not too close to the stage and not overly loud. Parking was a little hard to find - especially since it was a mid-week afternoon show while classes were in session. read more

Accessible seating is awesome here! Good cost, they have listening devices available by leaving your ID with the person up front at the rotunda that allow you to hear the play from the stage mics. The chairs in Accessible area move and while they have arms, they are high enough to allow for larger behinds to sit in them. Even the main seating has been updated to allow for larger behinds, though you are very close arm and leg wise in those seats and getting out with a cane would not be advisable. Sound is great and so far every play has been stellar. From the Popejoy of my childhood the improvements are astronomical. A+ (PS they now allow the food from their little food area to be taken into the theater. No outside food. It's cookies, nuts and candies, hot drinks or sodas and water. (Baked goods and warm drinks are 'as available' and may run out or be unavailable some shows.) read more

I'm a seasoned veteran going to Popejoy Hall since 2012. I used to get the cheaper seats up in the balcony when I couldn't afford the expensive seats down below in the Pit or Mezzanine. Now I like to sit in the Pit or no further than the front rows of the Mezzanine. I like to be up close. The seats in the Pit are very affordable in the left and right sections. It's what you can afford. As far as the parking I have a handicap placard so I get to part from in the Cornell structure. Before I would use the free shuttle which was nice but there is sometimes a wait to go on and get off. Parking is now up to $10 at the Cornell structure. It's what you can afford. read more

I purchase tickets yearly for Popejoy presents Broadway New Mexico. Did a matinee on Sunday. The electronic ticket devices make it a quick seating. The lobby had young gentlemen playing Christmas music. Refreshments can be purchased. We saw Hadestown. Story about a young girl, Eurydice, hungry and selling her soul to Hades in the Underworld for food and warmth. Orpheus, her boyfriend, goes to find her. A another plot surrounding Eurydice and Hades as well. Much more interesting story than I have portrayed. What was amazing to me is the level of talent that graces the Popejoy Stage. If You haven't experienced it is worth a try. Last show was Lion King. I appreciated both productions! Especially fond of seeing something new like Hadestown. The casts have Broadway, television and even movie credits. This is top level entertainment. I would love to encourage more productions! read more

What a joyful night attending the NMBC version of the Nutcracker Ballet! Popejoy Hall is well run, clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The Nutcracker was performed by 120 performers and dancers. Epic! The costumes, props, and even the pyrotechnics were great! The Ballerina and Cavalier were top-notch, professionals. Disappointing customer service! Charging customers to exchange tickets for the rescheduled Hamilton show (originally scheduled in 2022) is double dipping. Do better, Popejoy! As a "courtesy" I was issued tickets for the 2023 show but for a date I'm not available. Because the ticket price has gone up since I purchased tickets, I had to pay the difference. Fair, if I had been given the option to choose the date I was rescheduled for in 2023. A one time exchange at no fee to the customer wouldn't cost Popejoy anything! You'll make up the difference in the ticket price with the sale of the tickets I released, especially since I exchanged my Friday seats to attend a Thursday show. read more

Great place for a show! The venue is small enough that there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Acoustics are great so sound is always wonderful. Popejoy offers a wonderful variety of offerings at a reasonable price. Sometimes the lighting is pretty distracting, as at the recent Simon & Garfunkel show, where a spotlight directed at the guitar was hitting the curtains and distracting enough that, during the whole show, people disrupting the show commenting on it. Volunteers are quite helpful and the venue is easily navigated. Parking is always pretty easy, however parking payment kiosks leave you in a long line every time (this is likely user-error), you should arrive early to avoid standing in line forever to pay. We've been here 12 times and will return. read more

We go to the Popejoy two or three times a year to see a show or event, and are always happy with the experience. Parking is easy and they are handling Covid well and have good processes in place to move people through. This year we've seen Mean Girls and the Temptations, and we will be back in a few months to see Drum Tao. Our favorite thing is to see a show, get dinner, spend the night, then hit the Standard Diner (now the Range Cafe Downtown) for breakfast before returning to Los Alamos. I'm grateful they are such a large part of our entertainment plan for the year, keep up the good work!! read more

An evening at Popejoy Hall is an evening well spent. It has an excellent VIP area (worth the splurge) and the employees in that room are so friendly, so kind. I appreciate the intermissions. To top it off the show (The Book of Mormon) was great fun. The chairs and lack of leg room could definitely be worse. PRO TIP: Parking in G Lot is free as well as the shuttles that take Popejoy goers back and forth. It's located north of the Lomas/University intersection, on the right. My friend and I mistakenly parked in a lot we thought was "G" only to later find out it was T lot. Fortunately for us the shuttle driver kindly dropped us off at my car and I didn't get a ticket. read more

I absolutely LOVE this venue. What a privilege it is to have the opportunity in Albuquerque to see so many quality performances in such a wonderful facility. I have seen countless shows here, from Phantom of the Opera (NY CAST!) to West Side Story, Dracula2000, The Nutcracker and numerous Schooltime Series productions. The ticket ordering process is effortless, the execution of each performance has been flawless. The staff are outstanding. The facility itself is spectacular, not a bad seat in the house, clean, exceptionally well maintained. Most recently I saw the Moon Mouse Space Odyssey production with Sweet Bella & my littles...wow. Stunning visuals, quite possibly the most fun I've ever had there...I was smiling from ear to ear...my kids were engrossed every moment of it!!! Beautiful facility! Impressed with the upcoming lineup of shows: Waitress, Jesus Christ Superstar 50th Anniversary, Hamilton, to mention a few. We came for niece's dance recital, HERE TO ENTERTAIN, and the randomly chosen seats were perfect - center orchestra. Seats are comfortable, & the angle is such that a big head in front doesn't obstruct much. Acoustics were terrific. If we lived here, we'd be frequent patrons. On vacation, we will return. read more

I can't imagine a better venue. The acoustics were great for the NM Philharmonic. The seating is situated in a way that everyone can see the stage clearly. My only gripe would be about the parking. Let's start by saying how awesome The Book of Mormon was and I would highly recommend attending this production. Here is the part I must advise, you must be open-minded and not easily offended. Yes, the play is about the religion but this was also written by one of the creators of South Park. The crowd during my visit could not stop laughing at the twisted and very blunt comedy. The venue was awesome and their VIP services are worth getting or attending if you know someone who has that privilege. The LION KING never fails to deliver an emotional packed performance. I wish there were better venues for such an amazing show. Seats have no leg room. Three problems: 1. the physical space, 2. the poor selection of productions, 3. pricing. Problem 1. If this place was renovated in 1996 why didn't they do something about the incredibly inadequate raking of the orchestra seats? The raking is so shallow that, unless you are in the front row or on the aisle, you constantly have to shift from left to right to see around the person in the row in front of you. Problem 2. Despite their recent remembrance of Sondheim, in the over 20 years we've lived here, Popejoy has yet to present a single production of a Sondheim show. Yet, seemingly, year after year, we get Cats, and Phantom, and other Tourism Broadway productions. Sure, they're bringing in Hamilton, but how could they not? But, until covid, if you wanted to make sure you got a ticket, you had to buy 2 full seasons of warmed-over Tourism Broadway productions. Problem 3. We are fortunate to have family back East so we have access to Broadway proper (and any number of great DC theaters). So we see first-hand that Popejoy is charging Broadway prices for non-Broadway productions in a non-Broadway theater. read more

Love Popejoy! I bid on tickets at a March of Dimes function and was so excited to attend this show. It was NM philharmonic: Featuring music by Led Zeppelin. We got third row center seats, which was fantastic. The NM philharmonic did such a beautiful job and they partner up a live singer to cover Led Zeppelin. His name was Randy Jackson, former singer for a band called Zebra. It was a packed show and I love how they partnered the two. read more

My sister and I went to watch "To Kill a Mockingbird"last night! I was impressed by the actor's ability to capture the essence of the story. I truly felt like I was watching the book unfold. Popejoy Hall was very nice and well kept, I gave 4 stars because it was a bit on the colder side. My only suggestion is bring a warm jacket, and get there about 30-45 minutes early. Popejoy is the only venue of it's size and configuration in town. I've seen awesome shows there over the years and I'm glad we have it. But, it's far from the most convenient place to see shows. Parking is messy though UNM does what it can and frankly the old school poured concrete construction doesn't exactly make it an acoustic gem. I wish we had a venue to compete with it. For me it will always be a matter of what show is playing there. Good shows are good shows pretty much where ever they are. I've seen great shows at Tingley and that place is ultimately a rodeo house. Having worked at Popejoy years ago I know about it's limitations. No wagon house. Mediocre at best back of house to boot. Nonetheless Popejoy is the place to avoid local theatre and support touring shows. Absolutely support Popejoy when a good show comes through. But, please consider supporting local theatres too. It's the only way this towns scene will grow. read more

What a great time I had here! I went in early June to watch Les Miserables Broadway show and I absolutely loved the experience. The venue is great and parking was available for $7. The theater is elegantly lit and the staff is very courteous. The consignment food and gift shop are as nice. This place has nothing to envy of a big city performing arts theater. Everything you need to have a glamorous experience is there and to make things even better, people are used to dressing nice and formally to attend every performance (no dress code is enforced though). read more

Popejoy is the best place in Albuquerque to see national and international touring acts. Their 2014-2015 season had a huge variety of performances. I have been to four so far this season: The Nutcracker Ballet, Chicago, Sleeping Beauty and Jessica Fellowes' talk on Downton Abbey. All of which were fantastic. We always purchase orchestra seats so I can't comment on what seating like is upstairs. The seats are comfortable and not cramped. Bathroom lines can get a little long right before the show and during intermission but tend to move quickly. Paid parking is available in the garage or you can use the park and ride shuttle, which is free. I have never had a problem taking the shuttle. There has always been one waiting to leave every time I have tried to take it. If you love the theatre and want to see national and international-level performances, Popejoy is the place to go! read more

It's really nice that Albuquerque has a place like Popejoy. It attracts traveling Broadway shows, and injects some culture into our fair city. I like it. Also, it's great that this little gem is housed on the UNM campus. It provides a real resource for aspiring actors and those who want to be associated with theatre in other capacities (grips, musicians, etc.). The seating from the mezzanine is pretty nice. In fact, it's a smaller theatre, so none of the seats are really bad. One of the other great things about Popejoy is access to parking. There's free parking on the UNM campus, but make sure you get there early enough. There's also the garage, so you have that option. read more

I've been to many productions at Popejoy, since l've subscribed to Broadway in New Mexico a few years when the line-up strikes my fancy. It also seems like the organizers have worked hard to bring a variety of acts/performances to the venue, which is really one of the only places in NM to see big-budget productions (that aren't operas). In my opinion, the space is great, with good acoustics (when it's not too loud), comfortable seating, and decent leg room. The qualms I have are mostly the price point, which makes it prohibitively expensive for many to go, and propagates the state's class divide/the idea that theater is only for rich old people, but shows are expensive to put on, so what can you really do. The other thing that I find annoying is the presentation before shows telling us to buy raffle tickets for a fundraiser. It seems tacky and unprofessional to me, in addition to taking up time, when musicals tend to run on the longer side already. read more

Here for a showing of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" the Broadway version. Popejoy Hall is probably the biggest theater in Albuquerque, and even New Mexico. The seating is comfortable, they are ADA compliant, plenty of restrooms and can move a lot of people through during intermission. They have a small snack bar that serves coffee, tea, brownies and other assorted snacks in the lobby, but no food or drinks are allowed in the theater itself and it seems to be randomly open. Parking is available in the garage nearby, or you can take a bus from event parking lots near the stadium. Overall a great place for a broadway show with plenty of dining options on Central Ave. nearby (Route 66). Accoustics are great and there really aren't any bad seats in the house. read more

I have been going to shows at Popejoy Hall since I was a child. The Popejoy Ovation series brings ABQ Broadway-quality shows year after year. The best part is that they make the shows affordable. Popejoy is also dedicated to bring arts to the community and are usually holding a raffle to benefit a great cause. The venue is great and there is not a bad seat in the house. My favorite place to site is in the mezzanine due to the ability to visually take in all the sights on stage. Sitting on the second story also seems to have premium acoustical hotspots. Addition (July 2015): I wanted to add that while the venue and the shows that come through are quality, this year, there was a major dip in the process of securing season tickets. I know there were a lot of problems that myself and others faced when trying to get a better subscription. read more

We love Popejoy. They have great Broadway shows and the Schooltime series that runs during the school year is the best.

We were there on a elementary school field trip and have been several other times for field trips. The performances are amazing, but the staff is awful. I understand they are mostly volunteers and are dealing with a ton of children, but if you don't like children or have no patience, this gig probably isn't for you. It's unfortunate when the staff make you and the children feel unwelcome. read more

This year I saw The Lion King and Spamalot at Popejoy Hall. I always go in holding my breath because I expect all these sold out performances to be packed and it to be packed... Its never met that expectation! It can hold all the people it seats easily. They have a great little snack bar. Its very classy. I enjoy it every time. I've sat in the balcony and the second row, not one bad seat in the house. Great acoustics. Its worth seeing these high dollar shows in this theatre. Or, give yourself plenty of time (an hour?) to find parking -- take an Uber back to the theater -- and get to your seats. read more
