We came here after having dinner somewhere else. The music and the vibe was good from the outside and we wanted to check it out. They were holding a concert kind of next door (via Sister's mean door), we didn't know the band we just stayed at the bar/arcade area. Even though we were there, we were still able to hear them. They played very nice. Since we were full, we just got a couple of drinks. The prices for the drinks were affordable, yet very well made. The staff seems friendly. The lady at the bar made a drink for me with rum, because the item I originally wanted from the menu was out. Don't know the name, but it was delicious. The male bartender working on Tuesday, March 31st is the biggest jerk that I have ever encountered in my 40 year food service career. We had a group of eight 60+ men looking for food and drinks. The bartender had an attitude and a big smart***. Not my first time in Albuquerque but first time here. One of the gentlemen in our group is an Albuquerque native who recommended the Sister Bar. He now regrets the decision and should not be put in a position where he felt like he needed to apologize to the group he hosted. Sister is my favorite bar in Albuquerque. I'm not much of a bar person, but they're great. The signature cocktails are delicious and contain the perfect mixture of interesting flavors and combinations. The food is delicious and fun and caters well to vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters- though I will say my friends and I are sad they've changed the menu and gotten rid of tacos except for specials, and burritos. The breaded cauliflower ones were so good. They host 80s parties, most notably the Halloween 80s music video Thrilla party every year, and it's so much fun. They also host a lot of live music artists, and I've seen a couple good ones there. The mood inside is dark and a cool kind of spooky even when it's not Halloween. There are also tables and booths out front to be able to sit outside. I feel comfortable in the atmosphere there and tend to feel like the crowd and clientele are friendly and fun. read more

When in Rome, you do roman things and when in Downtown ABQ, I guess you go to Sister. I had spent a few days in ABQ and Sister was definitely on my list of the best bars to visit. Everyone I met in ABQ essentially screamed that I had to visit this place and I am so flipping happy that I did. I actually came here twice, both times were mega fun, but different in their own ways. OK, my first night I was at Sister, they had a 90s night. I LOVE to dance so this was totally up my alley. I walked in and there were hoards of people on the dance floor getting their groove on. The music was pretty good too. I made sure to make my way onto the floor to have some time to shake it a little. It eventually got a little too crowded for my liking and I went to another bar. I enjoyed my dancing experience though. 2nd time was my last night in NM, I went with a new friend and I actually was able to taste the food. It was sunday and quieter than the first night I went. Now, I hadn't had the best experience with food in ABQ, but the person I went with urged me to try the tacos and I am so happy that I did. They were amazing. Dare I say?...the best food I had in NM. Most definitely. The atmosphere is really nice here too. There are a few pin ball machines (if thats your thing) to play while having a nice cocktail. I didn't try my hand at those, but I appreciate a barcade. All in all, I really wish I had spent more time at Sister. I think my food experiences would have been more positive if I ate more here. This place is a vibe and I am here for it! A group of us went out on an appetizer and drink crawl in the area and ended up here. They had fancy drinks to more affordable and plenty of arcade games and tables for people to hang out at. I had a seltzer that I couldn't finish and the appetizer we got was a bit too rich for my taste in sheer amounts of cheese but I hear that's a usual thing in New Mexico. I loved the vending machine filled with nostalgia bits and it looks like a good place for concerts. The bar staff were friendly enough even with our multiple split checks between couples. Horrible service!!!! Myself (24) and 3 other friends (28)(24)(25), were bar hopping and wanted to play pinball so decided to go to sister . The worker at the door said out IDs were fake , which they are NOT!!!! Never had this issue ever . I can't believe they would let us in. We didn't even wanna drink, we just wanted to play pinball. Completely killed the night. Had multiple people look at our ID and they all said they couldn't trust us. They're New Mexico IDs so I'm not to sure if they need to further their education on REAL IDs !!! This was the "lady" not letting us in. PATHETIC. Wouldn't recommend. I come to this place often and it is such a great hang out spot! Recently they have updated their menu with more cocktails which are absolutely fantastic! I ordered the rich girl which had a cantaloupe base in it and it was so delicious and refreshing. They have a ton of local beers too which are great for the guys. My boyfriend ordered the Ex Novo Lager which was really flavorful. The ambiance was on point for a Thursday night! Can't beat the aesthetic of this place with all the wooden decor and dance floor. Old arcades and pinball machines add to the fun ambiance. There's a good amount of places to sit down. However, (I try not to hold the following against the owner because I know how hard it can be to run a business) beware on busy nights like Saturdays it can take 25-35 minutes to get a drink from the bar. NO double shots. 2 drinks per customer limit. Bar tenders can be absolute assholes to gentlemen. They will lie about being out of ingredients if they don't feel like making a mixed drink (and again guys get screwed). These factors make Effex, Launchpad or Anodyne feel like dreamscapes. As a result it's turning into my most hated bar/venue. It's causing me to pregame hard so I don't have to deal with the bar tenders. read more

So I live in hotels and bar/restaurants like this for work. I haven't had to deal with the rudeness like this many times ever. I informed my bartender that my old fashioned (made by a different bartender) was maybe 1 1/2 ounce max. His response was that's why we use a "jigger" and walked to the POS. He then delivered my check and walked away (I hadn't asked for a check). The bartender who made the drink was training a new staff member so I figured he was distracted. With a rocks glass with their big rock 1 1/2 oz old fashioned would fill more than 1/2 the rocks glass. I accepted the short pour but the rudeness by the bartender was amazing. I literally expressed my observations to him, I never asked for a refund I just wanted to make sure they were aware. He cashed me out and wouldn't return to converse about it at all. I then asked to talk to whoever the manager was and he said "I'm not doing this" and walked away. It's such a shame, I would have had a positive review if not for bad service ( bartender with mustache). The crazy thing is I wasn't asking for a refund or new drink. I am a co-owner of a bar/restaurant and would want to know when this happens. The food was good, good beer selection but the bartender I had ruined my whole experience which is a shame! I would not recommend this place at all which is sad, it has so much potential. From the bartender's response I'd guess there's probably not much management going on. To edit the review, when I was leaving I asked the person working the door if there was a manager on duty and she said yes, I asked if I could talk to them and she said "I don't know where he's at". There is great potential but service and food/drinks is what keeps doors open. I'd rate this as a place that makes their $ after 10pm which is a shame because their burger was good but to keep the early night crowd you need better service. read more

My favorite place to hangout! This is a burque gem! Get good beers, tacos, awesome brunch menu. Price point is appropriate. I have probably watched at least 6 concerts in here! Mostly metal bands which my BF loves. The service is good. I think the ambiance is pretty cool! They do have some arcade games which are nice especially when your waiting for a spot or your friends. I'd recommend this place if I have visitors from out of town or anybody new to town just to get the divey feeling and chill out ambiance of what burque is like after hours. This is the quintessential downtown hipster bar, and the bartenders all know it, with their snarky demeanor and lackadaisical charms show it. Sister books some of the best shows in Albuquerque, always. I saw Arkona here back before I could even drink, and in November, Boris is performing here. Boris. That is ridiculous. Derek Caterwaul and Nelson Crane also make regular appearances, bringing the awesomeness level to previously unknown heights. Also, they have food and beer. I'm preferential to the tacos, which are offered with a variety of fillings and have never left me unsatisfied. On busy nights, you'll likely have to pay a cover charge, and fighting for a bartender's attention feels, at times, fruitless and Kafkaesque. However, once you've got that pint of Deschutes in your hand and have scored a table on the "smoking patio" with your friends, there's no better place to be. The staff at Sister are aware that this place is the shit so don't be surprised by a little aloofness now and again. It's a hard job keeping this massive operation running, and the crew does a bang-up job. Sister is a critical downtown bar and is worthy of high praise. read more

Appreciate the vegan options and they are pretty good! Not the usual spot to find vegan fare, but good for a drink and an inexpensive meal.
