Fanica came in, and immediately took control of the situation. He was very honest and direct in his communication, which I really appreciated. Due to water damage from our attic to the first level of our house, we had repairs that were needed and decided to also take the opportunity to do some remodeling that we were considering. We needed to hire a contractor to assist with demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywall repairs, priming, texturing, painting, floor and shower tiling, and molding. I interviewed six contractors and felt the most comfortable with Fanica and thought his bid was the most reasonable. After three weeks of remodeling almost every room in the house, including our master bathroom, I cannot tell you how happy I am with Fanica and his crew. They were prompt and efficient, very friendly and professional. Fani always took the time to do things right and not cut corners. He would listen closely to what we wanted and would give his option of how best to meet our needs. Fani would often provide additional guidance, resources and services without any additional compensation. He and his team would always clean up as much as possible after each day's work and make sure the house was safe and usable; very important for us since we have 5 year old twin boys. Thanks again to the Yelp community for leading us to Fani Popescu-a gem of a general contractor! We had a bad plumbing leak in our master bath and called a few plumbers. Fani was the only one that could come out same day and he was at our home within a couple of hours. Fani quickly fixed the leak and promptly returned the following day to do some follow up work and pump some water from under the house. He was so quick, knowledgeable and friendly we got an estimate on completely renovating that dated bathroom. We shopped his complete package price (install of toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, flooring, complete retexturing, paint job etc.) against what it would cost to do these things ala carte and his price won out. Fani showed up on time ON THE NOSE every morning, and stayed until the job was done! At the beginning of the process Fani told us that he does not take on new jobs in the middle of his existing jobs, we didn't know how important that was at the time. We were simultaneously working with a different contractor on another part of the house who stretched out the job 50% longer because he kept leaving to bid other jobs, start other jobs, and finish other jobs in the middle of the day! Earlier this year, we hired Marius to renovate a home in San Ramon for us after we chose his very fair proposal was accepted. He estimated a three month time period for the work to be completed and actually finished in 2 1/2 months! He and Fani both worked on our house. The firm has very good sub-contractors, all of which were there and working every day. Our home turned out beautifully - we can't believe it is the same house. Last year Fanica remodeled two of our bathrooms and we're really impressed with his work. Since then we have been in regular contact with Fanica. We have recommended Fanica to many of our friends. He is very professional with the work. This week Fanica changed our living room and one of the bedroom carpet into Laminate flooring. He did an excellent job of laying out the laminate flooring and the final finishing was very impressive. Even though his son is not feeling well, he wanted to finish up this work without leaving it in the middle of it. It is really great of him. We decided to use Fani & Marius for a small bathroom remodel which turned into a major house remodel of two bathrooms, the lounge & den, the kitchen and two fireplaces as we took advantage of the house being empty. Anyone who has done this type of work will know how stressful it can be and ours was no different, however Marius did an excellent job of keeping things on track and keeping us fully informed. Part of the remodel was raising the lounge floor and laying 2800 sqf of hardwood flooring upstairs and down. The Popescu team did an excellent job and it looks fantastic. The quality of work on each part of the project was very good, Marius's guys know what they are doing and are very flexible in working with you to make sure you are happy with the result. The one mistake we made was in using another contractor we knew for part of the job and we ended up firing him and having Marius finish it off. This was a painful lesson... This was a two month project and it did run over by a few weeks, again not unusual when so much is being done. On almost any large project be prepared to be stressed and frustrated at some point, unless you're a machine it's going to happen. Fani and Marius did our kitchen remodel last fall. The kitchen was submitted for a prestigious award and was a runner-up in the competition. You can see my review for that kitchen in an earlier post. Most recently, they remodeled our master bathroom and hall bath. Once again, a brilliant job was done on both. The master was kind of a nightmare, because the old shower wall had dry rot all the way to the foundation and it all had to be rebuilt. No big deal for Fani. All in a day's work. We installed a great new and deep Jacuzzi tub and a very expansive shower that looks like it could hold ten people. Everything looks absolutely gorgeous. I bet this bathroom added $75,000 to our home value. My wife wanted a calming 'spa' experience and that is exactly what she got. One thing I have learned is the value of going with Fani's and Marius' own cabinet and stone slab fabricators. What a difference! We tried to get all smart by going with Direct Buy. You DO save a ton working with Direct Buy in just about every case, but Direct Buy wasn't able to get our hall bath cabinets designed and built soon enough for our job schedule, so we used Fani's and Marius' cabinet guy. We got the same exceptional custom quality we wanted for the identical price charged by Direct Buy, AND we got the cabinets built in TWO weeks instead of five! Their stone slab contractors have MUCH better pricing than Direct Buy and their turnaround time is just two or three days! Plus there's ZERO hassle factor using Fani's contractors because I don't need to be the go-between like I do with Direct Buy. The hall bath only took three weeks from demo to completion and their prices are always very fair. They operate like people used to do 50 years ago--a handshake, incredible courtesy, showing up every day and ON TIME, cleaning up the job site at the end of every day, and you can take this to the bank: their word is their bond, and they treat all their customers like they are family. We've never done any remodeling in our home. We were very unsure about what to expect and how to go about the process. After reading so many good things about Fanica and his company on Yelp we decided to contact him. His price was fair, his work was good and he responded to our questions promptly. He took our ugly master bath and turned it into a gem. The odd layout of the room made it difficult to decide how we could enlarge the shower (our main goal), but Fanica figured it out and did a beautiful job. Popescu Construction did a wonderful job on our home! They completely remodelled a bathroom, installed a granite counter in our kitchen, fixed our stairways and put base boards throughout the downstairs. Fanica helped us fine tune our design ideas and had great suggestions for improving the designs. He was patient with us as we asked many, many questions as we went through the construction process. They finished the work on time and for the estimated price even though they had to coordinate their work with another contractor doing work on our home for earthquake protection. We found Fanica and all of his employees to be professional, very hard-working (especially Luca), detail-orientated, and easy to have in our home. Popescu Construction recently completed remodeling work for my home and my wife and I could not be more pleased. Popescu Construction were not the first, nor last, contractors I called/met with. I called over a dozen contractors between March and July (2015). Some of the contractors I spoke with set appointments but did not show (one of which was a referral from a family friend), and some didn't even bother setting appointments since they were booked for several months. In the end I wound up receiving 8 estimates. When I called one of the contractors back, in order to add a few more projects, I was told, "I have two $300,000 projects going on right now so I won't be able to get to you." In the end I chose to hire Popescu Construction. Their bid was not the lowest bid, yet they were far from the highest bid we received. However, I liked the completed work that they showed me pictures of, and during our first couple of meetings they seemed very experienced and knowledgable, and were very courteous and genuinely people. Popescu Construction remodeled our master and guest bathrooms, doing excellent work on a floor to ceiling glass tile shower in the master. They converted what was originally two reach-in closets (separated by a wall) into a beautiful walk-in closet with great lighting and amazing wood floors. They replaced all of our old ugly and non-energy efficient aluminum sliding doors with beautiful french doors. They updated the look of our home's entrance by replacing a wooden step entrance into a more elegant one constructed of concrete and multi-colored pavers. They performed some other more minor projects, including replacing our 16 year old water heater, which fortunately happened to go out while Marius and Fani were still working on our home. I say fortunate because although we have a home warranty, when the plumbers hired by the warranty company showed up they tried to charge me over 1k in addition to what they were being paid by the warranty company. I was very suspicious and called Fani, at night because our water heater was leaking, and he told me he could take care of it. He gave me instructions as to how to shut the heater off so that it would not leak and the next day showed up bright and early to assess the problem. He was able to fix the problem and I paid significantly less than what the plumbers that previously came quoted me. Overall, our experience with Popescu Construction was fantastic. We never felt uneasy about having them in our home and we are very pleased with their work. They were punctual, friendly, honest, clean and professional. Thank you Yelp-sters for leading us to Fanica. We had a partial house remodel (i.e. we kept some things as is, such as windows, garage door, etc.), but for the most part, it was everything else! Fani has an extremely good eye on how to create more "space" during a remodel. We had the furnace moved to the garage and some adjustments to the galley kitchen. It turned out beautifully. The whole house had new laminate/tile/carpeting put in along with new appliances. Both bathrooms were updated. He also assisted us with issues with the roofing and beam issues in the family room. Fani helped with our kitchen renovation by installing our appliances (double wall ovens, cooktop stove, microwave, dishwasher, trash compactor and refrigerator). He also repaired dry wall, and modified our cabinet to fit the new refrigerator. He did an excellent job and his prices were reasonable. The things I liked most about him was that he was dependable, honest, paid attention to detail and was pleasant to work with. When we changed our plans or needed some extra worked on other things...he was flexible and worked with our schedule to get things done in the time frame that we needed. We hired Fanni to fix our backyard fence. He did a great job, and so we asked him to give us a estimate to update our kitchen. His quote was reasonable. Fanni changed our tiled countertops to granite. He also installed a sink, faucet, and updated our kitchen backsplash. He was quick, and he stopped to check to see if we were happy with the work. After he had finished with the kitchen, he changed our light fixtures and repaired other items around the house. His work is very good and he is punctual and cleans after his work is complete. Do you love your handyman? We do! Before Fani, we had some other guys who kind of nickel land dimed us, absolutely for everything (sounds familiar?). That's not Fanica's style. Here is a guy that'd care more about our convenience for appointments, our budget, and our needs, and he did it all with a genuinely warm smile and a friendly demeanor! I lost track of how many projects we had done by Fani and not once did we feel like we were getting ripped off and not once did we feel like we got some cheap looking fix. Some of the jobs he took care of for us include dry rot, plumbing, electrical, furniture installation, garage doors installation, and some other minor jobs for which he didn't charge us a dime. When my husband and I bought our first home and we needed work done before moving in I contacted Fani as well as another contractor. Fani was much more professional and presented a comprehensive estimate. I did not hesitate in choosing him for the work.
