Went to this place for lunch there was only one other car in line and no one else inside the store when I finally got my order the girl at the window asked me if I would like any sauce. I replied what kind of sauce ma'am she rolled her eyes and shut the window and then said oh it's OK ma'am I don't need any sauce other than the cocktail sauce for shrimp she said we ain't got any and handed me my bag and shut the window. I then checked my order and found there was no fries. I then got her attention through the window. She opened it up once again and rolled her eyes. I said ma'am, there's no fries in the bag. She again rolled her eyes, slam the window shut, then proceeded to open the window again with some fries in a bag that were tipped upside down, said nothing and slam the window again don't go here. It's not worth your time. I would've given it. Zero stars but yelps policy is at least one star this is typical of places in Sumter next time. Went to Popeyes bought chicken only meal. All of the chicken was burnt and hard. My apple pie was cooked in the same burnt grease. The store at 1187 broad will let you buy a meal and the tell you they dont have any coin which prompts you to say keep the change. (How tacky). They did not want to give a refund and all of the other chicken was burnt also. Poor quality control and customer service. No more Popeye burnt chicken for me. The customer service was less that subpar at best. The lady on the speaker seemed annoyed with the fact that we had never been to Popeyes, didn't know what to order, and ordered more than one order. They only had half the sides available (no big deal). When asked about sauce, I wanted a few different flavors, so I asked for them and was told that my order only came with two and I said, "that's fine, I'll pay for the extra.." I only ended up with one. My husband asked for spicy and definitely only got original. He also wasn't pleased with how dry it was. This is disappointing Popeyes . We got the new fish sandwich and it was the worst we have EVER tasted ‼ we went for lunch. The sandwich was not freshly prepared and it was overcooked. I have NEVER tasted such a dry over salted fish filet before. You could barely find the fish because it was so heavily breaded. Some areas of the filet had breading only and no fish. I've always been a fan of the food & when the Sumter store first opened everything was great. Over the last 2-3 months there has been an almost night/day difference here. The service is horrendous. Out of my last 5 visits my quickest order-to-eat time was 13 minutes with my longest being over 40 minutes! During all of these visits I've been there at off-peak times so there's been no crowds. The busiest of the five visits there may have been 20 customers between inside & drive thru & all but 3-5 were waiting on food. I've also noticed the restaurant is not as clean as it usually was, inside & in the parking lot. There has clearly been a fundamental change in the culture here, I'd guess a change in ownership by how drastic & quick it's changed in such a short period of time. It's really sad that such a new location that was so good has ended up this way. I really hope they can get back on track & succeed, it'd be a shame for a place with so much potential in such a great market to fail. I may try back in 6 months, but after today I think I'm done here. **UPDATE** I was writing this review as I was sitting in the parking lot waiting on my order. I drove up to the drive thru to place my order and was told they were not taking any order at that moment and it would be about fifteen minutes. I could wait in drive thru or come inside as they were changing shifts. I drove around and parked the car to go inside and the door was locked. I cannot believe that management would close the entire restaurant to "change shifts". You would think employee shifts would be staggered so as not to interrupt service. We waited 30 minutes in the drive through for this food and she didn't give us any honey for our biscuits after we asked twice. I can't believe this place has two stars on Yelp! If I could get this place negative stars I would. My first and only time visiting this restaurant resulted in what is probably the worst fast food experience I've ever had. I didn't expect much when I walked in the door. The drive-through is empty but I wanted to look over the menu. With only two people in line, I expected to go fairly quickly. That was my first mistake, well... Probably second... My first was coming here to begin with. It took 10 solid minutes just for the cashier to take the simple orders the two people in front of me had. I wish I had walked out then.... By the time I placed my order they were probably a dozen people behind me. This resulted in about 20 people standing around the counter area, when you count the other three people that had already ordered when I got there. After about 10 more minutes, someone finally got around to looking at my order in figuring out it was simple and they had everything already cooked (I think a lot of people are waiting on certain pieces of chicken that they had to cook). They finally filled my carry out order and I left. I got a couple miles down the road before I figured out they had left a side order of fries off my very simple order. After the experience I just had, I would not have went back in this place if my bag had been filled with trash. The worst part about it is that the food was halfway decent but I would never consider going back due to the completely inept staff. If you want to try their food you better do it soon. Smiles filled our faces as we walked Into the Louisiana kitchen. As we approached the cash register we were stuck waiting to order even though there was 1 car in the drive thru. The employee kept walking away while we were ordering. After taking 20 minutes to order our food we didn't get it out for 17 more minutes. after this long wait, we dove in, and boy was it bad. The first chicken tender tasted great but as we went to eat more the flavor got worse and our stomachs began churning. The bathroom was all we could think about. the mashed potatoes were nasty and the fries were cold. The only thing good about the experience was that it was so ridiculous that it made us laugh. I doubt I'll eat here again considering there are faster, friendlier, tastier options in town (Golden Chick, Zaxby's, Bojangles). If you want to pick up a quick meal this is not the place you want to go. I have been here on three separate occasions and each visit I have had I kid you not, a 30+ minute wait each time. In the drive through! On the last trip they gave me the wrong dipping sauce and when I asked for extra I was told it would be $1.10. By the way, they have 1 oz sauce packs. (You can get 2 oz sauce packs from Zaxby's for $.25. Two times the sauce for less than 1/4 the price, just to put it into perspective.) The food isn't worth the wait or the service, or the ridiculous sauce fee. I love Popeye's, and I've been to other locations in SC, the U.S., even overseas, and have not had the same poor experience that I've had at the one in Sumter. read more

I had to wait for almost 10 minutes just to have my takeout order taken a then another 25 plus minutes before I finally went up to the counter to ask about the status, only to be told that they didn't know about the order. The manager heard me fussing, I'm certain, and didn't even attempt to come over and find out what the problem was or offer an apologize. Not a big fan of fast food but the wife and kids love Popeye's so I went there a couple weeks ago to get them the family meal to go. First thing the lady says to me is that there's no chicken ready, it's cooking. I ask how long it will be, she says 7 minutes so I said fine. I ordered the family meal with double cajun fries and corn as my sides and proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. Not just me either, within 10 minutes there were at least a dozen other people waiting on their food. The whole time I can see my order sitting on the counter. After 20 minutes (literally, TWENTY freaking minutes), the manager looks at my order and asks what they are waiting on. One of the other girls says "we're waiting on corn". I'm watching this whole scene getting angrier and angrier but I'd already paid so had no choice but to wait. Never in my life have I waited this long for fast food. A few more minutes go by and they FINALLY get my corn and give me my order, almost 30 minutes after I ordered it. I was already plenty ticked off by the time I got my order and walked out so imagine how angry I was when I got home to discover that after ALL that...they forgot the 8 biscuits. I will never. Ever.
