Outside - only a few parking spots.

Emmanuel was our server. He sat us by the front door, making sure we had empty tables between us and other patrons. He also cleaned the table before we sat down. It was busy, and Emmanuel made sure everyone was taken care of. Masks were required, social distancing was enforced. Unfortunately the strawberry and pecan salads were not in season, so I thought I'd have the burger. But it only comes with fries. To get green beans instead would be an up charge. So I chose 4 honey fried chicken wings with two sides. Husband got the same. His two sides were corn and mac'n'cheese. Mine were green beans and yams. While we waited for our food, we looked around. Two flat screen TVs had the football game on (Pittsburgh vs Tennessee). The wall was decorated with lots of framed photos - too far to see who was in them. Today's special was on a chalkboard: download Jeffrey's new single and get $1 off your meal. Food came quickly! Mac'n'cheese tasted home made - delicious. Corn, green beans, and yams were good. The fried chicken was the best I've ever had. Husband agreed. We also ordered the coconut pie, which was very good. The bill was reasonable, the food was excellent, and service was first rate!!

I was apprehensive about eating dinner at a restaurant connected to a gas station, I'd actually passed this place up two times before. If you want TRUE southern cooking, TRUE Afro-American food, this is your place. I try greens at most places I go always looking for the correctly cooked ones but most people don't season them well, turns out all bitter.... Not here! The free appetizer is honey/cinnamon glazed cornbread! This is a first! I, being a northerner, always ask for unsweet tea, which they didn't have but the very polite host made some for me. I ordered the honey fried chicken with greens and rice and gravy. Rice seemed parboil so pass on that but the greens were sweet and salty like they should be and the chicken was so juicy, crispy, and sweet! The only down side is a subjective one on my part, the whole restaurant is VERY religious. Many menu items are religious puns and it's off putting to me but not enough to keep this hungry atheist away!

Faithful Fish - smells so good!

My husband and I visited this location while visiting family. My mother-in-law always rave about this spot and once we tasted some of her food we had to visit to get more for us. We called ahead and placed our order over the phone and it was ready for when we arrived. We had an order a the fish, collard greens, rice and gravy, and Mac and cheese. My favs were the Mac and cheese and collards. The fish smelled amazing and tasted okay. The collards were tender and sweet while the Mac and cheese was cheesy and oh-so-good! You MUST get you a cup of the punch, too, to wash everything down. I forgot the name of it, but it is really, really good!! When l return, I'm trying the cornbread!

Had the fried pork chops, green beams, and candy jams Chops were thin but tasty, cooked just right. Green beans were a bit salty to my taste, but you need that to combat the sweetness of the candy jams. Overall, I give it 6 out of 10.

Shrimp and grits. Soooo good! I'm not even a grits fan and could eat this every day.

Jeffrey knows how to make your stomach FULL! We had the shrimp and grits, fried chicken, greens, green beans, Mac&cheese and sweet potato pie. Oh! Let me not forget the cornbread that melts in your mouth as soon as it hits your lips. The sweet tea is nothing short of being SWEET!!! True southern sweet tea that will bring your blood sugar up. Highly recommend if you want true southern soul food.

My first week in Sumter! I wanted some good southern food. Connected to the gas station(my vice )... but Highly recommended, ehh why not. Glad I did! The food was so flavorful and indeed enjoyable to the the palate. I tried yams, greens, and fried chicken wings cooked well. The chicken was cooked to perfection! The young cook was a bit flustered with all the orders that came in at the last minute, I just took it as he put that energy in cooking my chicken to perfection! So Thanks! I'll return when I want some fried chicken.

I've been here multiple times and did not like it. This trip was no different. We had a large group of 16 and it started there. Was told a 2hr wait. If we split in to groups of 8 we'd be seated in 45. Took this option. Actually got seated in about 25 minutes seperately. (A table of 8 that was right next to us was vacant and NEVER got used for the entire 90 minutes or so that we stayed at the restaurant so why not accommodate our group? - strike one) Our waitress I'm told was very chippy with an attitude toward some party members. (I didnt get any attitude toward me) but heard a few people stating how she was answering people's requests and how unpleasant she was. - Strike two. The food. I ordered the meatloaf nachos (which were good). I also ordered the fried pork chops w/ side salad. Loading up on fake bacon bits (like 1000 pieces) doesnt make the salad better. This is a hint to their kitchen. The pork chops were dry and the "red skinned" mash potatoes" (which I do not remember the menu stating that they were red skinned potatoes which would mean SKIN would be present in the mash. Otherwise I would not have ordered this. ALSO, their baked beans.......this was the worst part of the meal. I am expecting some version of beans with a bbq base or similar...instead I got some sort of bean SOUP which was totally inedible in my opinion. Whole meal was trash. Strike three. My 83 year old father said at the end of the meal "worst meal I've ever had". Which I had him repeat to the table just in case anyone thought it was just me. $700 with tip for the quality is a bit much. I will never ever return no matter what my siblings say.

I finally stopped by a couple weeks ago & got my mother some brisket, she'd been wanting to try it…read more I don't think I've ever seen brisket sliced that thin, it was like deli sandwich ham. Taste was low mid. Yesterday, I decided to stop by after work & try their chicken wings. There was one car in front of to me & nobody inside. Only had to wait about 4 minutes & ordered 6 wings, fries, Mac & cheese, & 2 drinks for $27! I sat there for 38 minutes before I got my order! No apology, no excuse, just here's your order, have a nice day. The whole time I was there (Friday evening), I only saw 4 other customers in line or inside & there was at least 4 people working, so it's not like they were swamped with orders or shorthanded. That long & for that much money, it had better be a 5 star meal. I get home & see there's 2 sandwich style clamshell styrofoam containers & a single 4 ounce styrofoam ramekin. I opened the ramekin & the Mac & cheese did not look appealing at all. I tasted it & there was pretty much zero flavor. I can't tell you when I've had Mac that bland. I opened the side of fries & there might've been about 20 fries. The serving wasn't much more than a McDonald's small fry for comparison. I opened the wings & they were average size & looked pretty decent (by now I'd fully anticipated the little parakeet wings like Zaxby's). I tried them but was definitely not impressed. The sauce, Sweet & Hot, was mildly sweet but no spice or heat at all & it tasted like basic Kraft sauce off the grocery shelf. For the cost & time I could have spent another 10 minutes & driven to Florence & gotten better food & bigger servings for much less $$. I really hate that it was such a bad experience, especially after the previous less than stellar experience. I love small businesses & really had high hopes for something new for Sumter.
