Nice view of the river from here

3.75 The food was decent and the view is quite nice. What I liked: 1. Pasta with beef (not sure if it was short rib or braised beef?). Tasty and tender. It might be a little heavy if you eat only this, but if you are sampling different dishes, it was one of the better ones. 2. Pumpkin ravioli was good. 3. Calamari was good. 4. Pizza was decent. Not great, but not bad. What wasn't that great: 1. Mushroom lasagna: Lacks sauce and the pasta wasn't that soft. Lasagna is one of my favorite foods and this one felt dry and unsatisfying. 2. Meatballs are just ok.

Gnocchi di ricotta! Holy! So good. I was going back and forth between ordering that and the controfiletto con sugo alle chianti (sirloin) and I think I did not regret my decision. Ricotta gnocci, pumpkin puree, italian sausage and some nice slivers of cheese on top (probably a parmesan of some sort? I'm not good at naming cheeses, sorry) But yummmm! We kind of randomly chose Popolo and I was actually really happy with my meal. Highly recommend the gnocchi!

With stunning views of the river, a to-die-for menu and an enviable wine list, Popolo is certainly making waves as South Banks new kid on the block. This kitchen and bar does something a little different and presents it's Italian cuisine as share plates and tapas, and avoids being your cliche Italian restaurant by incorporating dishes a little more interesting and exciting than your average garlic bread and carbonara combo. I went along recently with a few friends, and Popolo treated us to a gorgeous night of relaxed dining and great food and drink. We opted to choose 6 or 7 different share plates (there were 6 of us) and shared everything. Worth a mention are the warm fried olives stuffed with anchovies, the pecorino board with muscatels and warm apricots, the pumpkin gnocchi and we also had the half serve of suckling pig which was absolutely to die for! On the muggy Brisbane evening we also indulged in a few bottles of Rose. The restaurant design and layout are fantastic, especially the blazing Popolo sign above the kitchen. One of the great things about Popolo is that (with the sound advice from our waiter) we ordered the perfect amount of food and left feeling satisfied rather than bloated and sleepy like many other Italian dining experiences I've had. The bill was extremely reasonable too considering we certainly didn't hold back on the food and drink. The only reason I hold out on the elusive fifth star is because the wait staff weren't yet well versed in all of the dishes and the wine list, but I guess this is to be expected from quite a young restaurant. I absolutely loved the Popolo experience, and will definitely be back again soon.

Went here for my friends 30th afternoon drinks and nipples. We sat outside, originally booked the lounge chairs but we couldn't get them straight away because someone made a mistake with the booking. However, they certainly made up for the mistake. The service was impeccable! The manager was really good at recommending good wines for us girls, when we felt like switching it up each time. The food was delicious and fresh. The ambience is great, as it overlooks the Brisbane city River and is surrounded my lush garden. The only thing I could suggest would be allowing the music to be a little louder in the outside drinks area, to create a bit more of a vibe (it was playing just quietly). Overall, great service, great food and drinks and a great view!

I was able to try the beautiful food at Popolo at a work function. We were on a set banquet menu, so everything was a delightful surprise. The carpaccio was so tender and tasty. I would return just to have a plate all to myself. The other stand-outs for me were the arancini and the pizza. By the time the mains came out, we were almost too full to enjoy the suckling pig. The tiger prawns also smelled amazing, but I didn't have room. I did manage to squeeze in a bite of dessert however. One has to balance the palate after a meal like that. We shared the chocolate donuts (which were also filled with yummy warm chocolate) rolled in orange sugar, with pistachio crumble, and sweet basil gelato. The donuts themselves were great. The orange sugar was very subtle and almost false advertising. The gelato was perplexing. It was so herby, nearly off-putting, but yet intriguing enough that we kept going back for more.

Before popping into the hotel I was hoping to get my carb overload done right and re-energize from the depleted energy tanks. After a quick search, I found this place and walked over to it and loved it more when I realized it had a low key atmosphere starting from the walk down into the main dining hall. This place is simple, fast, and straightforward with its menu offerings as they offers pastas, pizzas, etc along with a selection of beers/ciders while offering a hipster vibe After perusing, ordered the linguine with meatballs and the parpadelle with ragu. Ordered a few beers as well which were tasty. This place does get busy during lunch time with what seems to be office workers in the CBD and it brought the atmosphere to be lively. The pastas were out in a flash and they do not skimp on portions or protein here. I feel most places in the states only offers 3 meatballs but they went all out and doubled it and the parpadelle was no joke as well. The food here was solid and while the tomato base was a bit strong, the food itself was delish. The pasta was cooked well and basically both plates were completely gone by the end of the meal. This spot is solid and offers exactly what you are looking for in a low key atmosphere just serving up good quick eats.

The restaurant is not that hard to find just follow the signs from the streets entrance and it's easy. We all needed a hearty meal and what better that pizza and pasta . The meals were a good size and quick to come out. We started with a cheesy garlic bread and a bacon and chorizo pizza to start the ball rolling. They were both good. Next was some pasta. I got fettuccine with amatriciana sauce as I love a good tomato based sauce with a bit of salami and chilli in it to spirit up a little. The pasta was cooke lovely and the sauce was good and satisfied all my cravings. The others had pizza and carbonara. All washed down with a nice bottle of red and it was a very good hearty meal with loads of flavor.

Took us a while to figure out where we were and how to get there. Actually not hard at all. We arrived and it was very crowded. Luckily we got a seat in the corner by a window close to the action(the kitchen where the pizzas were cooked). A few slices of focaccia were served with olive oil prior to our pizza and its was wonderful. Then the main event arrived and it was beautiful. And it tasted equally as great. The sausage pizza with arugula. It was awesome. Might want to make a reservation for this great place. Its is very popular. Highly recommend the sausage pizza.

These days call for random eat-out weeknights, and since Jo was craving Italian, we decided on Pane e Vino. I've been here before and found it quite mediocre for what it's worth, but for the sake of time, we decided on this conveniently located restaurant. The ambience is quite casual, especially for a semi-pricy Italian restaurant. Might be because it's also a cafe-type restaurant? It didn't bother me, especially since they had celebrity designed plates on their wall - which honestly is a bit random. No complaints though, cause they have a plate designed by Billy Martin of Good Charlotte (as well as Geoffrey Rush and Cate Blanchett). =P I don't quite remember what I ordered last time, but this time around I got the Gnocchi Alla Boscaiola (23), which was a gnocchi with bacon, mushrooms, and shallots in a creamy tomato sauce. I wasn't too impressed with the sauce at first, but the more I had it, the more I actually liked it. They were generous about the bacon and mushrooms, which made up for the mediocre gnocchi...Not there was nothing wrong with the gnocchi, but it was a bit flour-y and not as chewy as I liked. I also had a taste of the Papparadelle Pesto e Pollo (25.5), which was a chicken pesto in a spinach cream sauce. It was decent, but I was satisfied with my choice. Though the pasta was just average for the price, the service was a 5/5 that night - attentive and friendly, just the way it should be! I would say (at least that night) it was one of the better places I've had in Brisbane, service-wise.

I like it best on a Friday night when the crowd has started to ebb and you can enjoy a piping hot pasta with friends. They offer a really great menu of Italian options. Other Italian restaurants I've been to in the past bely the name because they only serve generic pizza and pasta, but Pane e Vino is different. You've got your insalata, risotto, pasta, pollo, pesce, panini, and focaccia, and they've even thrown in some schnitzel for something totally different. So maybe it's not wholly Italian, but their choices are so fantastic and that's saying something coming from me, who can sometimes be precious about my meal choices depending on my mood. Finishing off your night with a coffee here is the best way to enjoy it. Meals are served quickly and are really delicious, and the coffee is strong and smooth; just how Italian coffee should be. There's also a really dynamic (and at times eccentric) team here to make your dining experience that much more memorable. It is perfectly located to stay within the city without being right in the heart of the mall. Tick/seal/everything of approval for Pane e Vino.
