First course, a big pile of a pasta called "bigolini" which I've not seen before. It is like thick spaghetti with a rough surface. That is needed because the sauce on it was quite thick and another interesting taste - nettles. Definitely different. Second course, risotto made with a red wine reduction. For our anti pasta course we went with the cured meat trio with polenta. The meats weren't particularly good and combined with the bland polenta it just wasn't a good combo. For our primi pasta course we had the bigoli in a horse (yes horse) bolognese sauce. Of our three dishes this was the best. For our main meat course with did horse cheeks braised in an Amarone wine sauce with polenta. I didn't like the polenta any better on our second dish and the cheek just didn't do it for me. I ended up leaving the bulk of the dish uneaten. All in all-maybe I just ordered poorly but I if I ever make it back to Verona this spot will be a pass for me.

The owners were fantastic and walked us through the menu and gave great recommendations. They also cater for the more health conscious with vegan pizzas. in fact, one thing we noticed whilst in Verona was that lots of restaurants catered for vegetarians and vegans and there were lots of choices, but this did not apply to me as I eat meat! The restaurant is different from other pizza takeaway shops as you choose various rectangular slices of pizza rather than buy just one large round pizza. The slices are very generous and four slices is more than enough as the pizza bases thick and fluffy and more of a focaccia base. Also, the price of your food is dependent on the weight of the food. For example if you buy a heavy slice of pizza with lots of ingredients cheeses truffles et cetera it weighs more than a standard margarita slice. The toppings were amazing and incredibly varied. in fact the toppings on offer were nothing like I had experienced in any pizzeria anywhere in the world. My particular favourite was the sausage with smoked cheese, margarita pizza with curried potato, and the salami pizza was amazing. My girlfriend had a pizza tasted just like bruschetta. Anybody visiting Verona must try to the risotto since Amarone is the big wine from the region--though it was quite rich, it was the best risotto I have ever had. We thought it opened at 5:00, and we got there about 5:50, super early for Italy. The door was open but no one was there except the chef, who turned out to be the owner. He said it didn't open until 7:00! But he took us anyway, and he was absolutely the most charming man EVER. So sweet, so accommodating, so kind. He told us the story of his restaurant and that he's the fourth generation to run a restaurant there. We ordered excellent wine by the glass, including amarone, the double fermented local speciality. Then we had pumpkin soup, and it was the most delicious we'd ever had, really special, with a depth of flavor that seemed unusual. After that, we had spinach ravioli, which were fat little homemade pillows, amazingly delicious, with a sauce of halved grape tomatoes lightly sautéed in olive oil. So fresh! Then we had rack of pork, which was presented as two thin chops beautifully browned, but very tender, and served with lightly sautéed mixed vegetables (those were good, but not great -- I can forgive that!). Finally, we had dessert. I got the deconstructed Napoleon another reviewer recommended. It was so cutely presented, and tasty. Husband got "mini-dessert" -- two small puff pastry "donuts." Believe it or not, we went back for breakfast because we really wanted something filling, and they serve more than the typical pastries. I had yogurt with muesli and fruit (so tart i had to add a pack of sugar!) and husband ordered ham and cheese omelet, which came with bread. Both were nicely done and hit the spot.
