I first heard about this coffee shop from a coworker. Their coffee is, quite literally, the best coffee I've ever had. I'd genuinely love to know which local roasters they source their beans from. What stands out most is how smooth the coffee is--there's absolutely no bitter aftertaste. Their honey brown sugar latte deserves special recognition. So many honey lattes either taste overly artificial or like the honey is barely there at all. Not this one. The flavors are perfectly balanced, and it's honestly one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. I could drink gallons of it. The quality is fantastic and I've found myself thinking about that latte long after I've finished it. My only complaint is that I don't live closer. If I did, I'd probably be there every day. read more

What a neat little coffee shop! We stopped in in need of some caffeine this morning and were not disappointed! We ordered an iced mocha latte and iced snickerdoodle latte. The snickerdoodle was perfectly spiced and still had some coffee flavor. The mocha was delicious, certainly an occasional treat as it is more of a coffee milkshake than a coffee. We also ordered the mini apple cider donuts which were okay, they seemed to be plain donuts tossed in cinnamon sugar and the dough had a funny aftertaste. I looked up local coffee shops in Ankeny, IA, during a weekend of sports for a quick fix last year (2023). Porchlight Coffeehouse came up and I wanted to visit something local. So, this was the pick. I'm glad it was! What a great little spot in a small old "Main Street" feel part of town. The interior was welcoming and on such a beautiful day, the outdoor patio was even better! It was fairly quiet with little noise and light traffic. I'm back again in 2024 and still love it just as much. The coffee is fantastic! For the price, I'd pick this over the chain staples any day. I asked the crew to make a "really good mocha drink" and they pulled it off, not that I doubted it. They were extremely friendly about it and speedy with service. I'm not a coffee or tea drinker, so coffeehouses aren't a favorite because of a certain blend or coffee vibe. It's about feel, how my partner enjoys the experience, and food items. The donut holes were tasty, but all I found on the menu to drink was water. Everyone around me was enjoying their time, and I noticed that they had some food items on the menu that I will explore on my next visit. I didn't see Soft Drinks. Loved their interior, as it was cozy and inviting, and their adjacent open space in back was terrific, with a zillion kids having fun on turf on a Saturday morning. Fire coffee shop! They have friendly baristas who are super helpful if you need menu suggestions, as well as the cutest interior that has some great character! Plenty of seating, easy to access bathrooms, and it's connected to a lil shop. The energy drink (a blue something or other, my dunce ordered it lol) was an 8/10, it had blue raspberry and white chocolate! I had a breve with caramel and whip cream, it was delightful, not very sweet, but then the delicious full flavored coffee was able to shine and tantalize my taste buds, needless to say it was a 9.5/10! Didn't capture any pics as it was hopping and hopping busy, and we didn't have time to stay and enjoy our drinks at the coffee house:) will definitely stop again when passing through the area! read more

In town for family Thanksgiving and hopped on Yelp to find a local coffeeshop. Porch Light came up so went to check it out. At the top of the seasonal latte list was an AE eggnog latte. I couldn't be happier as this is my favorite type of latte during the Christmas season. The staff was friendly and quick with the latte prep. Love when an espresso can stand on its own in an Americano and when going half flavor on the shaken espresso, the flavor of it didn't go away. What a great coffeehouse! They have every kind of coffee or tea you can imagine. It's adorable inside with little areas set up and divided by a two-sided fireplace. Exceptionally warm and inviting! When I walked in to order they have cute cards, magnets and coffee cups for sale - along with funny signs to setup in your home! During COVID19 review: Visited at 7:00am on a Saturday, shop was empty. All workers were welcoming and masked. Walking in feels unlike any other coffee shop, there's a hallway and a connecting door to a gift shop. Through a mini wall maze you get to the ordering counter. Many drinks to choose from. I ordered a seasonal: gingerbread latte with almond milk. And my friend ordered a regular mocha. Both came to $9.xx I appreciate the plant based milk options. And their syrups were as well. Drinks were ok. I was not impressed with my latte. Tasted watery and no gingerbread flavor. The espresso was not a bold bean/roast so it was bland. And did not taste smooth. Not sure if they roast in house or not. I would like to come back to retry. The drive is a stretch for me but for the coziness, service, and price....may be worth a second shot. If you're looking for a solid choice coffee spot I'd say this fits the bill. Quick service even on Saturday morning with the farmers market around the corner and a line, my drink was perfect! Great flavor options for both coffee and non coffee drinks. Lots of seating inside, no outside patio from what I could tell. I came in with my stroller, admittedly it's a bit large, so finding enough space to navigate and park was a little challenging. Stopped in on a whim. This coffee shoppe in just a few blocks from the Ankeny farmers market. Like normal I like to ask the person behind the register what the best thing on the menu is. They let me know that the house coffee was good and that the mochas were better. They each had their choice in what they really liked. I did really enjoy their in house brew. It was piping hot and enjoyed it nice and slow. My mom had the decaf and did enjoy hers as well. I think if I visit up that direction again I will sneak in and try some food and next visit. read more

TLDR: Tons of coffee choices, lots of sugar, subpar espresso, friendly staff, dry and foamy steamed milk. Porch light is the almost ideal Christian Coffee shop. Between worship songs the occasional Coldplay tune will take over but is hardly noticeable as the music lays low in the background. Really comfortable setting with a great temperature, a good amount of cozy seating (I'm never stuck without a spot), and an ambient lighting atmosphere create a great coffee house vibe for studying, reading, meetups, or dates. The coffee: holy smokes is there a lot. And most of it requires a sweet tooth to understand as they have countless mocha and latte flavors specific to your desires. Just ask the baristas and they're happy to guide you through some of their favorites! I ordered a 12oz Carmel breve this time around. Not too bad flavor, wish their syrup was more noticeable. The espresso in my drink was below average and tasted fairly heavy and bitter. It took a few sips to get through all the foam in the top. Not the best milk steaming I've seen but it's acceptable for a local shop, especially with a thick half and half drink. The staff: all of the staff every time I've been in have been extremely friendly and happy to help out with my order. I've noticed the same woman working every time I've been in over the past 2 years who I think owns the business. They're dedicated to having knowledgeable friendly baristas however might lack in coffee knowledge and technique. All around, solid coffee shop. Better than diem or Starbucks in ankeny for everything except a drive through, would recommend checking out this hidden gem in old town! read more

Absolutely the best coffee shop in Ankeny. Huge menu with lots of options, service is always friendly and prompt, and the seating is cosy and great for getting together with friends. Their dirty chai latte is absolutely delicious and I strongly recommend the scones. I'd go here every day if I could! The only thing that would make it better would be to offer a drive thru, but that's not an option in their current location. This coffee shop is so cute. I've now been here two times. Both times the cashier was very perky and willing to help me find a coffee drink I wanted (when I asked for suggestions). I got a breakfast sandwich both times I've visited. The sandwich was big and hot! They make them to order unlike Starbucks. My second visit here, I got a salted caramel machiatto (caramel machiattos are my go to drink). It was so good and a nice fall drink. They have about 8 seasonal drinks at any given time. Hands down THE BEST coffee shop in Ankeny! Not only is it adorable inside, the employees are friendly and their prices are fair! I love a good cup of black coffee and I love espresso... But I have to say they can make a killer chai! Having been a former barista of 7years, I can say they know what's up. I've tried a chai almond milk charger (both hot and iced) and it's probably the best drink I've ever had. They have a cute little fire place, large couch, comfy chairs, tables, and sometimes outdoor seating. Grab and go baked goods and bottled drinks (even children's pouches) are also available. They have a cute selection of cards as well. Thank you porch light for making Ankeny a little brighter. Can't wait to bring the husband in soon. Love to shop local, and this place is so warm and inviting with cozy seating areas, it really just draws you in. This gem is right in Uptown, and this will be a fantastic future to go during the farmer's market. I had the apricot peach green tea and it was perfectly done, they have a nice station with honey, sugar, sweeteners, to add to your desire. This made it great to make sure it wasn't too sweet! My husband had the Cola mocha espresso iced coffee. It was very different, kind of a bitter coke taste but it really grew on your, it was delicious! Really refreshing. They sell a variety of local bakery goods, including Sweet 2 Eat bake shop, chocolates, and something I want to try in the future wine cotton candy. Staff was super friendly and the place is spotless. We will be back when we can sit back and enjoy our drinks in house instead of taking them on the run. read more
