Love this coffee shop! I got a large iced campfire mocha (chocolate and toasted marshmallow). It's so yummy. They didn't put a ton of ice, which I appreciate. It's nice and sweet which I really appreciate too! I also got a cream cheese danish and holy stars this pastry is amazing. Even cold, it's delightful. I have to mention how lovely and sweet the whipped cream is. If you want a treat, get whipped cream on your drink and savor it. Someone has handmade knitted items for sale and they are CUTE! There were only 3 items left because it's Valentine's Day, but I can only imagine how cute other items are. read more

Usually I have a good experience but not this time. A man made my drinks set them on the counter. Looked at me and said nothing. Then turned his back to me when I went to pick them up. After I sat he repeatedly started yelling "Thank you" at me until a said it back. I tipped and I would have said thank you if anyone was at the counter when I walked up. I don't recommend coming here until he gets the help he needs. His coworkers did nothing btw. read more

Been here a few times to meet clients for work. Unsuspecting little hang out tucked in the corner of a strip mall. Staff is very friendly. Kinda a sweet beverage drinker's paradise. I've only tried the smoothies since I'm not a coffee girlie, but highly recommend. read more

I really like the coffee here. I usually prefer a plain black coffee which Starbucks does very well. However if I want something different, Friedrich's kicks Starbucks' butt on ALL iced or blended cold drinks, hands down. Adding any additional ingredients to coffee can quickly deteriorate into a chemically concoction that no longer tastes like coffee at all. However Friedrich's makes coffee cocktails that are perfectly balanced and still maintain the true flavor of the coffee base. Plus, I enjoy the atmosphere of Friedrich's. There's no corporate misery lingering between the walls. Granted I'm only in there briefly to get my drink and go, but it's a pleasant wait. I also never get tired of glancing at the cute caricatures of all the employees that they have on display. They're fun to look at every time. read more

A childhood memory, I used to go to this coffee shop with my grandma and we always got me a hot chocolate usually with their amazing pumpkin bread, I was like 4-5 at the time and was treated amazingly there, I had a throne basically! My throne looked down upon everyone around me, the ambiance always amazing and friendly whenever we went, we only stopped going after we moved and I still remember the day when someone accidentally sat in my throne and immediately apologized to little me and let me have my throne back with 0 questions asked, overall an amazing childhood experience and I will go back again one day to take a sip of my hot chocolate on my throne once again...`tis a soon memory I will experience once again... 100000/10 read more

Nice little spot. They have a large variety of loose-leaf tea in addition to coffee. There is a small seating area inside and a patio outside. Customers and employees were very friendly. We got "Epic" Ti Quan Yin Oolong and Ceylon Supreme English Breakfast. And a blueberry muffin. We'll definitely be return customers! read more

I absolutely love this place. Whenever I get a chance to pop in, I make sure to do so. It's in my favorite coffee rotation in Des Moines. There isn't a lot of seating, but if you are lucky to snag a spot, its perfect to catch up quick on some emails and update your day planner. My go-to sips are always a chai or a caramel latte! You can't go wrong. I will, however, ask if they've ever thought about......cleaning the ceiling? The last time I was in, I made the mistake of looking up, and I couldn't unsee it now. The nicest employee at an any coffee house ever works here. Carrie is awesome!! She is so knowledgeable about the drinks here, especially the teas. She super friendly. She was also happy to help me figure out how to order the drink I didnt know I wanted! I ended up with a Chai Rooibos with steamed milk and simple syrup. It was really good. This little coffee shop by 42nd street is one I've driven by thousands of times without a second look. It's close to other places I frequent, so I decided to stop in and check it out. The place is so cute. They have coffee beans laid into their tall tables and cute decor over the entire place. I got a white mocha and a rice krispy treat. The mocha was the perfect temp (drinkable immediately, no wait to cool down) which is rare for a coffee shop. If you like to have your mouth scalded, this may not be the place for you. The employees were friendly and quick. They have a parking lot that is shared with HyVee as well as several other small businesses, but it wasn't hard to park by any means. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

This coffee shop is really great when you're all by your lonesome, and want to read the paper or get a little paperwork done. The coffee is good, it's small, so it's not too noisy, and there are these few awesome table-height counter window seats. You can just gaze upon ol' 42nd street buzzing by outside, and listen to some neighborhood folks chatting with each other, behind you, somewhere. It's nice because you can focus, whether it's on a book, on just relaxing and daydreaming, or on harmless eavesdropping without awkward eye contact! Also, it's really laid back, here. My favorite coffee shop in DSM. The Sumatra whole beans is divine and I'm giddy when I pick up a fresh pound for the homestead. If you love the scent of coffee, Friedrich's sure does know how to roast them. The mini me loves their fruit smoothies since she gets the option of either ice cream or yogurt in her blend. Their java blended beats Starbuck's frappucino, hands down. They do offer a variety of teas as well, but their coffee is some of the best here in town. read more

Yelp is serving it's purpose well, when business owners like Gary take the feedback seriously. We were offered a gift card and ensured that the staff would be corrected. We politely declined, because we would rather try Friedrich's again when there is more of an opportunity to have a safe experience from food allergies, than receive any monetary gain from a negative experience. When in Iowa this is our coffee spot! They call themselves "As a small batch Artesian roaster, with award winning coffees." I would say its an accurate statement. I really love the cozy interior with the big windows and local art on the walls. They have decent prices and plenty of options to chose from. I would much rather come here and support local than go to a Starbucks. Thanks for taking such great care of me and my family every time we are in town. When I bit into what I can only assume was a 10 day old rice crispy bar I actually asked myself, "If I were eating this in a dark room, would I think that it was food?" The answer was a resounding no. This was after being mean mugged by a surly cashier who I can only imagine was angry that I had distracted her from the previous customer, aka the human man bun. The coffee tasted ok-ish (hence the 2 stars rather than 1) although infused with typical Iowan ennui. I would like to offer my heartfelt apology to the cashier for smiling and thanking her.
