I was only able to spend a day in Port A but just from driving around it's a cute small island feel. The beaches here are drive up so you can have your car on the beach, you do need to purchase a beach pass though (good for a year). We weren't able to get into the water this time because of a storm that came through the night before which caused a high fish smell from the kelp, plus the water wasn't as warm since it was early May. I'd definitely come back to visit though! read more

I have to say I don't envy thr people who clean these beaches! People are just nasty. We cleaned up the area ( mile marker 17) of the beach we were on. Cigarettes/beer can/soda bottle tops. We will be back for the clean up. read more

I love the Port Aransas beach an 18-mile-long public beach on Mustang Island, Texas. It has soft sand, warm waters, and a family-friendly atmosphere, offering activities like swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. Access to driving on the beach requires a $12 yearly parking permit, although some areas have free parking. We usually get around this by renting a golf cart. The beach also permits camping for up to three nights within a 21-day period and allows for small campfires. It is very well maintained and has several different areas for enjoyment. I like going to the Jetty and watching people fish, look for dolphins as the barges go by. I also like setting up a canopy and chairs and just relaxing on the beach and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico. It is also great for running as I have run up and down Mustang Island but it can get a bit windy. Lots of wildlife around to observe and last time there were also migrating monarch butterflies. One of my favorite beach spots in Texas to enjoy. read more

This is my third Texas beach. It's better than Galveston but not as awesome as South Padre. (The town and accommodations aren't as nice as South Padre in my opinion). Saying that, it isn't crowded at all but we came before prime season. The beach was being cleaned of seaweed for Memorial Day. We got a parking pass at a local grocery store which had cheaper beach gear than the touristy stores. Overall, I'd come again but I'd definitely rate other beaches over this one. (The white sand beaches of Florida beat any here in Texas.) read more

We've been traveling down to PA from Fort Worth for a few years now. We've never camped on the beach because we didn't want to deal with no showers, etc so we would get a hotel. However, this year we decided to put our roof top tent to use and tent camp! After watching the weather and tide charts (you HAVE to watch them if you're going to stay the night so your site doesn't float away at night LOL), we decided this weekend was perfect! And it truly was, last night was a wonderful, mild evening -with the exception of rowdy kids walking up and down the beach blaring their music at 2am- filled with sounds of the tide ebbing and flowing. You HAVE to get a beach parking permit, $12, which we scored from the Stripes gas station. It's good for the year. There are free parking miles markers between 52-58 (I believe there are other blocks too, just have to watch for the signs. But just get the pass in case those blocks are full. Which they mostly likely will be if you dont get there early). We don't fish so I don't have any pointers for that, but bring your kites and sunscreen! And food! It's a beautiful beach, pretty, clean (please throw your trash away!!!!!!There are bins for it) and very enjoyable. read more

Another gem for camping as I dodge winter weather. To get to the beach you take your vehicle on a free ferry ride to Aransas beach. The beach is a long stretch of sand and surf with plenty of space, port a potties, trash receptacles, surfer showers and semi regular patrols by local law enforcement. We watched parking write tickets to the Scrooges that thought they'd slip by. NOPE. But this place is so cool....You can drive down the highway basically straight to the beach, drive until you find a spot you like and pull in and claim it! No other permit needed! we have been coming to port Aransas at least twice a year for the past two years. It has always been relaxed and great to unwind. this time the happy place turned into an unhappy place. i think there are more cops and state troopers than there are tourists at this point looking for reasons to Jack with people and meet quotas. This will definitely be the last time I visit or spend my money here. There are too many other beaches where LE actually understand to serve and protect but let the tourists enjoy themselves without trying to ruin their lives. read more

This is definitely one of the most popular tourist spots in Texas and for good reason. However, there is one thing you need to be warned about upfront! You are allowed to park your vehicle on the beach but you must have a permit sticker otherwise you will be subjected to a $500 fine. You must purchase these stickers at local convenience stores that are located near the beach for $12. So make sure you get that sticker before you try to park on the beach. Expect it to be quite windy so make sure you bring all the necessary things to anchor down your umbrella or tent. Definitely a great place to fly a kite. This beach would get a 5 star review, but at this time of the year the wait for the ferry is so ridiculously long that I deducted a star (yes, I wrote a review of the PA ferry). Make sure to come over the bridge on the other side of the island that the ferry is on. read more

Beautiful body of water the gulf coast of Texas is. Port Aransas is next to cities such as rockport and Corpus Christi. You have to have a sticker on your car to get on the beach but they have plenty of port a potties and is one of the cleanest beaches in south Texas. I enjoy cooking out with family under the hot sun of just diving deep into the ocean. If you need to use jetty make sure to check their twitter for length of time and best time to go out. If you go before 10 am you should be good but after 11 it's more packed with people. We asked a person on the jetty how many people go on the jetty per day and he said 25,000 a day. read more

One of the best beaches in Corpus Christi...super white sandy beach and clean. Perfect to lay on for the whole day while enjoying the sea breeze. We drove up and down the beach by the pier there and discovered about quarter mile of beach posts covered with super cute knitted covers. Every one of them is different, unique, cute and funny. My whole family enjoyed our visit to the beach, it was clean the atmosphere was friendly, people spoke when walking by, allot of family's just hanging out having picnics building sand castles and digging for treasure (sea shells) beach sand usually makes me super itchy, I didn't experience that at this beach which was a personal plus. I would rate this higher if there were public restrooms and outdoor showers. I don't count port-o-potties as a 'restroom.' The beach was not crowded. You cannot park on the beach and set up next to your vehicle like you can at Whitecap beach. Dragging our gear took several trips. If you are a disabled veteran, you do not have to have a beach parking permit. Wish we had known before we purchased two permits. It was windy so we had decent waves to bodyboard and the beach was very, very clean. read more

We came down from Houston and have visited several times over the years. On this trip I felt like we would have had a better experience in Galveston. Beach had a lot of trash in the water and on the beach. Restaurants in the area are very limited and don't do takeout after 6 pm. Long wait times to eat anywhere. 7/2/2020 --Judge Canales closes the beaches to vehicular traffic unless you have ADA (handicap placard). This announcement came on after we drove over 3 hours and checked in our vacation rental. This announcement came way too late. It was so difficult to find a place to park the car and walk to the beach. If we walked from our rental, hauling the beach gear, kids, toys, coolers, this was also a life strong challenge. Port "A" has a new meaning for "A." read more

This is our favorite Gulf of Texas beach. It's clean and maintained. Roads are good, we are able to drive the entire thing in an RV. Water and dumping station is near mile marker 1. Park for 12 dollars a year so save your permit. (Can be bought at any convenience store and most of the time a cart is driving around selling them). Public bathrooms and showers if needed. Trash cans are kept clean and empty. Drive down to mile marker 35 for a more private experience. If it's off-season bring a rake for seaweed. Most are too lazy to clean a section so you'll have lots of space. Bring bait fish and the big birds will gladly come sit next to you. read more

This is the second time I have been to this beach. Hands down best Texas beach I have been to water, cleanliness wise. They seem to have good control of seaweed and trash; please have respect, don't litter. Most, if not all, Texas beaches are not "shelling" beaches. Rules: No glass bottles . Bbq ok, bonfire require permission. On beach parking, limited parking lot. They have "rinse off" showers and a fair share of port o potties. Not a fan of port o potties, but they seem to maintain them. Pro tip: always bring toilet paper , water sandals and bring sanitizer. First trip was 4th of July 2020, full blown COVID. We choose to be vaxxed and masked so we felt pretty secure outdoors. The crowd was generally peaceful but the usual confederate flag pride in full force FYI, ironic seeing it's 4th of July aka " USA birthday". You may encounter people who spread out without ANY respect of others around them. We had a real turd stationed near us. Claimed an outrageous amount of beachfront and was a real junkyard dog if you stepped in his Territory, all the way to the shoreline. Huge tour bus sized RV parked on beach. To those new to Texas beaches, most allow you to park on the actual beach, no real restrictions. This is a shocker for those who do not live in the 'republic" of Texas hahaha. Anyways, in spite of crowd, nice beach. Second time (oct 2021, Halloween) BEAUTIFUL and private. We came late 8:30pm and "camped out" right on the beach. Must have $12 annual parking pass or face $500 fine. Pass available at most HEB in corpus Christi and select stripes convenience store along the way to Aransas. Highly recommend going off season while Texas weather is still relatively warm. Happy "beaching". read more

This is probably the best beach that I have ever been to in Texas. The water is clearer than other ones I had visited. Plus the beach is cleaner than most. I also love that we can pitch our own tent, canopy, etc. here. My friends and our family spent half a day here and we probably would love to visit here again. There are restaurants located not too far from here. Even better, Corpus Christi is about 15-20 mins away when you feel like you have enough of beach life. read more

A clean, soft-sanded beach! Port Aransas has some beautiful beaches. This beach is right outside of a state park, and right down from a National Seashore. This means that the beaches here are clean, free of debris. They are maintained regularly with a big bulldozer coming and grading the path. You can drive down this beach- and don't really need 4 wheel drive, since the sand is compacted on the driving area. I got to see lots of wildlife here- including many birds, some crabs, fish and a few shells. It's really beautiful out here. There are showers in front of some of the condos or buildings along the beach, and you can access the beach at certain areas off the main drag of Port A. Please be sure to keep the beach free of litter, and keep Texas beautiful! read more

6th Street (Austin TX) meets Key West Port A is my top destination for a vacation . Beaches are clean of trash. You can have a bonfire, drive on the beach, it's dog friendly, many people fish from the beach & surf. There's a fishing pier & jetty. Some areas are difficult for non 4x4 vehicles, but there's plenty of beach if you have a car. Outdoor showers & portable bathrooms placed at beach entrances. Some areas require a beach permit $12/year - there is a stretch of beach that doesn't need a permit. I love this place! read more

Port A has miles and miles of beaches! You can drive down and find a secluded spot or you can hang out closer to more people. The beaches are pretty clean (esp. by Texas/Galveston standards). Tons of people fishing. You can drive your car/truck/golf cart along the beach, so people bring tents, tons of chairs, etc. Your day at a Port A beach can be whatever you want it to be! The beach, the locals, the shops....I fell in love at first sight and make the 4 hour drive several times a year. This is a community of people who love their town and beach, be respectful, support local businesses, and have an awesome time!!! Remember, most have or are just now rebuilding from the devastation of H Harvey....but they stood together, rebuilt, and are ready for us to show them some love again. You won't go wrong with a trip to Port Aransas so don't second guess yourself when making plans and get out there and really enjoy! That's what they're about. Fun. Great place and warm waters. Really the highlight to our RVing adventure. We rented a buggy and took it down the beach. The experience was excellent for folks who aren't used to that sort of thing. I am extremely impressed with this beech and the partitions they have set up to keep drivers on the beach separated from those enjoying their time. Other locations have been less than ideal for a family day at the beach, this place was the exception. Overall we are happy we came to Port Asransas and we will defiantly be back. read more

Camped here for my birthday last June and couldn't have asked for a better place to be. We arrived on Sunday and left on Wednesday, camping Monday and Tuesday night. The beach was pretty populated during the day but tapered off at night. Aside from the last night, there was no one camping around us. It was very peaceful and we even witnessed a lightning storm off the coast which was incredible to watch. HUGE DRAW: We rented surfboards and attempted to catch some waves one day but to no avail as the conditions were not ideal. Instead we did witness around 10-12 dolphins catching waves and playing in the water right next to us! It was a huge highlight of the trip. There are showers to rinse off the salt water at the road entrances leading to the beach. Port a pottys are consistent throughout the beach and were in good condition from what I saw. IN NEED OF IMPROVEMENT: People leave their trash all over the beach. I was surprised as to how much trash there was as there are trash cans lining the driving path so it's easy to discard your undesirables. Beware of the jellyfish as they were everywhere but at least very easy to spot. Overall I would highly recommend vacationing at this beach, especially during the week when less people are present! read more

This is A dog friendly beach so if you are afraid of dogs this isn't the place for you, it was a clean trashless beach. We all had a nice time including my little dog. My only issue is the parking permit. It cost $12 to park, but you can use it all year. Well we only there 1-2 hours, this was my first visit and I don't know how much I'll come down here, and it's October. If it's for the entire year, shouldn't you subtract $1 for each month that has passed. To me that's just common sense, so visitors that came in October that aren't coming back should have paid $3. Another idea is just have a parking permit for visitors that aren't going to visit through the year. Beware the parking permit is a sticker for your windshield so you may have to visit a mechanic to scrape it off. read more
