Review on dinner at 10PM on a Sunday night.
(Wings, Shrimp, PB & J Burger, Poutine: Skip to bottom for cliff notes)
My friend and I came here after spending 20 minutes calling around to find a place that had a kitchen open after 10PM. Thankfully Rocky's kitchen is open until Midnight on Sunday.
We walked in and sat ourselves and the place only had 3 other groups there and one waitress. Let me start off by saying the service was awesome and our waitress (wish I could remember her name but it was Sunday 3/12/17 night shift) was super helpful and attentive.
I would have given this place 3 stars but the waitress/service is what made me give it 4 stars.
Upon sitting down in a booth, the hockey game was on a tv that was about 6 inches from our faces. It was a little aggressive but I just turned my body to avoid the glare. I wish there were some booths without the TV and I'm sure we could have turned it off but we did not bother to ask. One thing I did notice were the fruit flies (only a few) and that was kind of gross but it did not stop us from eating there and we just batted them away.
Our waitress told us it was .49 cent wing and shrimp night with the order of a drink. My friend ordered a beer and got 12 of the hot and honey wings. I asked about the shrimp and she said they were deep fried. I assumed they came like the wing did and were deep fried whole shrimp covered in sauce but they were not. They were butterfly shrimp that came with cocktail sauce. That was a little disappointing since I was expecting something else, but my friend ate them none the less.
Do yourself a favor and get the Hot & Honey wings. Holy they were amazing and I was having food envy with my friends dish. I very rarely eat meat but those wings were delicious and I would gladly order 12 for myself next time. They start off sweet and sticky and then the heat really kicks in at the end, especially after you have had a few. The wings (we got bone in) are perfectly fried and have that nice crispy skin and then drenched in the delicious sauce.
For my meal I got the Peanut Butter and Jelly Burger. I was skeptical at first but I figured hey, go big or go home. Also our waitress said she never eats red meat but she really likes that burger. The burger comes on a standard bun with bacon, cheddar, smooth PB, and red pepper jelly (I thought it tasted like raspberry though). IT. WAS. AMAZING.
All of the flavors pair so well together and the smooth PB really ties in the bacon/cheese and jelly. It was so good that I would attempt to recreate it at home. Our waitress came by to ask how it was and it was already gone. Both my friend and I were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The only thing was that you could tell it was a standard lackluster frozen patty... If they upped their game and used local beef patties and bacon, that burger would have been out of this world.
To go with the burger we got the poutine. Crinkle cut fries, beef gravy (meh), and lots of cheese curds. It was ok, not the best, and I am not a fan of beef gravy. My friend ate most of it and he liked it, but he will eat anything. I thought it lacked flavor and just tasted too much like thin stock gravy with melted cheese.
Overall:
Our waitress was the bomb at 10 pm on a Sunday Night - that's why this gets 4 stars instead of 3
Hot & Honey wing are amazing
Don't waste your money on the .49 cent shrimp
PB & J Burger is a MUST get
Poutine was not bad, not good, just meh
Atmosphere was chill, laid back, and casual
Price was as expected for a sports bar but the .49 cent wings/shrimp were a bonus
Beer was a little pricey (a sign said $5 for a Bud Light during happy hour!)
